  1. Anybody know who's running for School Board?

  2. Nobody basically, the same members and two new ones., We are screwed if that's the best the community gave us, Working with Jackie Montroy I know her style she wears the pants in the house. She is pro administration and that saved her when the child she mentors got involved with a fellow teacher. Jackie as a social worker did nothing, the student moved in with the teacher and administration did nothing. Today the teacher and student have a child together. Jackie never reported it to DCFS and she still works here. There are a group of small minded teachers only a few at East that stop the rest of the staff from moving ahead. They never except new ideas and complain all day how busy they are instead of working.

Jackie wanted to run for union president but knew she could even get elected at Eas, let alone the entire district. . So her brand of control was to run her lap dog Zack . Someone needs to look into why she is allowed to take students to her house. That is a clear violation of board policy but being she is Shelia friend she gets by with it..

  3. Just because a building has a certain name does not mean that the district has to call one of their schools that name. How dumb that the new magnet academy will be named after someone who had absolutely nothing to do with it or the academics it represents.

  4. I am not sure of the other candidates, I know the current members are running. I was also disappointed to not see more candidates turn out. the two that should not run are Kristan Strand and Zack Montry. They both have a vested financial interest in the district because their husband and wife receive a paycheck from district 131. How can you make decisions about leadership or money knowing that benefits yourself. How can their husband or wife be properly reviewed when the build leaders know their spouses are on the board.

Kristan operates and is paid a salary by Community 4-12 she openly recruits members into her church and is allowed to run her programs out of district building. She is a business partner receiving district funds to run some of her programs. She has also gotten many teachers to join her Community Church and now Zack Montry is up to the same thing. He is running Ginger Creek out of O Donnell. Again working to feather his nest. In fact he has found so many members from our schools he recently received a promotion.

If both have the integrity they claim then they should not openly recruit members in the schools and there spouses need to seek employment in another district.

Church and State need to be kept separate and they have truly crossed the line. They have taken many members away from Esat Side churches because of her influence with certain administrators. She also brought a program into the Schools called Kids Hope. This program mentors children and to join you must pay $2500 per your church to join and come into our schools to work with students. Why? We are a community in a public school, why do we not open our doors to everybody. The district also pays for finger prints and supports her organization.
What is happening with the East Aurora schools is very dangerous. It's time to worry about education and not the promotion of ones own cause for personal gain. Why is it we are unable to find community members who live here and have no vested interest. I am sadden for the many hard working teachers they deserve better. The State needs to come in it is out of control

  5. Already reading that ones running for school board are being downgraded. Will not hold credance to what in being stated on this blog as I do not know who is making these allegations. If the statements are true, then please lead a way to find out.

  6. I do know Kristen and Zack have a husband that works at Bardwell and children that go to the Magnet School. I know Zacks wife works at East Aurora High. I also know other members who have done this too.

It makes you wonder why ? I could never support this. It makes you look tainted. However I know Leonard put his best friend in to lead the Maintance Department The story continues I was hoping Kristen would have recruited others and not herself it just makes her look self serving. I have had my doubts about her and it confirms it her message of work with the poor oesnt add up when her kids goto Magnet.

  7. Montrose and Strand have ethical issues they should not be running with their husband and wife working for the district. Only on the east side

    ReplyDelete
  8. Here's a link to Kristin Strand and Zack Montroy's website/blog:

    http://strandandmontroy.com

Evidently they're running as a team. Both have solid D131 connections and seem to be involved in our district.

  9. Excuse me, I meant Kirsten not Kristin.

  10. I'm especially impressed with the fact that the Strands used to live in Naperville but moved to our district in 2007. Their two sons go to our schools, so the family definitely has "skin in the game".

    ReplyDelete
  11. I just read the website and am very disappointed they have no platform. No plan to address scores they just say turn it over to administration. They also do not tell us what they are looking for in a Superintenent. They need to give us more facts. Strand also talks about the standardized tests what would her plan be last I checked that is required by the State. I too feel it will be difficult fr them to make a decision based on a spouse working fr the district. I am not sure why you think they have ties to the community living here since 08 from out of State hardly makes you a long time community member. Who else is running I am hoping there are other choices.

    ReplyDelete
  12. When you can't get anyone to run in this district but people that work here there is nothing wrong with that and it isn't unethical. Most of the current board members have done unethical things while on the board and also they allowed criminal use of credit cards so I really don't see anything wrong with them running.

    ReplyDelete
  13. I believe the 2 candidates mentioned can do a fine job, even with spouses working in the district. They may not have lived in this area very long, but they have done more to help the community ifew years than many who were born in EA.
These are 2 people who are not just talking, they have walked the walk and I hope to see them get elected and bring some positive light to our school board.

Thank you for posting their webpage. It is very well laid out and gives much information in many areas. I think these people are excellent candidates!

  14. Anybody who is running for school board can't be any worse then what we have right now since it basically is ran by one person.I just know that d131 use to be a great place to work but now there is so much corruption in the Adm. Dept. starting with Jerome Roberts,(goose neck)Joan G.,Lisa and her wanna be women Wilson who got to keep his job cause he cried like a girl that he is!

    ReplyDelete
  15. Best thing to do to make things better for D131 is to clean out all Adm. at SSC along with Board Members there is so much corruption going on I wish the State would come in and get them all out!!! Jerome R. hanging in two more years is a bunch of B.S. such a coward & Joan G. thinks she is so dam perfect she makes no mistakes yeah RIGHT! Your time will come when you will slip up again!! What a joke you all are!

    ReplyDelete
  16. You stupid people don't have a clue.

    ReplyDelete
  17. When someone asks me who I am voting for-I tell them who I WILL not vote for!

    ReplyDelete
  18. The Strands used their influence to put their kids in the Magnet not exactly a real East Aurora School. Also I read her thoughts on education if her husband is so overwhelmed time to move back to Naperville. I also feel bad for the Principal that has to manage their spouse if elected they will put them in a bad spot. She is unethical she is paid to recruit members from our schools to her ministry. She will end up getting the district in a lawsuit with the ACLU. Church and State don't mix she is about to put the schools back into the spotlight and it will not be for Acedemics.

    ReplyDelete
  19. Here's a link to Kirsten Strand's blog:

    http://community412.typepad.com

Both Kirsten and her husband Scott are real assets to our community! They are dedicated to making a positive difference in the lives of our kids. Kirsten will be a grEAt D131 School Board member!

    ReplyDelete
  20. Zack Montroy also seems to be a positive influence in our district. However, one thing worries me: his wife is good friends with Marin Gonzalez. I'm concerned that they may try to bring Marin back to the district, maybe even as the next superintendent.

If that sounds farfetched, remember that Jerome Roberts had also left D131 and came back a few years later as superintendent.

    ReplyDelete
  21. Marin Gonzalez as superintendent?

    UGH!

    No way!

    ReplyDelete
  22. The story buzzing around at Bardwell and other buildings will be Dr Aird as superintendent. No way, she is embarrassment to the districtt. It is my understanding that both the Strands and Montroys got up to speak and defend her at a recent meeting. That showed poor decision making. It also started a buzz at Bardwell. Scott is one of poor performing teachers, less than 5 of his students in his classroom meets AYP. He has received poor reviews and is a part of a group of problematic teachers that have taught the same way for years and do not want to change. They complain about AYP standards but unfortunitaly that is the guild lines we teach by. It is up to us as classroom leaders to make it work. Many of us do support Anna Groh, we are just not the vocal majority.
Scott wanted to run the computer lab last year but lacked the computer skills necessary. He has been paid the web master stipend for two years now and never updates Bardwells site. Please refer to the district website for that fact. Many of our students received awards, won district wide competitions and no acknowledgement. That the real Scott. His wife does promote her Community 412 in school and at least 75 families have joined. Scott is now been promised by central office a teaching position at the Magnet Acedemy. Again favoritism.
His wife is the last person I would want representing the board. In fact many of us know Montroy and Strand are running to distrupt long needed changes.
As far as the current board they are viewed by many of us as cleaning up the corruption. They could have quietly covered up the credit cards and insurance. The board needs to look into this wide spread favoritism and stop promoting one persons religion over another. It does not have a place in our schools.

Unfortunitiatly many of us can't not vote in the district but a straw poll election would show strong support for the current leadership.

  23. Reading this blog for the last two years I have seen a lot of people get their reputations run through the mud for no reason. That is why many people do not run for this board. The current board members are not corrupt it seems they cleaned up not coruption but sloppiness. Stand and Montry are nice well indenditioned people but because of the business partners relationships and their husband and wife working for the district they have opened themselves to a lot of critical comments. Actullually I am uncomfortable with that. They will not be able to make the hard choices these are there colleges. But we did not get anyone else because of the blog.

    Very sad for our district

    ReplyDelete
  24. Doesn't Clayton get to promote his group at the school level and didn't he a few years back get to kick a teacher out of her classroom to talk to kids on school time without parents permission that is unethical and the board allowed it. He also uses his beliefs on the kids in his group.

It is time a younger group get on the board that is willing to accept change.

I read Kristen blog and I didn't see anything where she was going to use being a board member to recruit anyone in fact the thought of bringing community and church together is good for the students. Just because Marin and her are friends doesn't mean that they will bring her back.

    ReplyDelete
  25. Kristen is not friends with Marin Gonzalez, Jacki Montroy is.

Kristen Strand has a BIG heart, and is "walking the walk" in making our community a better place. As far as her husband is concerned, I know a few Bardwell parents and they think he's doing a wonderful job.

4:55 a.m., you say the Bardwell website hasn't been updated. Look at the East High site--it still doesn't have Lisa Gawlik listed as choir director. The Simmons site is out-of-date, too--and probably other schools, I didn't check.

    ReplyDelete
  26. Dr. Aird as superintendent? Hmmm...I think she'd be a good pick. She knows our district & our kids, and doesn't have a reputation as a bully.

    ReplyDelete
  27. 11:38 am please provide documentation on how the district "pays" Mrs. Strand anything to run Community 4:12? Please also provide documentation that church members have to pay $2500 to mentor a child? As far as I am aware, Community 4:12 is a charitable organization, not a money making one.
The Community 4:12 christmas gift program gave money back to the schools from its program as far as I know. Lets check with the schools involved and see how much funding they received from this organization. and others. Please provide us with some facts that Mrs. Strand benefits with any money to run her program and where it comes from. Otherwise we must assume that these statements are untrue. Both Zach and Kirsten, as far as I know are educated people who are interested in bettering our school district. And current board members already have family members in the school system, so I don't think that is against the rules. I think you should be careful with generalized criticism of people you know nothing about.

  28. The schools in Aurora keep property values down and good businesses who would offset the tax base out of Aurora. When is the Mayor going to demand that the schools get better. He has been an total failure as mayor in this regard. Where is the major investments in Aurora other than by sticking it to taxpayers to fund development (police station, Library, etc.)

    ReplyDelete
  29. I'm no big fan of Mayor Weisner, but if you're going to hold him accountable for problems with our schools then be fair & give him partial CREDIT for the fact that Aurora got through 2012 without one single homicide.

    ReplyDelete
    Replies
    1. APD got it done, not Weisner. Weisner has been trying to cut the police for years. Get your facts straight. Chris Lauzen or Linda Chapa Lavia needs to be Mayor.

      Delete
  30. That is great and I never said he should not get partial credit for that, but the fact of the matter is Aurora's home values are in the tank, its east and west side schools are horrible. Until the East side is cleaned up the City will always be second rate no matter how many rivers edge parks it builds. The other thing we should all hold the mayor accountable for is the high tax rate. Why is it so expensive to live in Aurora when its schools suck?

    ReplyDelete
  31. No no, that is not the nature of this blog. If something positive happens, the people who they like get credit. If something bad happens, the people who they hate get credit 100% of the time.

    ReplyDelete
  32. Wrong.

There is plenty of positive AND negative, blame AND credit discussed on this blog.

    ReplyDelete
  33. Kristen and Zack are receiving backing from some administrators who need to be replaced one is Dr Aird. Case in point they spoke for her to keep her job at the transgender meeting. Why would her husband do that. We all know Scott is a bad teacher. Recently a good teacher was railroaded by Anna Groh and placed on leave. Scott is a horrible teacher and his classes have the greatest failure rate. No documentation just railroaded we are aware of the dangerous games Dr Aird is playing. Teachers are being bullied and told the Board is out to fire them. Things are crazy. When it seems like it is Dr Aird if you did not sign her petition that Daisy Hernandez and Scott circulated.

Bardwell teachers know you Scott. Move back to Naperville but you lack the skills to teach anywhere else and you have to kiss up to Anna and Christy.

  34. Well if you learned how to read - I said that the same group of people always get the positive and a different group of people always get the negative.

    ReplyDelete
  35. I find it funny that the two "Christians" running have the initials S&M.

  36. "If something positive happens, the people who they like get credit. If something bad happens, the people who they hate get credit 100% of the time."

Who are THEY? Who is on the like and hate lists? Just wondering if I am listed.

  37. Dear jan 2, 2:43 p.m -- Many of the schools in Iliunois suck. This is because of a Bush administration holdover- NCLB- where the kids had to score 85-100% when yon you had kids with first and second grade reading levels. There was never any possibility of the schools, especially in poorer neighborhoods meeting or exceeding the unrealistic goals mandated. The richer schools, those not so dependent on state $ were able to opt out of No Child Left Behind. This is just the first step towards republican attempts to privatize schools, and we all know how successful magnet and charter schools are. The other agendas are union busting, and a total dismantling of the middle class, which they have nearly accomplished. Our own Linda Chapa La Via is helping her fellow conservatives(her ticket to stardom) to serve up her alama mata to these changes. So when you talk about poorly rated schools, they are poorly rated for a reason: an ass-backward political agenda that put children last.

  38. 6:09 p.m., we all have our own like & hate lists.

  39. 6:51 I guess that is why Aurora is at 700 out of 709 in academics in the State of Illinois. Lets face it East Aurora needs to be broken up.

    ReplyDelete
  40. There are plenty of questionable hires in the district in Administration. Just google a few of their names. Start with Anna Groh- ENJOY!

    ReplyDelete
  41. I don't think Montrose and Stand thought this out well they do present a big conflict of interest. Confidentialty for one, how can you not discuss the school with your husband or wife. The problem is in both cases they work for the district. Money and benefits I am sure with both working for non profits they are on the district plans. They would decide about themselves. Working conditions Jackie Zacks wife already has problems galore at East . How is going to be objective. Hiring a new Superintent or any other administrator chances are they will be the boss over their husband or wife. Lets not even get into the entire business relationship their non fir profits have with the district. With draw for he ballot and do the honorable thing. It seems anything they do will always have issues with it. In reality we will only have five board members if they are elected. I can't believe nobody stepped up.

    ReplyDelete
  42. Things are going to get interesting for Aurora, the state of Illinois and for the US. Badly run schools with low test scores, a city, state and country that is broke. When the economic collapse happens, I wonder what will happen?

    ReplyDelete
  43. Who are the others running?

Our current board has their own pets they hired or kept on that are not very good employees and that is their #1 employee the superintendent. They have broken their own policies. So trying someone new can't hurt.

    ReplyDelete
  44. Jan. 2nd 7:40am-Do you really think all eligible candidates for the school board didn't run because of the blog. What a small world you live in. No one runs, because most people are not paying attention untill it affects their child personally.
I would venture to guess if you went to any school in EA and asked parents to name 3 of the 7 Board members, they could not. Most probably do not even know the superintendents name.
You can point your finger at a blog to blame, but people do not care.

    ReplyDelete
  47. That's because the blog administrator only posts what she likes.

    ReplyDelete
  48. Well, I plan to vote for both Zack and Kristen for School Board--and it's partly thanks to this blog (which is where I saw the link to their website).

The fact that they both have spouses who work for D131 could be a positive thing, because it means that they are more connected and involved in the district than someone who just lives here & pays taxes.

  50. The Strand, Motrise, Peyrea group are backed by district administrators who want to keep everything status quo. They encouraged a young innocent teacher at Hermes to petition in the schools for Peyrea because she was to lazy get signatures and time was running out. This was done with emails telling people to come into the lobby. Other teachers who know you can't use district computers for elections complained. The teacher got suspended. The administrator denied telling her it was ok. Rumor is she has emails and is turning the admin in let's see what Aird is going to do. The administor in question should get fired because she has no creditability, and is a liar. She rides teachers for door duty but strolls in late everyday. These are the types of people backing Strand and Montrose. Dirty tricks and lies for administrators who made us the bottom 1%..

Many of the sllient majority back the current board and see how hard they have worked to get us raises. The raises we have gotten are closing the divide. However, we have many old guard teachers that need to get with 21st century learning skills and the use of technology. They coupled with bad administrators are holding the district back. I am glad this teacher is standing up for herself and we know the board will stand up for just like the teacher that was dismissed by Christy cronie at Bardwell and recalled to Odonnell.. I don't know Montrose but I am sadden Kristen would fall prey. I know Scott struggles in his classroom Prehaps that is why. Scott this is some good advise other than your wife and you allowing the district to move backwards look for another job not everyone is cut out to teach large classrooms of high needs children. You can now see the types of administrators that will fill your heads up with lies. Just reflect on the teacher at Hermes.

  51. Kirsten Strand has been an advocate for children and families in East Aurora for the past 10 years. She is the founder and Director of Community 4:12, the compassion and justice ministry of Community Christian Church, that partners with District 131 to provide tutoring and mentoring programs for children and adults, teacher appreciation activities, and community events such as the Christmas Giftmart and Haiti Market of Hope.
A clinical psychologist by training, Kirsten developed a passion for at-risk youth when working in Baltimore for the Maryland State Department of Education as a Service-Learning Coordinator. Kirsten and her husband, Scott, and their two sons moved to Naperville, Illinois in 1999. Kirsten immediately noticed the huge economic and cultural disparity between Naperville and East Aurora, a community just 15 minutes away; a disparity that she believed she and others could not ignore. She developed Community 4:12 as a ministry to address educational, economic, and cultural differences and inequalities between affluent and under-resourced communities. Kirsten’s husband, Scott, left his corporate career in 2004 to become an elementary school teacher, and has taught at Bardwell in D131 since 2006. Their family moved to East Aurora in 2007. Her two sons, Erik (15) and Brian (13) have attended D131 schools since then: Bardwell Elementary, the East Aurora Magnet Academy, and East Aurora High School.

Kirsten graduated from Emory University in Atlanta, GA in 1990 with a Bachelors of Science in Biology and Psychology and from Ohio State University in 1993 with a Master of Arts in Child Clinical Psychology. She grew up in Florida, the daughter of educators. Her father was Dean of Admissions of Eckerd College and her mother an elementary school teacher and principal.
Kirsten is passionate about and deeply committed to working with parents, teachers, students, and community members to help build a vibrant and thriving school district and community. She has worked hard for the past decade to build relationships with teachers and administrators, and has brought a Parent Mentor program to the district that has empowered dozens of parents who have been intimidated by the American education system to get involved in their children’s schools. If elected to the high honor of serving as a School Board member, Kirsten will strive to be a voice for all children and families. She believes that our teachers and administrators must be held to high standards, but must also be empowered and equipped to do one of the most important jobs in our society…educating and inspiring our next generation of leaders. Two of Kirsten’s highest priorities are ensuring fiscal accountability and responsibility and hiring the next Superintendent that will lead our district to excellence

    In the end we win

Public education had a profound impact on Zach’s life growing up, in High School Zach was involved in choir, band, school musicals, worked at the school’s news program as a producer and was chosen to participate in an early college program at Carnegie Mellon University’s music school with Dr. Robert Page. Zach was profoundly impacted by a number of educators during his high school days, educators who took the time to speak words of affirmation, always encouraging him to pursue excellence. Those educators have helped shape him into the person he is today.

Zach currently serves as the Executive Pastor at Ginger Creek Community Church in Aurora. Zach has served on staff at Ginger Creek for nearly seven years in various capacities. In his current role, Zach oversees the day-to-day operations of the church leading staffing, finances, strategic initiatives, communication and community outreach. Zach graduated from Liberty University with a Bachelors of Science in Business Management and will graduate from Olivet Nazarene University in February of 2013 with a Masters in Business Administration.
As a homeowner and future parent of a Tomcat, Zach believes in the power of public education and the full potential that East Aurora has. As a stakeholder in the community, Zach has a strong vested interest in ensuring our school district functions at the highest capacity possible.
Zach believes that serving the community as an elected official is a high calling and shouldn’t be taken lightly. If elected Zach will serve the East Aurora community with honesty and integrity, striving to meet the needs of children, families, the community and educators. Zach believes in a holistic approach to education, knowing that ‘it takes a village to raise a child.’ As a School Board member Zach will strive to ensure transparency and accountability from the district and will work his hardest to ensure parents and teachers have every tool in their arsenal to ensure the best education for our kids.

  55. It must be that the silent majority of administration support the board is because they didn't do anything about their mis use of credit cards and they could be prosecuted for that. This board has used their powers to get people on the board that would support Johnson and her agenda to keep Roberts and that includes Hull. When there where two vacancies that happened it took the second time for him to be approved by the board and that is because the believed he would support Roberts. It is time for change and this is the year we can do it. It is too bad that there are only two running that can get three of the worst out on the four year. The others for the two year we haven't heard too much about but they can't be any worse than what we have now.

Zach and Kristen sound like a good fit so lets make this happen. I wouldn't of known about them unless the website was posted on this blog and I believe they have a good mission statement. The bad postings about them are board members or there friends not the ones that want the best for this district.

  59. The Board addressed the credit cards and many other things like the insurance. The States Attorney has not taken the case yet and is still reviewing it. The nsurance, misuse of maintenance trips, bid issues and everything else happened over many other boards and was addressed by this one.

If you read Kristen and Zacks message they want to turn things back to the administration. That, would be true because they can't vote on a majority of issues. Their campaign is a conflict of interest. Lets explore the insurance policies how could they change anything they have district insurance?

They are a return to the past and the Board will begin a new Superintenent search this year. They are promising someone from the outside. Remember, Montroy and Strand have both spoke publicly fior administration.. They need to it puts food on their tables, their spouses are employed by the district.

Unfortunitly for them they decsided to run and now their names along with the current board members continued to be attacked by this blog. Remember all these people do not get paid. When you question why someone does not run read the Blog. Who would want to?. Other boards have many of the same issues, they just don't have a blog to destroy them and the community.

This blog should be shut down if the community member really loves the district like she says.

    ReplyDelete
  60. 3:15 a.m., either you can't read or you choose to read very selectively.

I see quite a few positive, supportive comments on this thread about Kirsten and Zack. In fact, some people may be finding out about their qualifications and choosing to vote for them because of what they're reading on this blog.

    ReplyDelete
  61. Kirsten and Zack are right on target by saying they will turn things over to admin. The Board should have a superintendent that is able to do their job and DOES it. If that is not the case, the BOARD does not step in and run things, it fires its one employee and gets someone capable. The disease of the head has flowed thru the body of our district.

If anything, no one wants to be on a board who is so inept, it has nothing to do with a blog, how outrageous. It has more to do with working to do what is right for the education of the students when you have a majority on the Board who are glad handing as if their position is a social event.

  62. The board did not look into if the money spent with the credit cards where for district use and didn't make the ones without receipts pay the district back all they did is take the cards away. A couple of years back some on the board questioned the credit card bills but where said not to worry about it so how much has administration stole from the district. Only until it was time for re election did anyone really start doing anything about the mis use of money. Again someone brought it to this boards attention about the insurance and they did not bother until now to do something.

As for the ones that are running now you may have some friends that are in administration and you might find out when you get on the board that they are really different that what you thought before you got on the board. The thoughts about how a district is to be ran is in The IL School Code so that is a positive for them because it shows they have looked into a board members role and how a district should be ran. With that being said hopefully they will live up to that and not change like the ones we have now and keep a superintendent so one of them can run the district.

Who are the others candidates that are running for the two year terms?

    ReplyDelete
  63. Zack and Kristen are part of the old guard administrators that want things the same and that is who is backing them Christy Aird and Marin Gonzalez are pulling the strings. I would have felt better if there pay checks are not coming from the district. Everyone in small town Aurora has friends that work at the district but I can not support someone who gets there family money from the district they should have had more common sense.

The two year candidate is a minister from Tutor minister freind of Kristen's . Don't know the other lady.

Yeah lets give the District back to the administrators that should work its served us so well.

  64. If you are Johnson they will call you names or the current members. They do this cowherds because they never post there name.

If Montry and Srand get on the Board they will be called unethical and the likes. No decision they ever make will be right. It always be you favor this administrator.

To think that one man or one women can come in and change this district is dream land. It takes everyone. Many times a person interviews well and is not the best for the job. So we are hoping we can get lucky.

Answer this what person would professionally want this job. This blog attacks everyone. It is searchable. Professionally no Superintendent candidate wants that.

Many community members site this blog as the reason they dont run.

We should thank the current people for serving and trying to make a difference.

Look at the facts be happy credit cards are fixed. Did you do that or just sit behind the blog and write complaints.

As for Dr Roberts god bless you for and Mrs Johnson for putting up with all you do.

    ReplyDelete
  65. Why would anyone think you can get someone to come to this district and suddenly fix all its problems. The problem with people like Zack and Christen is thet live in a bubble. They think everyone works hard, is self motivated , tells the truth and wants to work for the kids. There are some at 131that are however there are a lot more that just collect a check. There is more of a chance than not of hiring the wrong person. Professionally nobody good wants to work for a underperforming district unless that is the last job they will ever have. maybe the two of them should pray about I am sure that will work.

  67. This district will have a hard time finding anyone good. It is true if you google 131 this stupid blog comes up. A professional, a real professional would read all this and say why would I want to get involved with this. This blog causes fights in the office, hurt feelings and I would go as far as to say hurt feeling on the board. I know Kristen personally and would describe as a innocent person wanting to help others. I am sure she never thought her name would be dragged through the mud like it was. I also know Annette and her bark is worst than her bite. Talking to her she really wants what is best for the kids. I know she feels as though Roberts was a mistake and has fixed many things because it appears she is trying to make up for extending his contract. I also know Jerome a before his marriage problems he was turning the district around. Remeber Radocvich left the district broke. All in all they have all tried but this blog is a blight on d131

  68. On the other hand blogs (and the Internet in general) can be a good thing, exposing the truth and enabling issues to be discussed and challenged.

  70. One person cannot change what is going on in this district. But 2-4 people with a large community of support CAN make a difference. If that community is Christian based, in my opinion, all the better.

These people and their supporters have shown in numerous ways and many times what they can and will do for our schools, many of which have not gotten big fanfare, but have been done humbly because they are there for the children.

The person who thinks A. Johnson is doing all she can for the students.....beware, she puts on a facade of a carrying community member, but what she says and does behind closed doors would make this blog look like a children's story.

  71. January 4th 5;36 p.m. -your statement that nobody good would want to work for an underperforming district is ludicrous. I have 3 post-secondary degrees and have awards and commendations up the yin yang. I always have worked for poor and underperforming districts because that is where the real challenges are. Poor and minority children need/deserve good teachers too. Not everyone is driven by the almighty buck. Anyone can teach rich white kids who are reading at grade level or honors classes. The real challenge is to get a group of tenth graders who read at second grade level to pass, to keep going, to improve their skills. The NCLB standards are a joke anyways, so don't be fooled by that. Just sick of people who have never taught to keep downing very talented hard-working professionals-- why don't you try it for a day? Oh sorry , you're sitting on your arse end criticizing those who attempt to make things better.

  73. The posters about the blog bring up many good points. And this blog has not uncovered anything. The blog master served on the board and uses it to get even with administrators and current board members. I have seen first.hand the tears in the office after someone posts about a person or their family. I do know of at least two People former educators that had no conflicts and old have devoted the time necessary to making this district better. I do know professionally in public schools today social media plays a big part on looking for a job. I know it will effect our Superintenent choice, bring on good teachers and other cabinet people. Today we need a strong curriculum person, we don't have one Gonzalez, Aird, Adams have not filled that role. The people that apply for those positions want to become superintendents some day. Do you think they will risk coming here? Do you think building principals, good ones with experience in school turn around would risk coming here. How about the board members you can count on your repution being ruined

Ms Carlson you got your way you are ruining any future of a great district. Thank You

This is 2013, and there are thousands of blogs in cyberspace. Before this one started, people discussed our district's issues on the Openline blog. (they still do--take a look at this thread:)

    http://www.blogger.com/comment.g?blogID=8854980&postID=7659240456802047809

On the Openline blog the moderator sometimes disables comments or removes those that he doesn't agree with (but leaves the obscenities). If something is posted on our blog
that isn't accurate someone is likely to challenge it and give examples or cite evidence to prove their point.

The trend in 2013 is towards starting more blogs, not shutting them down.

  80. I am not saying most of us don't teach in our district for the right reasons. I also know you have to be a better teacher to teach in our district. We are not given a aligned curriculum like other high performing districts. However, good administrators go to good school districts. Administrators leave the classroom to make more money and are climbers by nature. If you love education you teach. Many administrators worry about their resumes just like people who work for a bank. This blog distorts a persons reputation.

I also think people who are vested in the community worry about their repution. Why would you want a volunteers position and subject your family and children to name calling. Yes blogs are popular and you refer to blogs that are written for public paid positions. point out a blog that is about a school district and is allowed to hurt people like this one. I also have not seen blogs that are censured. Most blogs will allow you to report something offensive and it can be deleted.

I wonder if the blog master will allow my comments

  87. Outcry or not the board has the final sa. We know Montroy and Strand have more of a personal interest in keeping their business partnerships going.. Montroy wife is big friends with Marin. Strands husband can get the transfer he hopes for. Kristen can freely recruit more members to her church along with Zack who has a vested interest to show he can grow a ministry. Everyone at Ginger Creek knows he will stop at no length to be head pastor like daddy. With pay checks coming from the distrct and their business relationshipsthey just have too many conflicts for me. We all know a good Superintenent would have ever allowed church and state to e violated anyways.

Here are pictures and proof Marin and Jackie Montroy went to Nicaragua together over Winter Break.

This has been circulated around the High School. I know Jackie to be a busy body who jokes she wears the pants in the family. She feels she will now have her voice on the Board. She has complained about keeping track of her daily logs. Why? should we not be accountable for our time.

She also is a great supporter of Marin's and has stated in public Marin ran the district for years and Roberts made her false promises. She feels Marin would make a good superintendent.

Marin destroyed many good teachers. I could give you many stories.

She claims to have support to get district back whatever that means.

Many of us can not vote but will use this blog to expose Marin

  89. -and as far as East suffering because there are a bunch of old-timers there who can't learn the new technology-- Our kids are suffering because of the new technology. They live in virtual worlds, have virtual relationships, and bully each other in cyber space. I can't tell you how many kids who hate reading but spend all night texting or with their video games read at 1-3 grade level, and this is at the high school. Just because something is new doesn't make it good. And as far as new technology for teachers, well, when you introduce new programs at the speed of light every semester, even the young teachers express dismay. At any time there are three or four different data entering programs that we have to master. What any of this has to do with teaching, asking essential questions, igniting excitement and inquiry is anyone's guess. My guess is not too much. Sorry, while younger teachers are cheaper and do know the latest programs, it is your older teachers who actually know what it is to teach, how to build trust and relationships with the most problemmatic students. How has technology affected your life? that you can claim hundreds of "friends" on Facebook (that you only interact with in cyber-space) or bully each other on blogs? Wow. What an incredible addition to the fullness of the human experience. Why don't we take away all human contact and hook our kids up to the computer for the entire school day. Oh wait, that is already happening......I wonder what "data" supports the success of these programs. I am sure it is very "comprehensive".

"Ms Carlson you got your way you are ruining any future of a great district." & "The blog is evil I will pray for Ms Carlson that one day she can find peace and not contribute to such hate!"

To those who keep referencing my name, and inferring what I may be seeking in life...I am born and raised in East Aurora and have only wanted to see good things happen for the place I call home. I have been involved in the district for many years prior to my short board term. The many things you may read about me here or things others have chosen to say about me elsewhere do not necessarily reflect who I truly am or what my intentions have been.

I appreciate any and all prayer, we all can use it. If you feel I am "contributing to hate" call me and we can talk about this misconception or we can pray together for our district.

    My 2 cents.

  91. 12:29 p.m., technology is as least as much a blessing as it is a curse!

Information that used to be difficult to access is now available almost instantly. From buying a car to getting directions to an address, computer technology has made our day-to-day lives much easier. I remember having to go to a library and spend hours looking through a card catalogue or encyclopedias when working on my homework. Today's kids just log on and all that information is at their fingertips.

My grandfather used to say "the only good thing about the good old days is that they're gone".

  93. 2:26 p.m -There is of course plenty of great technology-- especially in the medical field. Do I want to back to the days of putting a stick in my mouth to keep from screaming during an amputation? Certainly not. What I do object to is the current trend of honoring the god of technology, the god of "if it's new it must be good" above what really is the heart of education- the human interaction between teacher and student- the socratic method- the teacher asking the question that ignites the deire to learn and allows the student to reveal those ideas that lay buried, hidden. And sorry there were alot of good things about the old days: writing actual letters, town hall meetings, courtship instead of instant gratification, and finally the idea that hard work and temerity was a reward in itself. There were some terrible times I am sure, if you are a student of history you know that. Look around; we are having some pretty terrible times right now; and our students are suffering through this without even the promise of a job at the end of their four years. The old days weren't that good? The present days ain't all that spiffy either. C'est vrai?

    ReplyDelete
  94. 3:17 p.m., I am a private piano & voice teacher, and I can tell you that (in my field, at least) there is still plenty of face-to-face human interaction! Some jobs have benefited from the technology/information explosion; some have suffered; and some (like mine) have changed very little.

And your statement about students not having the promise of a job after four years: that depends on their field of expertise! My son is 25 with a degree in computer science and is making +70K as a software engineer. My 23-year-old daughter has a degree in psychology and is working full-time in her field and also taking classes toward an advanced degree.

Not denying there are problems, but look at the positives also!

Most crime is committed by young adults in society (Teens). Who has the most direct contact with these kids and therefor the most opportunity to influence their behavior? Teachers who have direct contact with these individuals on a daily basis? or Police Officers who generally show up after an incident is over and write the report?

Nothing against our police officers, they do a hard job but it is as ridiculous to give the police credit for a low crime rate as it is to place the blame on them for a high crime rate.

If the City of Aurora has an extra $144,500 to throw away, they should put the money into prevention programs to help keep the crime rate low.

  105. I have to somewhat agree with January 6, 2013 10:14 PM.

These people (Kirsten & Zack)have been doing good works in 131 for years, now all of a sudden people are questioning their motives and if things are being done according to law!?!?

Where were you when all the 'community service' work was being put into our schools with and for our students?

Who else would all this matter to, other than a person who has something to lose by their win?

    ReplyDelete
  106. Its not about the good Kristen and Zack do or the goodb the current board did. it is about two groups and hate and a blog that nobody will sign their name to. Unless it is true that Marin is already hand picked by Montroy and Strand they will so find out it willit will be impossiblet to find someone to apply that wants to be superintendent. There is a pattern why we have not gotten the best administrative leaders . There is also a pattern why administrators leaving this district like Marin who was bilingual could not find a good job and had to settle its called chacterter assassination and if you step up that the world you will walk into.

    ReplyDelete
  107. Marin Gonzalez EArned HERSELF a reputation in this district as a bully. It is her own fault that so many in D131 have serious concerns about her qualifications for superintendent.

I do not know Dr. Gonzalez personally, and can't say I "hate" her; I wish her all the happiness and success she deserves (!?), in ANOTHER district.

    ReplyDelete
  108. Marin still has a influence on d131 she is not in the TRS system anymore CPS has another pension system and that close to retirement she is taking a financial impact. The mission trip is interesting since she was never student friendly in 131.I feel the Montroys and Strands because of their religious values take people like Marin at face value but need to be very careful. I have also seen posting from Montroy turning negative a clear mark of district politics Marin played. Kristen is not that type of person and is only hurting her good work. Let us not forget the many many problems Marin created for innocent people and I would hate to see Kristen wrapped up in this

    ReplyDelete
  109. Unfortunately, the board believes that they are saving the district millions of dollars but in reality, this only shows their ignorance.

Every time the board brags that they have saved the district a million, the state reduces their funding a million. That's the way it is with public funding, use it or lose it. If you don't need that million, there are a hundred other public bodies that would love to have it.

What have we heard? 12 million cut from the state so far this school year? Annette just doesn't have a clue.

    ReplyDelete
  110. Shows how stupid you are if d131 gets cuts so do all the other district GSA is the same formula for every school district based on number of students and real estate taxes.

I believe Johnson has owned her business for a number of years, a search of it shows a excellent credit rating and in these times that pretty good.

    ReplyDelete
  114. I too followerd the link for the mission trip. What I noticed was the poor grammar in Marin's bio. Just like when she had had her resumes floating on the Internet last spring. That is what CPS got and I hope they keep. She would be a JOKE as superintendent.

    ReplyDelete
  115. Jacki we know that is you posting. Keep wasting tax payees dollars as you complain about your job and accountability.

    ReplyDelete
  116. Yes and the reign of Marin Gonzalez will some be back. Someone should ask Jackie why she allows students to come over to her house and why Jackie did not report the trainer that got pregnant with a student by the initials of BR. It was understood that Jackie and Zack mentor and helped pay his cell phone bill and had knowledge via text messages. Marin looked the other way and now has a favor due her. Look at those pictures and remember all you K supporters. BTW I am Not Johnson I am a person who remembers what happened to French. Zack has but a few weeks to with draw before the news comes out about his wife.

    ReplyDelete
  117. Everyone knows Marin did not take the job she currently has because it was her first choice. Marin left a bunch of teachers in her path and was a true bully. The Montroys should watch the company they keep at first I was going to help him but now that makes you think. The buzz is he is promising Dr Roberts head if he is on he Board and while I have never been impressed with him he is a honorable person and not a back stabbed like Marin. If that what change is going back to that past is a nightmare.

No. But they are an improvement upon who is there and for that reason, they'll have my vote.

    ReplyDelete
  121. Just because people go to church, work at a church, or believe in Jesus doesn't mean that they're going to actively combine church and state in the form of public schools. 122. Johnson is listed as President and Owner. Linkin shows her as a accountant. Another, report had the business rated as excellent credit with 20 employees. So it's seems I would rather have a board person who operates their own business makes payroll and is responsible. I believe Leonard had his own business as well. Anita is listed as a manager. 124. 9:51 p.m., I also plan to vote for Kristen and Zack. I have faith that they are well aware of Marin Gonzalez' reputation in this district, and would not want to alienate the community by bringing her back.

    ReplyDelete
  125. I will not vote for them because of questions with being business partners and there husband and wife working for the district. Going on a mission trip with Marin confirmed that. This blog stopped to many community members and good administrators from coming here. Rayanne you have destroyed the school system that the one thing everyone agrees on

  126. The point is that it is suppose to be the Superintendent running the district not the board. Although a school district should have good credit they are not a money making business but they do have to know how to spend it right. Some on this board has broken the law and not followed there own policies. Lenoard is no better he might call things out but doesn't follow through and if he is getting jobs for his friends that is wrong.

By the way if someone is raising children and managing a household that is a real job and they are a manager. If the spouses can stay at home with the children that is the best thing for children when they are growing up.

    ReplyDelete
  127. I agree with 9:51. Nicely put. They will have my vote, also. I'd rather have "do gooders" than our present members. In this case, managers of a business do not seem to be in the best interest of D131 children. Where someone puts children first, by doing good for our students and staff, I feel our district will see notable improvements.

  128. 9:02 a.m., many churches have partnerships with local schools. I know that my church (St. Olaf) does. It is a win-win situation for everyone: kids, taxpayers, and church members.

  129. Anyone who read the recent story about zero homicides in Aurora for last year could not have missed how many agencies, police, church members, clergy and schools, along with local social service agencies youth groups are to credit with cleaning up much of Aurora's gang crime/ activity.

D131 needs partnerships throughout the community. I do not mean one Board member calling the shots for specific individuals or contracts, but the district as a whole needs the EA community. Who better to represent the community than someone whose family's life is entwined in the community in many ways. In church, in school and volunteering in their neighborhoods.

Business owners outside the community can partner with 131, but don't have the vested interest as those who work, live and have family in the EA school district.

  130. Strand has used the school district if she really believed in sending her sons to "real" East Aurora schools she would have not sent them to the Magnet School. She used used questionable tactics at the time a lottery was held for only a few spots because she was told by her friend Aird to apply for 5 spots that are allocated for private school students. Now the district provides free take home computers for her sons. Why does she not give it to a poor family.

  131. When exactly did society decide that being a business person somehow made a person a good political leader? The last thing that business people think about is the common good (The common good is supposed to be the role of a political leader).
To be successful in business, you spend all day long figuring out how obtain the most profit possible for the least amount of services given. You further decide how to pay your employees the least possible and obtain the most work from them.
Business people spend every waking hour figuring out how to screw everyone around them for their own personal profit. Why would anyone want somebody like this for their leader?
I think it’s pretty simple. A good leader needs just a few qualifications. They need to be honest, have integrity and can handle basic math. They need to forget personal agendas and put the community they serve ahead of themselves, family and friends.
A business person is the last person I want as my political leader.

    ReplyDelete
  132. Again, who would be privy to this kind of info. Other than someone within the district that has enough info about these things to fabricate stories about others. Not your average community member.

Be you employee or board member, 11:13am? Or maybe friend of same.

    ReplyDelete
  133. Didn't Lewis use her influence to get one of her grandchildren moved to another school who has special needs?

The board did change some policies like the one if you go to a conference less than 50 miles away you couldn't stay at a hotel?

I still don't see a policy about use of the pro cards.

The only people that have ruined the district is themselves. If someone wanted a job and was good at it would not care about what is posted on a blog. Yes, there will be times people think someone is a bully and sometimes that is what you need to get things done. I believe a good Superintendent that knew how to run a school wouldn't want to work in a district where a board wants to run the show there job is to make policies for the Superintendent to run the district and the person pick the right administration to follow policy.

  134. Wait, wait, wait. Its not the Magnet school its the Fred Rodgers Magnet School. How utterly ridiculous. Our Magnet School is named after a guy who had nothing to do with D131 or academics. Just because the building is named one this does not mean the school needs to be named after this guy. Maybe one of the new board members will make an official motion to name the academy with a more fitting title.

  138. The name of the building the Magnet Academy is housed in will not be changed.
Per the contract the district signed (https://v3.boardbook.org/Public/PublicItemDownload.aspx?ik=32593092)
"(d) District agrees that, regardless of any use District may make of the Property subsequent to its purchase thereof, the Property shall forever continue to have “Fred Rodgers” name utilized and displayed on the Property and/or building located on PIN number 15-22-431-078, commonly known as 501 College Avenue."

    ReplyDelete
  139. Well i think the person is suggesting that you call it the "Annette Johnson Magnet Academy" located in the Fred Rogers Community Center or something like that.

Like it matters what it is called.

    ReplyDelete
  140. 6:38 why would the district sign a contract with that stipulation? Any lawyer will tell you that this could be backed out of very easily. I also think that just because the building is named that does not mean EAst has to call the Academy by that name. Let it be called the East Aurora Magnet Academy or Math and Science Academy that just so happens to be housed in the Fred Rodgers building. We do not call the Chicago Bears the Chicago Soldier Fields. Same thing here. The entire program looses credibility being named after somebody who had nothing to do with D131 or academic excellence.

    ReplyDelete
  141. Remember - According to most people on this blog, the district makes the wrong decision 100% of the time. Had they named it something else I am sure it would have been the wrong person.

  142. BTW if you want to start a business or purchase one you just need capital and collateral. I researched Johnson business and I have a question: is Chicago heights a wealthy north shore suburb? If not I bet Johnson gets a government subsidy to have a business in a depress area along with section 8 for her apartments. Nothing like entitlement programs to pad the pocket and then complain about paying taxes.

  146. 10:34 Why was left out of your listing as a manager. If you go to the city website it looks like Hull manages 40 employees in two divisions. How many people does Lewis manage? How many employees at your company? Did Leonard employ anyone else?. My experience has revealed to me that many business owners chose that route because they are extremely difficult to get along with others. I was looking at board members on the district site. Turza and Hull are the only members who have worked in the community before the school board. Johnson bio is really short especially for someone who loves to brag about herself. Surely such an astute business leader can share something of interest. I can only assume she has nothing at all to show for herself. I voting for someone who has walked the talk. The Montroy and Strand families have track record of service not just hot air.

  150. Overall, I'm ashamed of this blog! As if Aurora doesn't have a bad enough reputation, many of you feel the need to bash hard-working, dedicated community members who are doing all they can to make a difference...what are you doing??? Montroy and Strand have a vested interest in this district...they walk the talk...upstanding individuals and our community should be proud to have them! What a shame so many feel the need to bash these 2 wonderful families when obviously you have NO clue who they are, what they stand for; they are people of integrity! Let's act like responsible community members and stop lying, gossiping and demeaning those that ARE MAKING A POSITIVE DIFFERENCE for our families!

  154. There was chat at the onset that maybe the new Magnet Academy (after it showed success) may be named after Roberts. I agree, the school within does not have to be named for the building. Either way, the name of the building doesn't make or break the success of the school. Fred Rodgers was an asseet to our children, why question his name on the building?

One or 2 posters here seem to always like to point fingers. "The blog makes the district look bad, the name of the school makes it look bad...." If there was a good image, with documented success there would be no reason for finger pointing.

No thanks. Then there is the Marin issue. I know Marin and she never worked with the kids at East when she was principal. In fact she conduced illegal shakedowns. I am a proud band parent and saw first hand what they did to K. I also know families who have left St Teresa to join Community Church 412. I looked at the website and materials they have produced and really think its time for a call to the ACLU. Go back to Naperville.

  161. Someone talks about how Johnson is a successful business person and she drives a nice car but what you don't hear is how she treats her employees. Does she pay them well or just minimum wage. Do they get health insurance from her company that nets 8 million? Does she give them a Christmas party like the district does on tax payers dime?

I don't care if someone running for the district has a spouse that works for the district and get health care from them and that the spouse is running for the board what is the point of bring that up?

    ReplyDelete
  162. I am a friend of Annette Johnson's so I am being transparent which is more than I can say for the rest of people writing. I know she treats her employees well and runs a handicap job training program since her company was located next to it. Well I hear everyone say she brags I never hear her tooting her own horn about her business. The facts are she bought the business years ago when it was in bankruptcy and grew it into and nice sized business all on her own. I have visited her plant and was.very touched by some of the special needs people working there.

I also know she spent loads of her time fixing the district. some may not be pleased that they lost their jobs but changes needed to happen. We may complain why she did not clean credit cards up sooner. I say to that well at she did. Well soe criticize I know the school district is a better place.

I d not know the other two but I do have a problem wih relatives working for the district while their spouses work for the district. I also had the same problem with Carol Farmun and Salinas. We should be thankful anyone wants to run for this board with a blog like this. Because there is choice I will not vote for Strand and Montroy I also have a problem with the tone of their message that they had to come in from Naperville and save the day because we are to uneducated.

    ReplyDelete
  163. You people are so elitist - It's not like they came from Naperville last week or even last year. They have been here, they live here, their property values are tied to the schools just like yours.

And what the hell is wrong with Naperville. They have some pretty good schools over there. Maybe instead of having a chip on your shoulder you should take their ideas and maybe the district could get better despite the people trying to tear it down, like the administrators of this blog.

  166. Teachers hear all the time about why we aren't doing things like Naperville does. Just a couple of months ago our new Sports and Activities Director, Nestor Garcia came to the elementary PE teachers with the Naperville curriculum in hand wnating to know why District 131 teachers weren't doing all the things that Naperville kids were doing in PE.

It was an eye opening experience for him. First off, District 131 elementary students only get PE 2 days a week, while Naperville kids recieved PE 5 days a week. There was also a lot of talk about the facilities. Some PE classes are happening in lunch rooms or class rooms. It's difficult teaching basketball or baseball skills in a class room with 8 foot high ceilings.

Take a look at music. Go to a Waubonsee HS and you will find 8 full time music teachers and dozens of private lesson instructors working with their kids. East High has a total of 2.

Once again, teachers are doing the best with what they are given but the district gives us only scraps to work with. Until District 131 gives it's children the support they need, the community should not expect excellence.

In the meantime, the superintendent can brag about all the money District 131 has in the bank (of course, with the bookkeeping being what it is in District 131, no numbers can be relied on as being accurate).

    ReplyDelete
  167. 11:12 a.m., I agree with most of what you're saying. And this blog may have its flaws, but it does give some of us an opportunity to set people straight. We do not have Naperville's resources so it is not a true apples-to-apples comparison to say that our P.E. classes should be doing the same things.

About the music at WVHS--those "dozens" (probably more like 15 or 20) of private music instructors you mention are NOT employees of the district. Those lessons are paid for individually by PARENTS, who choose to invest a bit extra in their child's musical development. Big difference! I remember when my daughter was at WVHS, and I bought her a professional model instrument and took her to weekly private lessons. This was standard procedure for any parent of a student in an advanced band or orchestra. Parents have a key role in their kids' success--it can't be just the school district's responsibility!

  168. Johnson lived in naperville , she always talks about how 204 operates. She went northwestern just ask her. Does not brag are you serious , look at 5.56 Jan.7. Can you imagine how hard it is to get the alumni, gays , teachers, administrators, maintenance, christians, pastors, bullied students, business owners, housing projects, blacks, whites, Hispanics, boosters, old timers , retirees, bus drivers, football coach and media tee'd off in one year. 169. I for one wish Aurora schools were more like Naperville. Huh, some of the best high schools in the state. Academics that are second to none. Athletics and gifted programs that are top rated.

    ReplyDelete
  170. January 7, 2013 5:26 AM was bragging about teacher pay in District 131 as though we were somehow being competitive with neighboring school districts. I looked up just the three in Aurora, East, West and Indian Prairie. Picked three salaries, first year, middle of the schedule (10 years, Master + 45-48) and top end.

    1st Year with Bachelors
    East $40,000
    West $42,991
    IP 204 $42,065

    10 Years with Masters
    East $50,151
    West $66,062
    IP 204 $60,553

    Top level of salary schedule
    East $75,685
    West $110,800
    IP 204 $104,228

As you can see, they do a much better job at trying to keep the best teachers in their districts.

I know that the first thing we are all going to hear is that East Aurora is a poor school district who just can’t afford these high teacher’s salaries. I did a little more digging. Here is what East and West spend per pupil:

    East $8,040 per student
    West $8,077 per student

They are virtually the same yet somehow, on the West Side, the teachers are much better paid and the buildings are in much better condition. Their kids receive a much higher level of services. The grounds are kept up and the students have all the equipment needed to succeed. Their sports teams have about twice the coaches the East side has. The coaches are paid better and their teams have newer uniforms and equipment.

There is no real comparison. It makes a person wonder where all that extra money is going in District 131. It certainly isn’t going to the children.

    ReplyDelete
  171. 1:41 p.m.--I wish the parents in our district were like the parents in Naperville/Indian Prairie district.

  172. Well I guess all of the people who attack East High teachers can stick it. The naysayers will say well, you are at the bottom of the barrel statewide. Who, besides Chicago area schools, has the social conditions, family gang affiliations, drugs, alcoholism, child rape, economic problems, lack of food, lack of medical care, lack of everything that East Aurora has. I have virtually gone broke just trying to buy my students the essentials. There is such need, it is never enough. Until the social ills are addressed, Tom Weisner and Linda Chapa La Via, the student's academic performance will always take second stage.

  175. The Magnet Acakemy was not Johnson's idea. The only thing she has done with it is cost the district money for it. That school was not supposed to cost this district anything and I am not impressed with the results of the students. That school has only segrated some students from others. Have seen presentations of some of these students and from what I have seen, there is no difference between the mainstream and what the magnet sudenta are learning. This is not meant to be a bad reflection on the magnet students. The main difference between them is that magnet students get individual attention where the teachers in the regular classes do not have the time to do this with their students. From one who has been around since this has started.

How is it that all the other districts in the State and in the Country have their Superintendent run the district with the direction of policies by boards. This board allows a president to run the district and not the superintendent which is The IL School Code.

    1. ALL students selected to participate were already MEETING or EXCEEDING on ISAT test. FACT

    2. CLASS SIZE- there is a "cap" that the rest of the teachers do not have FACT

    3. COMPUTERS- now each student at Magnet has a computer- most classrooms have a 15:1 ratio of students to computers FACT

    4. The $$ cost- it was explained to the COMMUNITY and STAFF that is would not cost any extra- this year the district has paid MILLIONS out of general funds to move forward (for a select few)- and when they open the doors where is the MILLIONS that are needed to staff and equip going to come from? FACT

voters need to take notice- watch out for the Strand and Montroy "Sheeps in Wolves" clothing (or as another poster so rightfully alluded to the Naperville great white hope) they will be protective of the interest of a select few....

  186. 8:43 you sound like a racist. I an East tax payer and I for one along with every single person I know on the East side (many since I have lived here my entire life)think the Magnet school is years over due and just what the East disctrict needs to encouge other kids in the district to strive for academic excellence and for the community which does not have a single school that it can say is achieving standards. We are glad the money is being spent. Look at the enormous amounts (tens of millions) on breakfast, lunches, after care, before care, remedial programs and the list goes on and on and on or kids who do not excel. Thank you Annette Johnson, Jerome Roberts and Mayor Weisner.

    1. Racist please! Think about your priorities, you cite and fault money being spent on nourishment, education and care for the weakest among us. The poor children that made no choice and had no say in the life situation that they were born into. Read the message I posted. The only reason that school is achieving is because they handselected the population that could participate. Those students would be achieving in any of the other schools. I challenge you to look at the budget and let's do a comparative analysis on the amount per student that is being spent for the elite at the academy versus the "enormous amounts (tens of millions) on breakfast, lunches, after care, before care, remedial programs and the list goes on and on and on or kids who do not excel." I guarantee that if you looked at it from technology, to staff, to buildings expenses it FAR surpasses what is being spent on the underperforming schools. Look in the mirror.

8:43 sounds like a racist??? I never realized that stating facts makes a person a racist.

I have to agree with others on here. The Magnet Academy has not shown this community any improvement over the other schools. They have simply concentrated all the students who are meeting and exceeding in one location, so they can say this group of kids is passing standards.

The downside is that all the other schools scores will be dropping next year (when the MagnetAcademy officially becomes a school). But, of course, we will not see that fact documented until Roberts is long gone.

  191. RACIST! how in the heck did you read that into that persons comment? I was born raised and attended schools in EA. I do nto know too many people wishing for a Magnet school but rather a school to educate our students who excell, not accomodate those who do not want to main stream in EA.

What happened to the grant money and the efforts combined with other Fox Valley schools to bring and IMSA type school to our students?

  192. Kudos to Kirsten & Zach for the fundraiser last night. We had a blast talking to them, 150 people, including elected officials and educators. But the best were us parents there who signed up to help get them elected. The fact that they raised $4,500k is remarkable! CHANGE IS COMING IN APRIL!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  193. It is time for this blog to stop calling everyone names The Magnet School is a good thing. Why should we send all the money over to Aurora University it only benefits kids from West Aurora they already attend classes there with a joint partnership. None of the other districts are sending students there either. Give credit to Dr Roberts for starting this and Annette Johnson for staying withit and the other Board members for making it happen . Maybe if Aurora could ever give credit to East Aurora and we did not have a blog that ripped us down the East Side could rebuild.

  194. It is fact that East spends not only tens of millions but much much more on the kids that are not up to standards. Look around at all the other districts in the area. Why is East #700 out of 709? and you are complaining about a magnet school and want even more money to go to the underachievers? Wow!?!

  195. Another form of racism is finding racism when none exists. If you are calling someone else a racist who isn't, then YOU'RE the racist 9:10. 8:43's post had absolutely nothing to do with race. YOU'RE the one who tried to bring race into the picture.

  196. EA could rebuild if the blog didn't tear it down. Call the Wa-a-a-ambulance. Quit whining, making excuses and finger pointing. If you are not part of the solution, you are part of the problem.

  197. Yes we all know Zack and Kristen can raise money outside off our district just look who likes them on Facebook everyone outside of the community. As far as the elected officials they are the same ones who back Johnson . We also know Christainty Today magazine is involved and Zack and Kristen have a hidden agenda. Answer this why would outsiders want to put that much money into a non paying job. Answer to steal members of the poor from local churches to fill their collection baskets with hard earned money sent back to Naperville. Kristen's non profit actives are very suspect and bear looking into. As far as change Marin Gonzalez is a voice of the past and will take the school district back to the stone ages. We do not need a superintendent that favors Kristen's non for profit but a instructional leader.

  198. I went to the fund raiser last night and talked with both candidates as well as others. most of which in attendance has teachers that did not live in 131. I wanted to become informed as I always do and I must say as a resident I have never been more disappointed in my tax dollars. It was a pity party of everyone talking about children as victims. It is no wonder this school district ranks last. Not one word about the neighborhoods, overcrowding and our taxes. They have no expectations for the children except you are poor, stupid and needd to be fed should have been the party theme
At least the current board members believe in a better life by building a Magnet school. If I heard one more time I moved into this community to help. Why? If you want to help, stay in your community not ours and help there. It w interesting Mrs Strand commented her children attend the Magnet program. Why? If she is so interested in being a part of the community she should send her kids to the regular schools.
Both are very questionable and it seemed they wanted new schools, more taxes and busing although they did not want to answer very specific questions.
