Good call 131 for keeping our schools open. You have saved our families thousands of dollars and jobs. Some families must work, they can't take off for a little snow. We live week to week and must work. Affluent districts don't have our problems , so please hold your judgment. THANK YOU DR ROBERTS
10:51 don't need to read between the lines. It's very clear: "we're not going to criticize 131 for making that decision, because there's going to be times when we make decisions that others don't agree with and we'd be pissed if 131 or others criticized us".
You know, maybe East IS different than the other districts. We've got balls and don't let a little snow keep us from getting the job done. I work in a very affluent district (more affluent than Naperville, Geneva, or any of the others around here). We were also off school today. And a larger percentage of our students were out on the roads, going to the mall, friends house, Chipotle, etc. Are they safer there than they would have been in school? Of course not.
The streets where bad and by the High School they where slick. There are many parents that don't work in this district you can tell by how many take the kids to school. We have more than three inches and the roads are slick in Aurora. By the way you talk about parents that work and they would have to miss it if they closed the schools what do they do in the summer when there is no school?
You know what, I bet that about half of the people in the district thought not closing was a good idea and about half of the people in the district though not closing was a bad idea.
You know what else, I bet that whatever decisions are made, not everybody is going to like them.
I think (I'm not sure) that it is a difficult thing to please everybody, and when you try to, you end up disappointing everybody.

Aurora University students are on spring break this week.
Many parents would have had to miss work today thank you for keeping the schools open and thank you to the City for keeping the streets clear.
