Continuing the money discussion

It seems like a lot of us like to discuss finances; there have been more than 200 postings on the previous thread in less than 3 weeks. So we'll refresh the topic, and continue the discussion!

  1. Maybe because money is such an emotional subject, especially in this difficult economy.

    Under "Major Expense Changes", the Payroll/Benefits for 2011-12 is $9,037,176. Projected Payroll/Benefits for 2012-13, 2013-14, 2014-15, and 2015-16 averaged around $4,500,000 per year.

    Why would this year's payroll and benefits be TWICE AS MUCH as any other year listed? That is indeed a "major expense change"!

    ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
    Could that 9 million dollars in "payroll/benefits" be covering up the expenses for the Bob Green case??
  3. Still can't see the list of bills in the minutes of Sept, 19 2011 even though they where approved.
    ReplyDelete
  4. Bob Greens legal fees are probably under legal fees in the list of bills they have nothing to hide about that since you can see that he filed a complaint and won it of The IL State Board Website. Also if you don't believe it FOIA the legal fees to find out or are you afraid to do that. You could also FOIA the whole spreadsheet to see why there is such a difference for 2011-2012.
  5. Under "Differentials" it says that Brian Liska is getting $7,330.00 for being the pit director for the musical, in addition to other stipends for senior class advisor and band director.
    Wow--that's a LOT of money for just doing the pit, unless they're rehearsing every day after school & weekends for at least 5 or 6 months. Doing the math:
    At a pay rate of $50.00 per hour (which may seem exorbitant, but expertise deserves to be rewarded), $7,330.00 would pay for 146 hours of work. That works out to more than 20 7-hour school days, or the equivalent of four full weeks (Monday through Friday) working on NOTHING BUT THE PIT FOR THE MUSICAL.
    Or more realistically, if the pit director devotes 2 hours of his time after school every school day to the musical, with 4 hours per school day during the last 2 weeks before the show that would involve 53 DAYS AFTER SCHOOL for two hours/day and 10 days at 4 hours/day.
    Maybe he needs to spend some time rewriting parts, so allow 10 hours or so for that and we're still paying for 136 hours OUTSIDE THE SCHOOL DAY, above & beyond the regular salary, at $50.00 per hour.
    How is this a wise use of our tax dollars?
    ReplyDelete
  6. I thought "The Wiz" was the fall musical--maybe I'm mistaken, and they're doing it in April and starting to rehearse the pit now. If so, then maybe it does make sense to pay the conductor for 146 hours of work at $50.00/hour.
    ReplyDelete
  7. Someone should look into how much they are spending on I phones & I pads all of the district employees have them.
    They still have not posted the updated test scores or administrator salaries also and the check register.
    Anita Lewis likes to take credit for the check register and she is the board secretary so why not ask her.
    All of them just vote yes to whatever Johnson says so really she could get it done but is probably the one saying don't post it some board. Hull is to busy with his daughter and the other ones are to busy socializing that d131. Johnson is Hitler
    ReplyDelete
  8. 8:58 a.m., "The Wiz" is the week before Thanksgiving. They've already started rehearsing it.
    Poor Mr. Liska must be camping out on the band room floor in order to put in all those 146 hours (at $50 per hour) working on just the pit orchestra. Or maybe it's 73 hours at $100.00 per hour?
    ReplyDelete
  9. Life is good when you are one of the administrators fortunate ones. Other teachers are getting paid about $3or $4 an hour doing the extra duties that the students need. It really pisses people off when they hear about others getting paid extravagant amounts. At least try to give the illusion that compensation is equal.
    ReplyDelete
  10. Johnson is Hitler but the other Board members are just there to say they are good people or what they can get.
    Look at Gonzalez her daughter got a job last year worked part time and got paid full time. Yes she does not work for the district but she got a better job at west aurora. Jerome must have called in a favor.
    Then there is Hull constantly sending treating letters to the teachers at East and copying Roberts, Adams and Conrad. He is buying his daughter good grades.
    Cervantes thinks he is the new Martin Luther King of the Hispanic community. Is is already to run for Mayor so he says. He has got a long way alderman may be good for him because he is so good at voting yes just like the city.
    Tursa and Leonard are so senile they can't think of a board comment.
    Lewis is off giving and approving of Liska and has turned into a yes machine for Johnson.
    Johnson is so full of herself she only cares about image that is how Hitler was
    ReplyDelete
  11. It is ludicrous for administration to expect taxpayers to open their wallets and donate thousands of dollars to "Help Our Students Excel" (H.O.S.E.), when so much money is being wasted on things like the approximately $100.00 per hour paid to the director of the pit for the musical. Most people in this district earn at the most $20.00 per hour (if they're lucky; many don't have a job at all).
    No wonder the folks at the Central Office delayed putting those minutes online. They wanted to keep the public in the dark as long as possible so maybe some would donate. Too bad the cat's out of the bag now.
    ReplyDelete
  12. And all of you here will be at the meetig Monday?
    ReplyDelete
  13. Let us not forget the money being paid on I pad's additional help for Clayton. Martinez was off for over a month paid because his wife had a baby you would think he had it. Ford is a ghost payroller and they all have I phones for personal use well the rest of the tax payers pay there own cell phone bill.
    ReplyDelete
  14. Kevin got the same stipend. You just dont like Liska so you nit pick everything.
    ReplyDelete
  15. We don't know if K got paid as much as the Liska so I can't really comment on that but I do think that a high poverty district pays a lot for musical and a director for it. While people in our district struggle with feeding their families and keeping their homes we pay teachers this extra for these things. Also, if we can pay this why do our teachers have to take money out of their pockets for supplies for children in the classrooms. Let's not forget the retreats the administrators take and the food they get before board meetings or any of the food they order for whatever reason they want. There is also the food for supplies in the list of bills.
    ReplyDelete
  16. Just because you are poor does not mean everybody has to be.
    ReplyDelete
  17. I didn't say I was poor I said that that many in this district are going through hard times and it is known for a high poverty district and we get a lot of money because of that from the State and Federal government. In fact this district thrives on this with having a large Hispanic community that the district gets money for. We keep these students in ELL for longer than most district because of the money we get so the administration can misuse it. Many districts are starting new programs to get their students out of ELL to help them get out of poverty but not ours. With a 26% graduation rate I don't think we are doing the best we can to get them out of poverty.
    ReplyDelete
  18. So you mean if you are in the public sector and an administrator you can get high wages even though you don't do good at your job? I wonder if some employees of this district that don't live here like how their districts spend money?
    ReplyDelete
  19. So everyone posting here will be at the meeting Monday to voice their opinion to the board or just to be in attendance to find out what is goint on?
    ReplyDelete
  20. None of them will. Of course, I won't be either.
    ReplyDelete
  21. 6:43 p.m. said:
    "Kevin got the same stipend. You just dont like Liska so you nit pick everything"
    WRONG on both counts!
    I don't know exactly how much Mr. Kaisershot was paid to direct the pit, but I am absolutely sure it wasn't $100.00 (or even $50.00) per hour. You can bet that such an exorbitant amount would have been challenged then as it is now.
    And this discussion has nothing to do with liking or not liking anyone. It's about getting value for our money. If the choreographer or costumer for the musical was being paid an extravagant amount, it would be noticed and criticized as well.
    ReplyDelete
  22. How can you say WRONG - To Kaisershot got paid the same ammount and then say "I don't know how much he got paid."
    HOW CAN YOU SAY BOTH OF THOSE STATMENTS. HOW STUPID ARE YOU. You can't say something is wrong and then say I DON'T KNOW.
    ReplyDelete
  23. As far as Martinez being off on leave because his wife had a baby that is because of The Family Leave Act and that is a law the district has to follow but I do think the district can chose to pay him or not.
    I do believe that paying someone $100.00 or $50.00 a hour for a school musical is too much. But hey this district is doing better than most around us so why not just give our taxpaying dollars away.
    ReplyDelete
  24. 8:46, you misquoted me. I did NOT say "I don't know how much he got paid". I said the following:
    "I don't know exactly how much Mr. Kaisershot was paid"
    Big difference, 8:46!
    I do NOT know the EXACT dollars-and-cents amount. I DO know, however, that it was not $100 per hour--because if it had been it would have been mentioned & criticized, perhaps by one of the bullies.
    And as far as I remember Mr. K NEVER spent a dime on bringing in additional adult musicians to the pit. Last year there were TWO adult "ringers" (in addition to the rehearsal accompanist)--and you can bet they DID NOT work for free!
    ReplyDelete
  25. Wrong - But the truth does not matter because you don't understand the truth.
    There were not TWO adult musicians last year. There were ZERO last year. (Mrs. Allen does not count BECAUSE SHE IS ALWAYS IN THE PIT, ALWAYS, ALWAYS)
    TWO years ago there was an extra piano player (and east high does not teach piano) and there was ONE guitar player PLAYING ALONG SIDE of TWO EAST HIGH GUITAR PLAYERS.
    What is wrong with that? What is wrong with that is you are a bitch and can't see past your own stupidity.
    I don't know if you are stupid, but you are.
    ReplyDelete
  26. And by the way k had a lot of adult musicians in the pits with him. Just so you know. WAY more than 2.
    ReplyDelete
  27. 10:07, NAME ONE.
    And while you're at it, HOW MUCH MONEY WAS SPENT TO HIRE THEM???
    ReplyDelete
  28. 10:02 a.m., I guess I'm off by a year. There were (by your own admission) 2 adult musicians HIRED (yes, PAID, for MONEY) two years ago.
    ReplyDelete
  29. Yup, they were. GET OVER IT.
    ReplyDelete
  30. I don't have to name one - I don't need proof just like none of you need proof that 1 out of 7 years 2 extra adults have been in the pit. WOW - OH MY GOSH - IS THE END OF THE WORLD NEAR.
    Listen to how petty and stupid you are.
    ReplyDelete
  31. And 10:02 a.m., you are correct that East High does not teach piano.
    Which is why for many years Mrs. K. VOLUNTEERED her services playing piano for the jazz band, alongside of East High piano players. This was while a pianist (Mrs. Allen) was HIRED to play for the choral program, and a separate pianist (at the time it was Vicay Lauderdale) was HIRED to play for the musical.
    But Mr. K bringing in his wife to play piano with the jazz band was twisted around by the bullies and used as one of the reasons to get rid of him.
    Part of the illustrious history of the EHS music program, like it or not!
    ReplyDelete
  32. Is the end of the world near??
    Maybe so, maybe not.
    But hopefully the end of the gravy train is near, for anyone who thinks they're worth $100.00 an hour in our district.
    ReplyDelete
  33. Why are you talking about the Jazz Band. SHUT UP ALREADY
    ReplyDelete
  34. You still can't see the list of bills for 9/16,2011 even though the minutes are approved.
    ReplyDelete
  35. Call Lewis the check register was her idea
    ReplyDelete
  36. 12:11, why NOT talk about the jazz band?
    ReplyDelete
  37. How about talking about putting some surveillance cameras in East High, since there are a lot of thefts going on recently. Specifically, students have had iPods, cash, and instruments stolen.
    ReplyDelete
  38. Maybe the students shouldn't bring there IPhones to school and how is the cash being stolen are they keeping it in their lockers? If they are they might want to keep it in their pockets.
    ReplyDelete
  39. If we're discussing the finances of our district, it makes a LOT of sense to talk about the jazz band, 12:11 p.m.!
    According to the EHS band website, the jazz band IS THE PIT for this year's show.
    That would mean that most of the rehearsing for the pit takes place DURING THE SCHOOL DAY, during jazz band class time.
    Isn't that "double-dipping", since the band director is already paid for those jazz band rehearsals?
    And how does that $7,330.00 break down into actual hours worked??
    ReplyDelete
  40. And you all will be at the meeting Monday?
    ReplyDelete
  41. Has anyone read the agenda for the meeting Monday and the response to the person who spoke before the board? That person is and was a social worker in this district. She gave the impression she does not speak English and needed an interperator. Read the response. As far as I am concerned that social worker should be fired.This district spends enough money on bilingual as it is. What about the other ethnic groups? Where are the interperters for them? Oh, that is right, they bring their own and also learn the English language and do not expect special attention as the Hispancics do. Enough is enough. Shame, shame, shame on that social worker. She does speak English and she is just showing who she favors!!!
    ReplyDelete
  42. The teachers at East are so stupid maybe she needed at translator.
    ReplyDelete
  43. I do like the last part of Ms. Johnson's letter to the social worker who asked about interpreters. Ms. Johnson suggested that one possible solution might be to have EHS students who are fully bilingual earn service hours by volunteering as translators.
    That's an idea that was suggested a couple of weeks ago ON THIS BLOG. Could be just coincidence--sometimes grEAt minds think alike!
  44. From an article in today's Beacon:
    “Good job!”
    “Well done!”
    “Thanks a bunch!”
    If you ask the Rev. Zach Montroy, East Aurora School Board members simply aren’t using these phrases enough — and they certainly weren’t using them last month while addressing a drop in high school test scores.
    “Obviously there are standards, and the schools are held accountable, but there was no mention of the teachers that have gone above and beyond,” said Montroy, an East Side resident who is pastor of Ginger Creek Community Church. “We need to focus on encouraging them and pointing out the difference they’re making … .
    “The human spirit needs confirmation that what it’s doing is worthwhile.”
    While he and wife Jacki have no children of their own, the couple works to mentor vulnerable and fatherless children throughout the district. Montroy said he is aware of the social and economic challenges facing the students in East Aurora, and that he sees teachers addressing those needs daily.
    “I have not met a single teacher who doesn’t go above and beyond for our kids,” Montroy said, and he wants to make that known.
    ReplyDelete
  45. Wow, 10:23 p.m.--when you consider the double-dipping, maybe he's actually getting paid +$200/hour to conduct the pit!
    And the administration really expects the public to donate to the H.O.P.E campaign when THIS is how they spend our tax dollars?
    ReplyDelete
  46. Maybe, Maybe NOT.
    You know who might actually KNOW - The band director - maybe you should contact him.
    Nah, you're too lazy.
    ReplyDelete
  47. Rev. Zach Montroy said it well. The part about the tutoring and the student getting into the main stream is good. We all know this district likes to keep the ELL in the program for a long time because of the money they receive from that program. The board has done things but as far as the Smartboards many districts have gotten away from them they don't make students smarter they are just another tool for learning. It is just the new way for teachers to project information from their laptops for the students to see.
    I think the response letter in Monday's board packet was good. This lady was out of line. When no English speaking parents start coming to the board meetings they will have a translator there since we have so many Bilingual teachers and Administrators or as someone said a student who wants to earn extra credits.
    I see the list of bills is still not showing for 9/16/2011.
    ReplyDelete
  48. So some of you can't handle the truth of how people see how this district is ran. We have a broad that is now doing the superintendents job and can't even make sure that the board minutes get on the district website by the time the law states they should be on or follow through after Lewis got them to put the check register on it.
    The article in The Beacon was a good one and I give credit to Mr.Montroy for standing up because all the other people that complain on this blog and elsewhere are too afraid to stand up in front of the board and do anything.
    ReplyDelete
  49. Zach Montroy wife teaches at d131 and to sit there and say test scores are not important just show how screwed up East is. I guess everyone should get a pat on the back for a lousy job. I wish my boss thought the same. BTW Zach is Marin Gonzalez pastor could their be some sour grapes here
    ReplyDelete
  50. Hey October 14, 2011 9:23 AM
    She is not a teacher but a social worker.
    Where does it say in the article that test scores are not important? You need to learn how to read.
    ReplyDelete
  51. As for testing, Johnson said the scores are not the “focus of (the) board, but a guide that help determine whether or not schools are progressing.”
    The above was in the article and it is the same as saying not important.
    ReplyDelete
  52. a guide that help determine whether or not schools are progressing.
    It was Johnson that said that not Montroy. How does that say they are not important. That says they do look at them to see if the schools are making progress. The high school scores dropped. We all know that.
    Please tell mew how you would combat students from finishing a 60 question test in 5 minutes?
    This isn't every student but there are a lot of students that do this. They do not have a buy in to a test that is a college ready test. Most of the students do not go on to college so they do not take the test seriously.
    ReplyDelete
  53. 8:49 a.m. says:
    "Why bother verifying"
    Some things do not need verifying--such as the PUBLISHED FACT that the band director is receiving a stipend of $7,330.00 for directing the pit for the musical, and the PUBLISHED FACT that the Jazz Band is the pit for the musical.
    As usual, your side's response to these FACTS is twofold: denial and distraction.
    My response as a taxpayer to these FACTS is outrage at how our tax dollars are being wasted.
    ReplyDelete
  54. So I am curious. How much did Mr. K get paid for being a pit director? Anyone know where to find that information?
    ReplyDelete
  55. But the FACT is you do not KNOW what Mr. Liska's role in the musical is - You are assuming that the two published pieces of information is ALL the information and thay may not be true.
    Get it - maybe there are 5 pieces of information and you only know 2 of them. Maybe those are the only 2 and then you might have a right to be angry - but until you find out ALL of the FACTS you are just spreading lies and half-truths.
    I really don't see any "denial and distraction" in any of what has been posted - just requests to STOP TELLING HALF-TRUTHS and find out all the information.
    Again - you are too lazy.
    ReplyDelete
  56. This blog reminds me of "Chicken Little" - the sky is falling, the sky is falling. No facts, just hysteria.
    ReplyDelete
  57. WHAT -
    Now the sky is falling?
    Oh what a world, when will all of this stop.
    I bet it's Clayton, Roberts, Johnson, Liska, Farakahn, and Lewis' fault
    ReplyDelete
  58. 10:41, feel free to enlighten & educate us with the facts as YOU claim to know them.
    Or are YOU too "lazy"??
    ReplyDelete
  59. 10:26, you could ask him.
    ReplyDelete
  60. Montrey is a fool to many students do not graduate or go onto college the High School has many teachers who have given up. It is not the boards place to be cheer leader.
    ReplyDelete
  61. No it is not the board duty to do that but they have stepped in and taken over what the Superintendent should be doing. If one mentor can help one student get through school then that is a plus. For the teachers that have given up why not go to another district where you might be an asset to the students? OH, but wait you won't because you have tenure here and don't want to lose that so you will stay collect your money and then your pension and not even try to change things.
    ReplyDelete
  62. Mr Montroy did not disclose that his wife Jackie works for the District at East. I am sure she may not want to hear bad things about her department but truth be told the guidance department at East is horrible. I sounds like emotions between a husband and wife not about the kids
    ReplyDelete
  63. Montroy and his wife mentor one family the Robinson's and article was in the Beacon last year about them it appears this family has serious problems maybe he should spend a little more time on that
    ReplyDelete
  64. Remember that when this district asks for another referendum about how much they pay a pit director, the money they spend on food for meetings. I heard that one of the administrator's even took some retirees out for a dinner now why wouldn't that be done by the Superintendent. There is also a rumor the administration had some retreats this summer at a golf club and again a lunch. Should our district start pulling in the purse strings like others that aren't getting the money they used to and cutting things or are you willing to give them more in a referendum?
    ReplyDelete
  65. I didn't vote for the last one and I certainly will not vote for one now.
    ReplyDelete
  66. 9:07 p.m., I didn't either. Mostly because I couldn't trust the administration to use the money wisely when they had a record of giving the public the middle finger in years past.
    But I'm a homeowner, and you probably are too. One main reason the referendum passed in 2008 (after having failed the three previous times it had been on the ballot) is because of the Presidential election. Thousands of public housing residents turned out to vote for President (as is, of course, their right)--and while they were in the voting booth voted "YES" to a referendum THEY KNEW THEY WOULDN'T HAVE TO PAY FOR.
    Don't be surprised if this time next year they try it again. But forewarned is forearmed--and as the saying goes, "fool me once shame on you; fool me twice shame on ME".
    ReplyDelete
  67. The stipend for the football coach is 10,000. Stipends are over and above the instructors and coaches salary. Every band teacher and coach in every districts receive them so let it go.
    ReplyDelete
  68. The stipends for extra duties are generally spelled out in the teacher's contract, often based on a certain percentage of the teacher's base pay. The percentages are based on the relative amount of extra work involved. So the head football coach gets a higher percentage than an assistant football coach. And coaches of sports that involve a longer season or more intensive workload (such as more kids per coach, or more events per week, etc.) get a higher percentage than those w/ a shorter season or easier workload. If an extra duty assignment is more a short term or limited kind of thing (like running the clock/scoreboard at a basketball game, etc.) it's more likely to be an hourly position rather than a stipend position. So I'd expect running the pit for the musical is a stipend, because then you know what it's going to cost. If you do it hourly, it could cost less (if it's able to be done w/ fewer hours than expected) or more (if it takes longer hours). The truth is for most of those stipend positions (like coaches) the individual would make more money by being paid hourly, because the positions almost always take more time than you think they would.
    ReplyDelete
  69. As taxpayers we don't have to let it go we need to make sure that the stipends that are given are fair and I really don't think the one for the Musical is. They will have another Musical in the spring will he get that much and it isn't about who is doing it it is about the money. Yes, every district gives them but we don't know the amount and it seems that our district since we have more money then most these days likes to throw it around. What is going to happen when we don't have all that money?
    ReplyDelete
  70. Anyone see the band's last halftime show performance last night?
    ReplyDelete
  71. Rumor is the football coach called it quits last game anybody hear
    ReplyDelete
  72. IF you think that sports is all about winning, the FB program called it quits years ago. Just over the last 6 years we've only won 4 games (IF we beat Bartlett next week) for a 7% win percentage. The last winning season was Tamberelli's first at 5-4. But there are other sports (such as soccer) who are doing quite well.
    Personally, I don't think H.S. sports SHOULD be all about winning. It should be about teaching important lessons about character, work ethic, etc. which aren't always reflected in the won/lost record. I'm not involved in the program, so I can only hope those lessons are being taught.
    ReplyDelete
  73. WOW, you guys are such hypocrites.
    ReplyDelete
  74. 8:22 a.m., the EHS band director stipend is the same as the head football coach: slightly more than $10,000.00. THAT IS NOT BEING DISPUTED.
    What is being disputed is the ADDITIONAL stipend of $7,330.00, JUST FOR CONDUCTING THE PIT for the fall musical. That's what seems ridiculous, especially when broken down on a per-hour basis.
    And how is rehearsing the pit music during Jazz Band (during the school day) NOT double-dipping?
    ReplyDelete
  75. In the immortal words of Vince Lombardi " Winning isn't everything, it's the only thing".
    Success Breeds Success.
    We shouldn't just be teaching our kids to be gracious losers, we should be teaching them to be gracious winners.
    The sports programs needs a total overhaul from top to bottom.
    ReplyDelete
  76. It's not being disputed, it's being bitched about.
    ReplyDelete
  77. And it SHOULD be disputed, bitched about, discussed, complained about, and objected to (along with whatever other synonyms you can come up with)--because it is absolutely ridiculous to pay $7,330.00 for someone to conduct the pit for the fall musical.
    Especially when much of the rehearsal time is during the school day, during Jazz Band.
    We should be using our money WISELY, not extravagantly overspending like this.
    ReplyDelete
  78. Johnson when she ran for office was one to complain about how tax money was spent and her and her neighbors complained a lot about it. Lewis also was one that wanted to watch how money was spent and look at them now it's as if the money is free and can spend it without checking. I bet they really don't take time to look at the list of bills or the credit cards. Should food be a supply or meeting expense? Should our administration really go our to restaurants for working lunches?
    ReplyDelete
  79. I am not familiar with the present EA football coach or his techniques. My son had Tamberelli. He was always preparing them for a win and they took the losses graciously. He was tough, but he had heart. My son and I both had much respect for him. The problem is-no matter how great the coach, just like the teachers, if you have players/ students who do not commit to the goal, you cannot succeed.
    Some of these young people have jobs and family commitments that take them from the classroom and the field. Until the guardians put more emphasis on the young persons need to succeed, our coaches and teachers are struggling to win at their jobs. The reason the B'ball & soccer teams are doing so well, many times those families have put the sport above all else including academics. The school has guidelines about players being required to be passing before playing. Good plan, but not if the student is doing the minimum to qualify. If all the parents/guardians would be as enthusiastic about their students coursework as they are their athletic skills it would be a win for all in EA.
    ReplyDelete
  80. 8:07 your first para is EXACTLY the kind of thing I was talking about. That sounds like what H.S. athletics SHOULD be. The second para though seems to indicate that part of the program is NOT what it should be, if the emphasis is on winning and just barely passing classes. The part about passing your classes on a week-by-week basis is actually not a school program per se, it's an IHSA requirement. Some schools may get a bit more agressive. I work in another district, and even if a kid stays eligible, if his grades are getting too low he gets assigned to a mandatory after school study session, and then goes to practice late. If he ISN'T eligible because he's actually failing one or more classes, he gets mandatory study sessions and can't practice.
  81. Hull has been emailing teachers at East and reminding them he is on the board that is just plain wrong. Why is it Roberts allows Hull and Lewis to run teachers in the ground and goto the schools and inter-act. I remember when he brought another board members up on charges with the board president at the time Farnum. Could it be that he and Johnson look the other way because they always vote yes and the other board member that was brought up on these charges always voted no.
    Both Lewis and Hull having troubled kids on got kicked out of Aurora Christian the other is always in fights yet the teachers are to blame why are the teachers not going to the union.
    ReplyDelete
  82. If Hull is sending teachers letters the Board President should be telling him to stop but this board doesn't act like a real board. How come the union doesn't do anything or better yet contact the State Board of Education about it. If enough people complain the State will start listening just like they did with district 189.
  84. If any teachers have received e-mails or letters from Mr. Hull (or any School Board member), they should save them so there will be a record of whatever was done illegally or improperly.
  85. Another Board meeting another vote yes session for the members. Roberts controls the Board he spends the day playing politics. It is interesting to note Hull spent the morning with him. I wonder if Johnson knows Roberts is plotting behind her back.
    The pay off for Hull is a free education for his daughter. The right teachers get assigned to her wink wink so she gets passed along. That means a free education and scholarships. Roberts needs a new Juanita Wells and it seems Hull is that after all one brother takes care of another.
    All you have to do is run for the Board and Roberts will pay off just like he paid off for Wells, Farnum and company.
    Time fr the State to take over
  86. Johnson and Roberts fight all the time he is really tied of her pushing him around. Central Office just laughs. Leonard was in four times in the last three weeks. So was Cervantes visiting Clayton. Lewis also came in one afternoon for him. Of course Gonzalez and Turza have been vacationing again. So like Roberts has stuck to his other colleagues he is sticking it to Johnson. Maybe next time he really will call the police on her.
  87. Central Office is taking bets Roberts and Johnson are both dirt bags. The bet is they will get each other maybe literally ??????? The show goes on and it is not about the education of the children of d131
    ReplyDelete
  88. Central Office needs to get busy and do their jobs. They need to quit getting snacks for their meetings and get to work because they could be replaced. I bet they couldn't even get a job in another district or anywhere else since they can't do a spreadsheet and all they know is to get snacks for a meeting.
  89. why does this blog have such a hard-on for Liska? I haven't seen a single collection of posts that didn't bring him up (negatively). If this particular bitch-fest was really about the money (and not just another way to belittle Liska to the point that he quits), then what needs to be addressed is the contract where stipends are decided and the fact that ALL stipends increase from year to year. Which means that after 20-some years, you can bet your a$$ that Kaisershot got paid more for directing the pit than Liska is getting paid today. And personally, I agree that it is too much. But why be so negative about Liska? It's not like he has ANYTHING to do with the stipends!
    And please don't try the old defense (we aren't attacking Liska, we're attacking the administration) because snarky comments like this : "Poor Mr. Liska must be camping out on the band room floor" (Oct 12, 2:45) are clearly a shot at the man himself. Personally, I would have quit years ago. You people are like...well, I can't even think of a good analogy because nothing else in the animal world anonymously attacks another creature over and over and over (and over and over and over) for no reason other than a prejudicial dislike that was formed before even meeting the guy! Only humans are that petty. And it's usually kids in middle school...and cowards on this blog.
    ReplyDelete
  90. I was on the Band Boosters in 2004-2005, when we were fighting with the administration to keep Mr. Kaisershot. I'm one who also had a sign in my yard--so I admit that I had (and still have) a definite "attitude" towards that decision. I do not have any animosity towards Mr. Liska, because he was not directly responsible. The administrators are another story!
    I remember that some of us felt that administration was trying to save money by getting rid of Mr. K (that it would be cheaper to get a new, younger band director). We looked at exactly how much he was being paid, including stipends. As I recall, the amount K was paid for conducting the musical was around $3,500,00--or less than HALF the amount currently paid for pit conductor. AND my son was in that pit, so I can tell you that they did not rehearse during jazz band (or any time during the school day)--so there was no double dipping.
    Looks like I still have my A$$, 4:39 a.m.--how's yours??
    ReplyDelete
  91. Yes, it is time to move on about this band thing. Moving people around happens in most business but here it seems they just can't understand it. Maybe it was time for a change and the kids really wanted the marching band. Lives more on and there are other things that the administration does that should concern you we should be looking after all students not just the band.
    ReplyDelete
  92. This blog is the only place where it indicated Mr. Liska was "double dipping" - has that been verified or is it like everything else on this blog - half truths/mostly lies. Below is the salaries paid to Mr. K since 1999 - 1999 44768
    2000 46631
    2001 50519
    2002 58707
    2003 73797
    2004 70316
    2005 84877
    2006 66929
    2007 71817
    2008 75073
    2009 78551
    2010 80868
    Granted he was at his highest in 2005 - but according to the website this includes stipeneds which would amount to $17,948 in stipends if compared to his 2006 salary (which as someone else indicated does go up each year) - so by my way of thinking Mr. K is doing just fine - wish I was making $80,868 a year. My life would be quite a bit easier that is for sure. Especially since my husband was laid off.
    Mr. Liska's in comparison:
    2006 43911
    2007 46540
    2008 51206
    2009 54106
    2010 56776
    So I am not sure "saving money" was really an incentive - don't know but looking at the salaries, they certainly didn't save much money.
    ReplyDelete
  93. 7:48 a.m., the "double-dipping" thing refers to the director being paid for rehearsing the pit, when he is using time during the school day (Jazz Band class time) for which he is already compensated.
  94. this blog will never move on. They have a bug up their a$$ and won't let go. Rather than finding ways to improve the District and the education of their kids, they keep mourning something that happened 6 years ago. They say they bring it up so it isn't forgotten. By this time most people would have moved on but not the small narrow minded people who started and continue to run this blog -- and yes RayAnn I mean you. You fought a good fight but lost. Why don't you start picking on some of the other teachers who have large stipends? Ross Wheeler in 2010 got $6560 for Musical Artistic Director and $6560 for Drama.- I know he isn't doing it this year but he would be getting $7330 as Musical Artistic Director and $7330 for Drama. Yet nobody brings that one up. Did he "double dip"? This blog doesn't care. All it cares about is Mr. K and bringing down Mr. L.
    Here are some more stipends from 2010 that no one questioned.
    Child Service Center
    Suzanne Bement-Withrow
    Coordinator $6,277.00
    Connie Diederich
    Coordinator $8,204.00
    Erin Jones
    Coordinator $5,323.00
    Amber Larson
    Coordinator $6,277.00
    Susan Leef
    Coordinator $5,323.00
    Karen Lotito
    Coordinator $4,836.00
    Jeanne Rennie
    Coordinator $7,241.00
    Melissa Speicher Lind
    Coordinator $5,783.00
    Heather Webb
    Coordinator $4,836.00
    Mary Lou Wilson
    Coordinator $8,204.00
    What do "Coordinators" for Child Care need a stipend for? Just asking??
    Last question RayAnn (or the person you say replaced you on this blog) -- if Mr. L leaves, do you think they will rehire Mr. K as Dream on - that ship has sailed. They would just get in a new band director (maybe one just graduated). Think about that one as you continue to spout off and cry foul. I do not know Mr. L or Mr. K. I also do not know what you are accomplishing with this continued harassment.
  95. I'm the one who originally brought up the issue of the pit director stipend on this thread. The main reason I mentioned it was because we were discussing the FINANCES of our district. Specifically, I wanted to show how the administration overspends and misuses our tax dollars, and I used that particular expense as one major example.
    The administration wants taxpayers and community members to dig deep in their pockets and donate $165,000.00 to help students excel. WHO is going to oversee how this money is spent--the same folks who authorize paying more than $100.00/hour for a pit director? And in an economy where many have either lost their jobs or have taken pay cuts??
    As was mentioned before, this is NOT about a specific person. If the choreographer or costumer for the musical were paid in excess of $100.00 per hour, that would be equally outrageous. It's about getting VALUE FOR OUR MONEY.
    ReplyDelete
  96. IT IS ABOUT A SPECIFIC PERSON BECAUSE YOU ARE TALKING ABOUT FINANCES AND BRING UP ONE EXAMPLE.
    YOU ARE SUCH A LIAR TO SAY IT IS NOT ABOUT ONE PERSON. LIAR LIAR LIAR.
    Like someone already said, your "team" seems to favor distraction and denial when faced with unpleasant, verifiable facts.
    And by the way, I am NOT Rayanne. Rayanne's a friend of mine, but our writing styles are totally different.
  98. 8:25 a.m., good point about the child care coordinators. How do these stipends break down on a per-hour basis? If they work through the entire school year then it probably works out to maybe $15-$20/hour. But if it's only a few weeks at $100.00+ per hour, it would be just as exorbitant as the pit director.
    ReplyDelete
  99. You want waste? How about Dr. Roberts who made $253,726.22 last year. That comes out to $4,879.35 every week (including vacation time). That's basically $122 every hour for a 40 hour week.
    Just imagine what we could do with that type of money for our children.
    ReplyDelete
  102. 10:58 a.m., do you read as poorly as you spell? 7:24 a.m. was there as a Booster in 2004-2005, and stated that according to their research Mr. K's stipend for the musical was LESS THAN HALF of the current amount.
    And "the most glaring example"-- can YOU give any other examples of over $100.00/hour stipends? No? Didn't think so.
    It's not about hate. It's about how this district spends our tax dollars.
    ReplyDelete
  103. It does seem that one person continues to bring up just one person when talking about money spent and how someone was done wrong when there are many example of misuse of money like stipends. Every committee also gets one they hand them out like candy. This district also breaks the law with how some of the money was spent. How about Wells who got an IPhone from the district and a free three nights stay at a hotel last Nov. and the nice supper they all had some of these things are against the IL School Code.
    So I have to agree there are many other examples of money mis spent but the few that can't get past the k thing can only see that and I think one of them needs medical attention because they can't let go.
  104. The administration definitely plays favorites as far as giving certain people whatever they want to keep them happy. That goes back to "Serial Bully" Radakovich taking the School Board to California (with family members) on our dime, spending thousands of dollars on unnecessary landscaping, fancy dinners & perks under the table.
    Just business as usual here in D131.
    ReplyDelete
  105. Unfortunately there are no records around from 2005 so it is impossible to determine what the stipend was at that time. However the 2010 stipend for the pit was $6560 -- an increase of $770 - so if the stipend was increased $770 each year, then $3500 sounds correct for 2005. I am not saying that it isn't too high. What I am saying is that you are comparing 2005 budget to 2011 budget -- 6 years difference.
    ReplyDelete
  106. If you can get proof that Radakovich did that you can go to the States Attorney with it because if district members take some one they have to pay and if it can be proven that some that went wasn't a benefit to the district that is against the law. When did this trip to California take place?
    Classification I: High School Ticket
    Manager High School Speculum Classification J: High School Head Basketball High School Band Director
    I didn't see anything in the list about pit director.
    Also I do believe a stipend and a differential are two different things.
    ReplyDelete
  111. When looking at Kaisershot's salaries over the years, keep in mind that generally middle school teachers are on a lower pay scale than high school teachers, and elementary teachers are even lower than middle school teachers. So that big drop in K's salary from 2005 to 2006 was partly due to the loss of stipends, but also partly from shifting from the high school pay scale to the middle school pay scale. (I am making an assumption here, because I work in another school district and I know that's how it works here and and many other districts). And no, I'm not K, or L, or a member of either camp w/ an ax to grind. I'm a parent who had 2 kids play for K (and Bill Tripp) and 1 play for L. They all had a great experience. In fact, my youngest had L stand up for her at the 10% banquet.
I taught his daughter last year and I haven't met a nicer man. The people making up these stories have never met Mr. Hull or his daughter because you wouldn't be able to make up the things you are spreading. Not only did he never bring up being on the board, he told me to expect more of his daughter and treat her like she was my own. To construct these stories actually says more about you than him. Since when is it wrong for a parent to stand beside their child. I'm sure you wont believe me but his daughter didn't need any help from me or anyone else. She was a pleasure to have in class and you could tell she was actually out of place in this environment. If I question anything it would be why he let her come here.
  116. Teacher salaries are equal at all levels throughout the district. It doesn't matter if you teach high, middle or elementary school when it comes to salary, teachers are paid the same. However, it's not so when it comes to stipends/differentials.
    For differentials, it's much better to be at the high school. The high school teachers can boost the salaries by 5 figures by doing a couple of differential positions. At the middle school and elementary levels, teachers would have to sponsor 5-10 clubs/teams to get to the 5 figure mark.
    Looking at other districts and how they do their paying of bills most do it twice a month not one like ours. I bet it is so the board can look it over and really check if the money is spent wisely and by have it twice a month it doesn't take that much time.
    ReplyDelete
  128. 7:20 if you're going to correct someone, double check EVERYTHING to make sure YOU get it right. You completely missed the use of "expect" when the word clearly should have been "except".
    And 7:36, Blogging is like texting you do not apply the rules of a grammatical sentence. That may describe common perception in the blogging/texting world, BUT this attitude is also part of why our students have trouble composing full thoughts and writing properly in their class assignments. I'd rather see proper grammar move into the blogging/texting world than see the IMproper grammar move into the school world. Since everyone who participates on this blog really cares about the students (or claims to), I propose we ALL try to set an example for the students and use proper grammar, spelling, and clarity. There are a lot of good things about the immediacy of blogging, but the bad thing of the immediacy of blogging is that it's just too easy to hit "Publish" without proofreading. And as we've all seen repeatedly, it seems to be too easy to type without really thinking things through.
    And our KIDS are the ones who have to pay the price, in not having the pool available to use.
    ReplyDelete
  144. Talk about a waste of money. This new pool requirement is ridiculous. One person (I think it was in Hawaii or somewhere) got caught by the drain in a pool and drowned (there was constant suction because there was some sort of waterfall built into their pool). Because of that, the State of Illinois is now requiring all existing pools to remodel their drain system. It's going to cost pool owners an average of $65,000 each to modify their pools.
    You want to complain about unnecessary burdens on tax payer, call the health department and let them know what you think about $65,000 being wasted on this.
    ReplyDelete
  145. There where a few more cases than one and I don't think it is a waste of money to save a persons life. For this district it would be just a matter of them not getting food for awhile.
    I believe a lawsuit would cost a lot more if someone got hurt. From my understanding they let the pre school use the pool and Oswego rent it so yes it should of been fixed and they had six years to do it.
  147. Actually, district personnel have simply figured out over the years that the best way to get parental involvement is to have food at events. If food is provided, attendance doubled, tripled or more at events like open house or family reading nights.
    If food is the hook that gets parents in the door, so be it. It's better than spending the $800 on mailing flyers that are thrown in the garbage.
  148. The pool drain issue is several years old. The vast majority of pools in this area have already been fixed. There's just a few who have never gotten around to it who are in danger of being shut down. Granted, for the first year of the requirement it was very difficult to get the new drain covers because they just weren't available yet, but it's been a year or two since they've been widely available.
  149. You are wrong we shouldn't have to feed them to get them at school and you can bet the bagels weren't for that how many early things do they have for parents. I as a tax payer do not believe we should spend that money on things like that.
  152. The Board needs to go and 5 of them will be up for election. Although Tursa and Hull are as bad if not worst than the other ones.
    When someone like Hull throws his weight around with a teacher to get the word out to the other teachers hands off my daughter that is wrong.
    Hull also emailed a administrator at the East High a private complaint letter from a group of teachers they asked remain confidential. If someone can not complain to the Board and ask for confidential treatment then the Board becomes ineffective.
    ReplyDelete
  153. You are wrong there are only three up for re election and they should be gone but they won't because we will be lucky to get anyone to run our best hope is consolidation with another district or the State to step in.
    ReplyDelete
  154. It is 5 because you will remember 2 got appointed so they will have 2-2 year terms and 3-4 year terms.
    We all know Cervantes is Clayton's hand picked B2M.
  156. What is a Pupil Personnel Assistant and why does the district need one.
    ReplyDelete
  157. I am sure if there is a job posting this job would have a description. If not- an abbreviated, non employee description of the job would be non certified door security, hall monitor, gopher.
    Referred to by students as the PPA. Any other input?
    ReplyDelete
  158. No I was just wondering because I was a community event and saw someone I knew and they state a family member was working for the district and said another member of their family was working as a Dean Assistant and just looked it up and it said the PPA.
    ReplyDelete
  159. Dean's Assistant and PPA are interchangeable. They both do the same basic jobs. For some reason different buildings use the different terms.
    ReplyDelete
  160. Deans Assistants are always hired by Clayton's many of them are his friends funny how that works.
    ReplyDelete
  161. What certification does Clayton hold? How can this be checked? Does he hold an admin. Type 75 Certification? If he doesn't, how can he hire anyone?
    ReplyDelete
  162. Clayton has no current certifications. He did have a teaching certification years ago he let it lapse. Clayton has never had any type of administration certificate.
    What Clayton does have is that he is the godson of Ponquinette.
    ReplyDelete
  163. Mary Taylor and her son both work for the district. Her other son Jamalo had a Summer janitor job. The Salinas family has 8 members as PPA's , secretaries, teaching assistance or janitor these are examples of Clayton helping his friends
    ReplyDelete
  164. Do they advertise these Pupil Personnel Assistant jobs on the district website? I don't doubt that these jobs are needed (I've seen Ms. Taylor at the high school, and know that she works hard throughout the school day)--but they should be applied for and hired like any other job in our district, through the same channels and procedures.
    If these positions are being recruited and handed out under the table that would be absolutely WRONG.
    ReplyDelete
  165. Taylor may work hard but her sons do not.
    ReplyDelete
  166. I see the district is advertising for a construction manager sounds like Nestor's job or maybe they are just giving him more help because he is not qualified for what he does
    ReplyDelete
  167. Central Office news is Hull got Roberts to work on his daughters problems at the High School. Grades getting changed should be looked into. Board members should never use their positions to promote themselves. Conrad was involved. Adams put her in honors class she could not keep up now it is the teachers fault. Of course Roberts sent the orders from on top. The teachers have a shit union
  168. From the Illinois Statehouse News:
    SPRINGFIELD — Half of Illinois’ high school students cannot read or solve math problems at grade level, but state school leaders are not blaming the students or teachers.They are blaming the federal program No Child Left Behind, or NCLB.Illinois State Superintendent Chris Koch and State Board of Education Chairman Gery Chico on Thursday unveiled the dismal results from last spring’s standardized tests.
    Under NCLB guidelines, 85 percent of students must be proficient in reading and math by 2011. The bar is raised to 100 percent by 2014. These same percentages apply to science for high-schoolers.
    Students in third through eighth grades as well as 11th grade take standardized tests to measure their adequate yearly progress in reading, math and science.
    This past year, about half of Illinois’ 11th-graders, who take the Prairie State Achievement Exam, or PSAE, scored at or above the 85 percent benchmark:51 percent in reading and math; 49 percent in science. In all, 656 of Illinois’ 666 public high schools failed to meet NCLB requirements.
    Students in third through eighth grades, overall, scored below the 85 percent benchmark, except for the following student groups who scored at or above the mark:85 percent of eighth-graders in reading; 86 percent of eighth-graders in math; 87 percent of fourth-graders in math. Students in third through eighth grade take the Illinois Standards Achievement Test, or ISAT. In all,1,892 of the state’s 3,231 elementary and middle schools did not meet the federal guidelines.
    ReplyDelete
  169. (continued)
    Overall, 65 percent of Illinois’ 4,321 schools failed to meet the federal standards. Last year, 51 percent of schools did not progress.
    Chico said the rise in failure rates indicates that NCLB has “lost its usefulness.”
    “The motives were good; the ideas were good. But like a lot of things over time, it … is now creating problems for us,” said Chico.
    Chico said NCLB is “improperly labeling” students and schools as failing, because schools that are close to meeting the benchmark are still classified as missing the mark.
    Illinois is seeking a federal waiver from the NCLB requirement that all students must pass standardized reading and math proficiency tests by 2014. President Barack Obama recently said the federal government would agree to waivers, if the states were to be held more accountable for whatever educational progress students and schools actually achieved.
    “We all kinda knew that the bar that was being set, every year, that level was going up to a point that no one can reach it,” said Chico.
    But Kock said NCLB ignores progress in favor of results.
    “If you’re making improvements in one, two, or three grade levels, that’s a great thing,” said Koch. “Right now in this system, you don’t get credit for that. If we were given credit for that, we’d be seeing and recognizing a lot of schools for the improvements they are authentically making on behalf of students.
    Robin Steans, executive director of the education advocacy group Advance Illinois, said parents need to monitor their child’s progress.
    “At the end of the day, parents care most about what is going on with their children,” said Steans. “Parents need to be involved to make sure your children are really where they should be.”
  173. It seems Clayton can't keep up with his work at least that is the story everyone is being give . The person will be Bilingual and put district information in two languages. They already do they are called translators. So the story is that coupled with the mentor program and fundraisers that are going on. The Board approved this some time ago because I checked on this myself. It sounds like it was the disricts way of getting around it. It is not a popular move in Central office but if you kiss Johnson's ass you get what you want.
    Clayon, Martinez and Adams are good ass kissers.
    ReplyDelete
  177. Eliseo Martinez is one of our district's finest products--an outstanding teacher! Our kids are SO fortunate to have him as their music teacher!!
    ReplyDelete
  178. Meanwhile, the EAHS jazz band is spending their class time practicing the pit music for "The Wiz". Which sounds like a grEAt idea (the kids are already there at school, ready to rehearse)--except for the fact that the band director is being paid $7,330.00 JUST FOR DIRECTING THE PIT. Rehearsing during the school day amounts to being paid twice for the same work.
    That $7,330.00 is more than TWICE as much as the previous EAHS band director was paid for directing the pit, AND rehearsals took place outside the school day (no double-dipping).
    SHAME ON THE ADMINISTRATION for squandering our tax dollars this way!
    ReplyDelete
  179. Wow, how much of that is an assumption. Good job on turning more half truths into whole truths.
    EXAMPLE - More than twice what the previous band director made.
    There is ZERO evidence of this. There was a poster who GUESSED at what he made, but nobody ever confirmed it.
    Thanks for lying.
    ReplyDelete
  180. Actually, it's triple dipping.
    The band director gets a large stipend for all his after school rehersals etc. On top of that he is receiving an additional stipend for directing the pit (which he is already being paid for). And he is rehearsing what he is receiving these two stipends for, during the day.
    It is pretty good to be one of the administrations Special Employees.
    ReplyDelete
  181. Man you guys are so stupid
    ReplyDelete
  182. 12:24 p.m., go ahead and check the records for yourself. I have--and I found out that the band director was paid $174.65 in 20 installments in 2004-2005 for "HS MUS ORCHESTRA PIT DIR". It is public information, available to anyone.
    It is SO easy to call people liars when you're desperate to make excuses for administration's favoritism and wasting of OUR money.
    ReplyDelete
  183. And 12:24 p.m., if you're too lazy to do the math it works out to $3,493.00--which is indeed LESS THAN HALF the amount paid to the current director.
    This is NOT a criticism of the current director; he is not paying himself, but only collecting what the ADMINISTRATION authorized. As for the double-dipping, again it's not necessarily a bad thing for him to use Jazz Band class time to rehearse. It's a bad thing for ADMINISTRATION to pay (exorbitantly!) twice for the same job.
    This is a major example of misuse of money that COULD have gone for books, technology, supplies, even private music lessons for our kids. ADMINISTRATORS making choices for arrogance.
    ReplyDelete
  184. Where is that PUBLIC information posted. I don't BELIEVE YOU.
    ReplyDelete
  185. Here is the list for differentials I believe for the pit directors and you can see that I guess how many years one would do it the get more money and it doesn't show here that for different years in the contract they get more so he might be getting more than k but that is because they are paying more. Do I think it is a little much for a high poverty district that gets most of their money from the State and Federal government yes I do but it seems that we have more money lately since we get our money from the State on time and the bonds or whatever we got from a referendum. Also remember we the voters voted most of the board members in and when they ran some stated they would watch the money but I guess things changed when they got in. It is amazing they can beg for donations for things when they pay like this and don't think this is the only place they waste money.
    ReplyDelete
  191. 6:28 p.m. is probably an ADMINISTRATOR, unable to defend the shameless waste of tax dollars on their favorites. It's soooo much easier to just deny & distract instead of provide specific evidence of supposed "deception".
    ReplyDelete
  192. Yup, you are right. Good job you caught me.
    When the set up the pay scale over 10 years ago they knew that Mr. Liska would be coming to East High and they wanted to pay him really well. So the set up the pay scale (again, over 10 years ago) to benifit him and only him.
    ReplyDelete
  193. If ADMINISTRATORS are authorizing paying other employees more than $100.00/hour that is equally wrong. This is NOT about any specific teacher--it is about ADMINISTRATION squandering our money. The pit director stipend just happens to be the most egregious example right now; feel free to mention others and raise still more awareness of how ADMINISTRATORS cannot be trusted with our tax dollars.
