Reputation

Shakespeare said it best:

"Good name in man and woman, dear my lord,
Is the immediate jewel of their souls.
Who steals my purse steals trash...
But he that filches from me my good name
Robs me of that which not enriches him,
And makes me poor indeed"

Individuals, businesses, communities, school districts--all value a good reputation.

How can we improve ours in District 131?

!!!!!SIMMONS SUCKS!!!!!

The union is horrible Craig Rhoades attacked the Board at the last meeting and said the District has great administrators. He did mention the teachers but everyone knew he was put up to it by administration. The Board never said the teachers are bad only the admin's but Craig is attempting to tell teachers the Board is after them when he is only protecting the administration. Why do we not run someone against him he needs to go.

On another note Clayton put the student Board member up to calling the secretaries mean and uncaring Craig just sat their. Because after-all nobody can attack a student. Clayton is trying to spin the poor communication on the Secretaries.

Central Office news is Roberts was written up for the poor job he is doing that after Marin got moved aside and the administration is at war with the Board. Anita Lewis is the one Craig attacked by name. I wonder what next meeting will bring.

I've known this teacher for 20 years. He's an athlete and PE teacher. He's been a semi-pro boxer and a body builder. He is in incredible physical shape, especially for a person of his age.

He has been to my house and I have been to his on countless occassions and we go out socially all the time. The only alchohol I have ever seen him drink is a beer and never more than one.

Anyone who says he is an alcholic is a flat out liar. It could never happen.

As to him having previous problems with the administration, I do know that he has had some tensions with Mechelle because he has been vocal about the mold and ventilation problems at Simmons. The locker room had sewer gasses filtering in and the locker room has no ventilation.

Also the district maintenance guys had installed air conditioning (Just a window type unit) into the weight room but the weight room does not have an outside wall so the condensation just leaks onto the floor creating a really bad mold problem.

As for the sewer gas problem, they poured cement down the drains in the shower area to block the smell. Of course now the showers are useless and so the school breaks building codes.

Unfortunately, this is standard operation procedure for District 131. If a person speaks out against the illegal actions of the administration, you attack the messenger and destroy their reputation.

9:47 you are just stupid. Everything you just said was contrived.

The EEOC is on the horizon shortly. A discriminatory action that has occurred here falls under the grounds of retaliation and all the events and their timing back this claim. Thus, it may take some time, but perserverence will prevail and this teacher will be acquitted for doing the right thing. I think the Simmons admins and above truly believe that all teachers are dumb and spineless when it comes to them. I thought most teachers in 131 do have degrees and are pursuing graduate degrees while working and raising families. Doesn't sound stupid to me. As for spineless, yes many are too meek to sound off. However in this case, it's just getting warmed up. As for the 10:24PM poster last night, before blurting out a nonsensical drinking problem blurp, why don't you say it to the teachers face directly?? Now that would be interesting, Mr. or Ms. Spineless.

Anonymous said...

If you doubt what I stated, that's all you have to do is go to Simmons and see for yourself.

1) Go to the boys locker room and look into the drains. You will see that they have been filled with concrete.

2) Next, find a vent and feel for any air movement,, there is none.

3) Go into the weight room (I would normally suggest holding your breath) and take a deep breath. You might have a little trouble doing this one as the administrators locked the room up because the issue is so bad. Of course, they don't actually fix the problem, they just cover it up.

Everything I stated can easily be verified by anyone who would like to do a little investigative work. If you really doubt it, get off your half moons and do something more than sit at your computer and call other people liars.

Anonymous said...

No, I don't feel like doing any of that - I'm just going to call you a liar.

Anonymous said...

And that's why this district is pathetic. Even when issues are placed right in their face, this community refuses to do anything about it.

Of course, the ones who really suffer are the children who are denied safe building and excellent teachers.

Does a principle have to get the boards approval for a suspension? Also even if they think it is this teacher they have to prove it and whom ever did it the Beacon did not give the name and I believe they never will so how can they say it was that one without proof. Go beyond the union do the whistle blower on the State Boards website.

Anonymous said...

It took a doctor letter to get the mold fixed. All PE people were aware and voiced the stink issue and mold repeatedly. I know Mr. "I am just going to call you a liar" won't check it out. Truly a sad and sorry person..too bad

I hopw the mother's sister is at the meeting as she said she would be. Is this the meeting where Santa comes and gives gifts To the good women and men on the board and the superintendant, etc? If it is then there should be none given as seems all have been naughty! Since it is our monies that pay for these gifts, where are outs for providing the gifts for the naught ones?

Anonymous said...

Yes, they get gifts of retreats at golf clubs, and the many working lunches, taking their family members on trips. For the people that stand up against the things that are wrong in this district they get suspended. If any of these board members think they should get any gift at the meeting they should remember how they have let down many in this district. Didn't one of the board members get one of their family members into a another program because they where getting abused. When these board members stand up for the students that are getting abused or the schools that need help and do something about it then they can get a gift. Also remember that they money that is spent on these gifts that are given are your tax paying dollars.

Yes, In fact it was Anita Lewis's grandson who got moved out of the District because he has being bullied at Waldo. Hull's daughter had problems with grades they give her teachers that will help her complements of Adams. Stella Gonzalez's daughter also got a job with the district so moral to the story if you want your son to be treated well and not bullied run for the Board.

Anonymous said...

I won't pretend to know the story with the 3 board members and their family but in Mrs. Lewis' case my comment would be- the previous posts are off base. I won't sing any praise for Mrs. Lewis as a Board member but no one WANTS their child to be bussed away from their home school. Nor is the district going to incur those additional costs due to bullying, when a cheaper fix would be to expell some bad apples.
I am sorry but in the case of Mrs. Lewis-I am not buying it, it just isn't feasible.

Anonymous said...

As for Lewis the cost of someone going out of the district is triple. I is funny she choose not to send her grandson over to the Urban League. Recently, Roberts gave a big contract to the Urban League to house special ed students. This is the same Urban League who lost the student last year and he was shot to death.

The board members are all long for what is good for them. Word is Leonard already got his friend a job while other maintenance workers get bumped. Most of the problems lay at Johnson's door step because she defends administration. If you will notice it has Johnson with the comments on bullying. Why because she lies better than Clayton

Anonymous said...

She has never had a student in the district and never will, she has no personal feelings about 131-it is all business. If the business fails, she moves on.

There is a rumor that east is going to purchase the old police building on root street? For what and for how much?

Anonymous said...

They could lock up some of our administrators. We all know some of them should be.

Anonymous said...

The old police building is on the wrong side of the river. It also had a lot of issues that were going to cost more to fix than it was worth. We shouldn't be looking to purchase that place.

Anonymous said...

Rumor at the central office is that the state is pushing for East and West school districts to merge.

Anonymous said...

I hope they do. I would love the $20,000 salary increase.

Anonymous said...

It would be hard for the to purchase the building since they are in the process of tearing it down. Also from what I was told the land was donated to the city and it has to be turned into a park after they leave it.

Anonymous said...

The old police building is on the West Side of Aurora so the east side couldn't use it for a school not that they have enough brains to know that look at the run down building that they put the preschool in which also has mold in it.

Anonymous said...

The comment said-" purchase the old police building on root street? " Not River street. People please read before making comment.

Johnson has been pushing this since she pal-ed up with Roberts. Nothing more she'd like than to re-dedicate the bldg as the Roberts Magnet School.

Anonymous said...

That is the magnet school that was not to cost this district any money!! What a joke. Ah, but it is all in the image, right? Are the parents still taking their child to the magnet school and picking them up< or has the board found a way to transport the studentds now? That school is just to keep kids out of the main stream and not have to put up with what the main stream students do such as bullying.

East Aurora got stomped last night by West Aurora 73-42. It was embarrassing to watch. The Tomcats were not at all competitive. This brings the total record to, West Aurora 128 wins and East with only 87. The past 25-30 years in particular have been abysmal just like most of East Aurora Sports.

The only bright spot East Aurora Basketball has had is Ryan Boatright. I found it interesting to find out that Boatright had gone to school on the West Side for years. He only ended up on the East Side when West Aurora started checking the residency of their students. Boatright was one of the hundreds of East Aurora students that had been going to West Schools illegally. He was trained at Jewel Middle School.

Why can't we train our athlete's on the East Side? Why do they get to the high school without the skills necessary to be competitive? If image is as important to the district as they claim, when is someone going to address this? There is nothing as publicly visible as the sports programs. If they really want to improve the district image, that would be a great place to start.

Anonymous said...

I feel athletics does have a place in our schools, but our NJROTC is a good image maker. Academics would the best improvement for EA before sports or ANYthing.
Boatrights granddaddy taught him b'ball. West Aurora did not do well academically for him.

This was sent out to the district staff on Friday. It looks like our teams are more than competitive at the middle school level. So, the question is what is happening between middle school and high school?

Congratulations to the Cowherd Middle School 7th Grade Boys Basketball Team on their impressive win of the 2011 CITY OF LIGHTS TOURNAMENT CHAMPIONSHIP GAME. They defeated Jewel Middle School 31-25 to finish their season with a stellar 25-0 record! This is their third tournament championship title this season, which officially makes them the TRIPLE-CROWN COUGARS:

2011 Joliet West Basketball Tournament Champions!

2011 Plano Hardwood Classic Tournament Champions!

2011 City of Lights Tournament Champions!

Congratulations Cougars!

I also know that Waldo came in third place at the City of Lights Tounament. In fact, the only team they lost to all season was Cowherd.

Anonymous said...

NJROTC is a program for kids without a daddy.

Anonymous said...

Another off the wall, no basis comment. There are many children coming from 2 parent homes who are in NJROTC. In fact, quite a few have become Booster parents, Mom & Dad involvement.

Anonymous said...

The building on Root street was not a police building. They may have a a community police in there but there where also other groups in there.

Anonymous said...

Cowherd has had a bunch of top teams in the the city over the past couple of years. They have been in one championship game after another after another. The basketball team is just the latest. They haven't won every game but at least they have been very competitive. Where do their athlete's go after middle school.

Why, if they are competitive at the middle school, do they lose so horribly at the high school level? What's happening between the two levels? Do they transfer to the high school, and if so do they continue in sports? Do we have great coaches at the high school? Are they supported by the district?

Anonymous said...

Maybe they do not get what they need in that Freshman center. Which as far as I am concerned was a waste of money.

Anonymous said...

But former board member Malaker got a great price for his house in the deal.

No, Boys II Men is a program for kids without a daddy.

Yes, both of those programs have kids that need to be told what to do and not think for themselves.

aaaahhh!!!! Poor Mechelle needs to write bad things about the teacher to make herself look like the better person. Speaking about the MOLD my son who suffers from asthma told me at one point. That he is only sick at school UUMMMMM if this MOLD is true i will look for an attorney my son was in and out of the hospital "proof i have" because of the reaction. His grades were up and down and in high school he is in honors "WAIT" I know why there is no MOLD at the high school. the school put my son thro a health issue he suffered his 3 years of school at Simmons's and all because i didnt believe him. but who would if your kid said he was only feeling sick during school you would think he didnt like school. his teachers noticed he was always sick to and would call me to inform me about him being sick all i would say is that my son suffers from asthma im so stupied i should of looked into it... He is in a five year treatment has been on it for 16mths.

The Freshmen center was Marin's baby. She pushed that project thru as the fix all to many of the problems at the high school.

Our students (and our taxes)pay for bad decisions. The next few years we will feel the wave of the recent "choices."

Anonymous said...

Rumor is that east is going to buy the old police building on Root street from the city. Why and for how much?

Anonymous said...

The why I believe is for the Magnet School that was not supposed to cost this district any money. The how much will be what Johnson wants to spend, agter all it is the image, isn't it. After all this district is make of money, that is why they are going to try to sneack another referendum past us.

TO WHOMEVER WROTE THIS:

"Everyone who works at Simmons knows this teacher was written up long before the child had problems. In fact he was on track to be fired as a tenure teacher. He decided to call this parent and make trouble because of this. He could have cared less about the student only the fact he was so horrible he was getting fired at the end of the school year. He also had a drinking problem that prevented him from working all the time. There is also a large group of teachers that wrote the Beacon and are trying to get their side in the paper that Simmons is a great place to work. That is the real story.

December 16, 2011 10:24 PM"

YOU ARE SO FULL OF CRAP!!! THIS TEACHER DOES NOT DRINK - PERIOD! NOT EVEN SOCIALLY. SO YOU DON'T KNOW WHAT YOU ARE TALKING ABOUT.

I CAN PERSONALLY TELL YOU, AS AN ADMINISTRATOR FROM ANOTHER DISTRICT, THAT THE SITUATIONS INVOLVING THIS INCIDENT AND THE TREATMENT OF THIS TEACHER IS APPAULING! ALSO, AS A PROFESSOR AT THE UNIVERSITY LEVEL, MANY OF MY STUDENTS HAVE BROUGHT THIS TO LIGHT IN THE GRADUATE COURSES CLASSROOMS AND THE DISCUSSIONS ARE NEEDLESS TO SAY "ENLIGHTNING". IF THINGS LIKE THIS WERE TO HAPPEN IN "OTHER" DISTRICTS THIS WOULD NOT BE HAPPENING.

EACH TEACHER IS ENTITLED TO DUE PROCESS. THE SUSPENSION HAS NOTHING TO DO WITH THE ARTICLE ON THE BEACON, AND THE REASONS ARE JUST AN EXCUSE TO LOOK FOR SOMETHING TO GET THE GUY IN TROUBLE. ONCE AGAIN. PLAIN BULLYING BY THIS ADMINISTRATOR.

HAS THE ADMINISTRATOR BEEN LOOKING FOR A REASON TO SUSPEND THIS TEACHER? YES! HAS THIS TEACHER BEEN VIEWED BY THIS ADMINISTRATOR AS A "BAD APPLE"? YES! IS IT ALL FOR THE RIGHT REASONS? A RESOUNDING NO! PERSONAL AGENDA BY AN UNRULY ADMINISTRATOR. UNFORTUNATELY, THE REST OF THE STAFF IS TOO AFRAID TO GO TOE TO TOE WITH THE ADMINISTRATOR FOR FEAR OF LOSING THEIR JOBS... SAD THAT THERE CANNOT BE MORE JUSTICE FOR TEACHERS. I GUARANTEE YOU THIS WILL NOT END HERE.

FURTHERMORE, THIS TEACHER DESERVES BETTER THAN THIS.

he brings to the light what has been kept in the dark, far too long.

They voted to fire the teacher tonight. Guess they need a new construction manager more. Although I do not think there was this position before and just what new constructions? New referendum will he on the horizon for this.
Hope this teacher takes this district for all they are worth!!!!

December 19, 2011 4:47 PM If you really are a school administrator, you are educated enough to express your thoughts in a more professional manner. As everyone knows, posting in all caps is the internet version of yelling. Maybe your yelling was aimed at one person, but you yelled at everyone reading this post, including me. And I never said anything about this teacher, or this situation. I don't appreciate being yelled at for no reason. Is this the way you treat the teachers and students under you where you're an administrator? If so, I'm glad I don't work in that district.

Anonymous said...

The reason for the caps was to differenciate from the copy of the quote that was copied into the same post. Not intended to scream at you.

If you were the one that wrote that post I quoted, then you should get the facts straight. If you were not the person that I quoted, they please do not take offense to the caps, as the reason for them was meant as explained above.

In any case, the statement that I wrote is factual.

I have said my piece and will now remove myself from continuing to comment.

Boy’s family still angry over bullying incident

AURORA — Sylvia Caudillo sat anxiously in the audience of the East Aurora School Board meeting Monday night, determined to have her voice heard.

The angry aunt of a bullied Simmons Middle School student had three minutes or less to stand in the spotlight, and her speech had been timed to a T.

For months Caudillo has been seeking action from the district concerning an incident involving her nephew, a special education student. The boy’s pants, and boxers, had been pulled down in a gym class confrontation, which his family has called a sexual assault. The incident landed both boys in the principal’s office where they gave written statements.

The offender’s statement alleged that the whole thing was an accident. He was tripped, the statement said. And that was that. After his simply reply, Caudillo said, the boy was let go, and no disciplinary action was taken.

The victim’s mother, Maria Vega, angry that she was never notified by the school about the incident, was also furious that no punishment had been handed down. It’s impossible to fall and pull someone’s pants and underwear down, she said. Even Vega’s son had written that he didn’t believe the assault was an accident.

Last month Vega addressed the board with her concerns.

School Board President Annette Johnson confirmed that she and the board looked into the allegations, and found no evidence of misconduct by the administration.

According to Johnson, the district has taken the issue seriously, and followed an appropriate course of action concerning Vega’s complaint. This included consulting the district’s lawyer who determined no wrong action was taken involving the bullying incident.

Caudillo, Vega, and her son don’t agree.

Caudillo has alleged that statements supposedly made by her nephew appear to be written in someone else’s writing. She handed each board member copies of those statements during her three-minute presentation.

Most upsetting to Vega is the fact that her son was questioned twice by Simmons’administrators, without his mother contacted, or present. Phone records presented by Caudillo Monday night show that the school’s principal never attempted to contact the mother, or leave a message notifying her of the incident.

Caudillo said that according school policy, a parent must be notified by phone about the interrogation of their child. This should hold especially true when involving a special education student, she said.

“We were not called or informed of this situation (that my son was being bullied) by his own principal because she was worried about her reputation,” Vega wrote in her board statement.

At the three-minute mark, the board cut off Caudillo’s statement, and moved to the next item on the agenda. The board does not usually comment after such presentations.

Please update and modernize the District 131 website. It's poorly organized, lots of info is missing, and many pages seem to be perpetually "under construction". It's ridiculous.

As a new resident of the district, I was not able to find out if you have a preschool. Now I cannot find out if you have half-day or full-day kindergarden. Or if there are any busing options at all. Or what my options are considering NCLB and your schools.

Reason #3005 why our house is on the market.
