For the next month or so, this blog will not be publishing anonymous comments. Everyone must identify themselves (although you can use a pseudonym). This may make it more difficult for those who like to pretend to argue both sides of an issue and easier for those who want to respond to someone else's comment or question. At the end of June the blog administrators will evaluate whether to continue the new policy or go back to allowing anonymous comments.

If Mary Lou is renting then she is paying taxes in her rent since the landlord has to pay taxes on his property.
How much do you think the Stonegate people should pay? You pay what your house is assesd at always has been. When you live in a gated community and even if you are retired what makes you think you get a break? They can do what the board president did and take all the exceptions for the taxes.

"City officials pointed out that most of the reasons for the exponential jump in taxes in the subdivision were beyond the control of city government. They include the general recession and bursting of the real estate bubble that affected the entire country, the recently approved referendum that increased the East Aurora School District education tax levy, and housing problems peculiar to the city of Aurora as a whole."
What "recently approved referendum"? I vote in every election, and the last time I saw a referendum on the ballot was in 2008--almost 5 years ago. One reason it passed back then was all the public housing residents who showed up to vote in the presidential election, and while they were there they voted to help themselves to taxpayers' money THEY wouldn't have to pay.
About the district not getting the grant we were counting on: this has to be especially painful for those administrators (some of whom were excellent) who lost their positions or were "reassigned" in order to jump through the hoops required by the grant.
And the blog can say "I told you so", when this was the only place that brought out the REAL reason for the shake-up several weeks ago.

No, you're mistaken. Stonegate West (the only Stonegate I could find listed in this area, although there is also a Stonegate subdivision in Joliet) is definitely in District 131:

Oh great, it looks like our new director of secondary education (Michele Brown) was part of that whole Minooka crowd that came to Aurora with Dr. Radakovich and his ex-wife Kathryn Birkett. Was there anybody good that came from that group?
I'm also waiting for the lawsuit from somebody else who applied for the position, since our board president publicly announced that there was no real interview process, they knew who they were hiring before the process began. Annette's mouth really is a liability for the tax payers of this district.

What the..., just because Michele Brown used to work in Minooka does not necessarily mean she is friends with (or worked with) "Serial Bully" Radakovich. Radakovich left Minooka in 2001.
And Kathryn Birkett was NEVER part of the "Minooka crowd". The only connection she had was being married to the serial bully for awhile. Here's an article from the Chicago Tribune in 1996:

Kathryn Birkett, 39, has been named principal of Neuqua Valley High School, a $55 million school being built in Naperville. It will open in August 1997 to freshmen and sophomores.
Birkett, a 17-year veteran of District 204, has been principal of Steck School in Aurora since it opened in 1991. She taught physical education and coached girls volleyball and track at Waubonsie Valley High School in Aurora from 1979 to 1987, was Waubonsie Valley assistant principal from 1987 to 1991, then opened Steck School as principal.
As an assistant principal at Waubonsie Valley, Birkett hired and evaluated teachers, developed a staff mentoring program, handled student discipline and began student and staff recognition programs.

Kathryn Birkett has been an excellent administrator in D204 (I've lived in D204 for 15 years and my kids went to D204 schools). As far as her choice of husband was concerned, I've known many women who are great at their career but make poor decisions in their love life.

The only one who should be removed from the the Board is Strand. her husband works for the district and is working behind everyone's back to help feather her own families nest.
Actually, I think Kirsten Strand would make a good Board President.
The fact that she has kids in D131 schools and a spouse who works here means she has a vested interest in our district's success. It's one reason I voted for her.
Strand has her own agenda.

Ummm, I pretty sure every politician (or person who runs for office) has their own agenda. That is why they are running. You have to decide, as a voter, if their agenda works for you.
Strand's agenda is to improve the lives and opportunities of the students in D131.
