Spring is always a time of new beginnings, and it looks like 2011 will be no different! We will have fresh faces on our School Board, new policies regarding district Internet use, and reworking of our state's education budget (to name just a few).
Change can be both a blessing and a challenge. How can District 131 embrace necessary changes, while looking out for the best interests of our students?

The average college graduate earns $52,200. Teachers start teaching at an average of $34,700. We are underpaid for years with the understanding that it is made up for on the backend. We pay huge amounts (almost 10% of our salary) into our retirement system so that we can have a semi-comfortable retirement.
Now the States like Wisconsin, Illinois and many others who have spent money recklessly for years. In good times, spending everything they had and then some, find that the economy doesn't grow every year.
Now they want to cut the very benefits that teachers have already been sacrificing many years for.
It's outrageous.
In Wisconsin, it has little to do with balancing the budget. You simply have a Govenor there who wants to bust the unions. He spent his whole career fighting against unions and now that he is Govenor he wants to bully through legislation that will break the unions forever.
A public servant who won't listen to the very people he represents should not be in office. Our founding fathers placed the amendments in order. 1 Freedom of Speach, politicians need to listen to the people. 2 Right to Bear Arms, when a government becomes corrupt and no longer represents the people, the people have a responsibility to replace their government with one that will represent the people.

and further, that for the past 20 years those earnings have been in relative decline. Factoring in benefits including pensions, which in the public sector comprise a greater share of compensation, doesn't change that picture: state and local workers still have lower total compensation. Compensation for state employees, the report finds, is on average 6.8 percent
lower than that earned by comparable private sector employees.
So, why has the idea gained currency that public workers are overpaid?
It's because, says Bender, Bureau of Labor Statistics data shows public sector workers making more. The problem there, he says, is that the BLS isn't comparing
apples and apples—it doesn't take into account workers' level of education, which tends to be higher in the public sector. Adjust for education level, says
Bender, and you find public workers underpaid.
Whether or not public workers are overpaid, states facing budget crises are looking to save money any way they can, including paying public workers less, either by reducing pay, reducing pension benefits, or both. In extreme cases, public workers have woken

Yes, I heard & I do not work for the district but heard Sheila Conrad told Nestor she did not want Richard Carlson taking over at the high school.
She "supposedly" went on to say, he was not good for the HS last time he was in charge and she did not want him back. Then a follow up message was supposedly sent, that was asking the email should not be sent or forwarded. Major oops! I bet she was using the F word. LOL
Simply put, when you compare public and private employees doing the same job and with the same education, public sector employees make on average 6.8% less money.
They are skewing the numbers by adding uneducated menial labor positions to the overall numbers. Playing with the numbers and coming to conclusions that are not substantiated factually.
The politicians are purposely creating conflicts between these groups to push through legislation to cut public sector employees salries and pensions.

Many kids have done great things at East this year but who do we promote a Board members daughter and Boys11Men. This kid has had non other the the Director of Curriculum do a class scheduling. She was given a job in the office to complete community service and now Clayton takes her as a Sophomore to the Rotary Club. This is a event to feature seniors. Yes Rayanne the Board needs to change we need to elect members that will work for the good of all children not just their own.
It's Roger Carlson (not Richard) and they need to move him because he's not doing his job where he's placed now.
He's not the only one in the building and grounds depatment who does little or nothing.
If the administration would deal with these maintenance men who refuse to work, our buildings would be in much better condition.
The head janitor at Simmons came in to find a huge mess left by a night janitor the other morning. There was a mess in the kitchen that would have had the health department shutting down the cafeteria.
He notified his superior at building and grounds about the situation and stated that the guy needed to be fired. He was not doing his job.
The head janitor was essentially told to shut up and just clean the mess left by night worker.
With leadership like that, we wonder why the building are in such disrepair.

If you look hard enough you can find facts for both sides of a story it's up to the taxpayers to find which side is lying more than the other.

The recent 5 to 4 Supremem Court decision to allow unlimited campaign contributions to our elected officials by special interests is only going to make things worse.
You want to save money, here are a few real places that we could have saved in the past few years.
$3-4 a gallon prices for gasoline while oil companies rake in record profits. Literally hundreds of billions of dollars every year.
10's of billions of tax dollars given to pharmaceutical companies to stockpile innoculations against the imaginary "bird flu". Not one case documented in the USA.
Hundreds of billions of dollars given to Haliburton in no bid military contracts. The same company our former vice president had been a top executive of.
One Trillion dollars given to failing banks while their CEO's and top executives have given themselves billions of dollars out of that amount in bonuses.

No but the real problem in government is corrupt Boards who take on positions for personal gain like Raymond Hull.
Looking at the board agenda for tonight, it looks like they are adding two new administrative positions.
One is listed as a .5 administrative position. The other is listed as a gifted facilitator.
They have the funds to add these positions but they need to cut homework clubs in our buildings. They need to cut professional development for teachers and they need to cut the supplies going to the classrooms.

We have been without a gifted program for years, and now we get 1 position. While our admin spend time worrying about government funds for preschool & bilingual programs, we are failing to offer our gifted students to be educated to their ability.
No folks! The magnet school is not a school for the gifted. Unless a student happens to be giftd and have parents who can provide transportation and a child who needs/wants to be segregated from the main stream EA public school setting.
Go to a Board meeting and watch the center of the table. The pot is brewing and the lid to the craziness is about to blow.
About the gifted situation--my spouse (who teaches in this district) & I moved out of D131 into D204 after our son's fifth grade year at Dieterich specifically so he could be in their gifted program, called "Project Arrow". Our son thrived in that program, and is now a college graduate (with honors), working in the computer engineering field. We credit his Dieterich teachers for encouraging him and recognizing his capabilities, but we also realized that he needed a different program than our district middle schools provided.
I know of a few other cases where D131 parents have made a well-thought-out decision to move out of the district in order to better serve the needs of their child. We live in an area where parents have many options: religious schools, private schools such as Montessori, public schools, home schooling, or moving into a different district. Unfortunately, it is usually the "best and brightest" students who move out of D131, since many parents either don't care about their kids' education or can't afford an alternative.
I think the pot of crazy behavior happens because Roberts is a master.

Collective bargaining seems to be under attack with the budget crisis. But one has to realize that collective bargaining has always involved both sides. Blaming unions for the budget crisis is putting blame entirely on one side. "collective" means both. Wisconsin is a great example of people standing up for their rights. Hopefully Indiana will do the same and Illinois will not be faced with such a proposal.
Our teachers need and deserve collective bargaining.
It will be interesting to see how the governor rolls out school funding. The tax increase and the promise to keep funding at its current level are there in his budget proposal. But there was always talk about raising income taxes and the providing relief from property taxes based on school funding. Haven't heard that idea since the new tax hike.
School funding reform is needed, no doubt. But until they really look at equitable funding of schools there will always be a great gap between districts and funding.

I don't know if this is true or not but it is said that 75% of a school district budget goes to salaries, pensions and health care you have to wonder if they are really in it for the students and their education or the benefit of the people that work for the district. Those numbers go for all employees including office workers, maintenance, cleaning crew and anyone else working for the district.

It's true that Nestor was doing his student at East and eventually had to marry her. I'm guessing a shotgun was involved.
The real tragedy though, is that in any other school district, Nestor would have been fired, lose his certification, been arrested, thrown in jail and would have been compelled to register as a sex offender for life. In District 131 they make you an Assistant Superintendent. At least someone put him in a position where he has little or no access to children.
And they wonder why the community can't trust the administration and board in this district?
8:57 p.m., we do NOT know the extent of the pre-marital relationship between Nestor Garcia and the EHS student he eventually married. The age of consent for marriage in the state of Illinois is 16 for young women (with parental consent), so it could have been that her parents encouraged it. My own grandmother married a man 20 years older than she, two days after her 16th birthday, and the marriage was a successful one.
I raised my own daughter to consider marriage only after college graduation (as I myself did)--but regardless of our own attitudes and expectations, the fact is that the laws of the state of Illinois do allow young women to marry at sixteen years of age.
You forget the laws regarding relationships between teachers and students. Not only is it illegal to have relations with a student while they are your student. It is still illegal to have relationships with your students for several years after they graduate.
In short, you don't have sex with students especially while they are minors.
It is also a violation of district policy for a teacher to have relations with a student.
In addition, teachers and administrators are state mandated reporters. If the administration knew that Nestor was sexually abusing a minor (parental consent or not) the district was required by law to report this abuse to DCFS. Since the district did not report this relationship to DCFS, the district administrators were also breaking the law.

However, when you are entrusted to protect children, you don't have that luxury. You must think about the safety of the children first. The rights of a teacher in a relationship with a student (having sex or not) is a distant second to the safety of the children.

Some of the things on this blog border on ridiculous. But that’s what blogs are for – open discussion and sharing of opinions and people should have the right to say what they feel about the subject. It's not libel when it's true. It's only libelous when you deliberately make a false statement to defame ones character.
1) It would be very easy to prove who his wife is.
2) It would very easy to prove that his wife was his student.
3) Most teachers at the high school were aware of the scandal and are therefor potential witnesses.
4) Even the administrators from that time would give him up in an instant when their own rears were subpoenaed to the witness stand.
5) And, of course, the person making the libelous claim (and his wife)would have to take the stand and tell the whole truth.
It makes a person wonder why someone would be more upset about the act being revealed than the act itself.
There have been court cases regarding blogs before but only when people documented their names.
In those cases, it was not determined to libelous if the person believed facts to be true but in the end were found to be not factual. The courts realized that the first amendment protects speech and as long as a person is stating what they believe to be true, it was not libelous.
Blogs are not public newspapers. The people posting on blogs are not professional reporters who must document every source. People do what they can to share information they believe will benefit the community.
People reading blogs know that, not everything on a blog is going to be completely factual. They should read it in that context.

Haven't seen the check registers, but in the recent minutes the web master stipends that have been questioned are listed.
They are under List of Bills under Finance.
It shows $9,000.00 being paid out to webmasters and that is only 6 of the 16 buildings
16 plus buildings if you count the magnet on root street, the service center, the preschool.

There's been discussion at the state level to consolidate as much as 500 of the 868 school districts in Illinois.
In smaller, rural counties, there are some districts that have only one or two schools. In the Chicago area, there are some communities that have multiple school districts (including Aurora which has at least more six that include portions of the city, such asWest Aurora, East Aurora, Indian Prairie, Batavia, Kaneland, Oswego) .
Are consolidating school districts a good idea? If so, what are some of the examples you would merge?

It would save a LOT of money for taxpayers to pay only one superintendent, along with fewer overpaid assistant superintendents. Get rid of bullies like Marin Gonzalez; make Jerome Roberts assistant superintendent of the consolidated school district (or make Rydland the assistant & Roberts the superintendent); and get rid of Clayton Muhammad's position so he can run Boys II Men full-time.

The person who posted befor me even came away thinking east aurora was an African american school--its not and the only reason it seemed to her all the achiever celebrations had a "singularly ethnic theme"-(black) is because they are the only ones to get any publicity because its such a big deal when one of "them" do good--other races do good everyday and you hear nothing about them--could it be because there is a black principal there now and he truly leans to one side of all races and discriminates against the ones that arent the same as his? na couldnt be-----NOT

February is also Black History Month, so that was combined with these awards. I would rather see them combine two events and save money, than to hold two separate ones that would cost more.

Yes I would rather have them combine events so why have a black history month at all. Why not just honor students in general. East Aurora has a black Superintendent not a black Principal. The Superintendent sets the vision for his District. Could it be the Dr Jerome Roberts wanted to imply only black kids do well. Dr Roberts is not held to the same standard as a Dr Ryland because society grants him a pass.
AURORA — The awards ceremony went on at East Aurora High School, even though the guest speaker wasn’t there.
Television Judge Greg Mathis canceled his appearance at the fifth annual East Aurora Achievers Awards program at the last minute Thursday because of a death in the family.
But the crowd of nearly 1,000 people packed in the auditorium was still treated to a celebration.
The Oswego East and West Aurora step teams, the West Aurora Gospel Choir and several individual entertainers performed.
The host of the ceremony and East Aurora spokesman Clayton Muhammad spoke with Mathis earlier in the day.
“The last thing he wanted to do was let down children,” Muhammad said. “But we encouraged him to be with his family.”
The crowd gasped in disappointment when Muhammad told the crowd of Mathis’ absence, but cheered excitedly for some of the other entertainment — including Chicago singer Demi Lobo and East Aurora graduate and musician Joshua Welton.
About 75 children from the district were honored as part of the event for having a grade point average of 3.0 or higher. The event honored Black History Month at the same time. Pictures of famous black Americans such as Barack Obama, Oprah Winfrey, Kobe Bryant and others appeared on a slideshow before the event began.
“We have to remember the visionaries who said ‘I’m going to do it,’ when other people said they couldn’t,” Muhammad said.
The students were each given a trophy. This year the name of the award was changed to the Scheketa Hart-Burns Award, after Aurora’s 7th Ward alderman. Hart-Burns, who was honored earlier in the day by the city’s African-American Heritage Advisory Board, was not told of the name change until shortly before the awards were given.
Hart-Burns gave some words of advice to the students.
“If you can think of it, you can be it,” she said. “I have to say, the sky is truly the limit.”

I am not sure I am clear on the Black History celebation. Were only Black students awarded with a trophy for having a 3.0 GPA? Does Sheketa pay for these trophies, is that the reason for attaching her name?
We seem to have the same African American individuals honored repeatedly this time of the year, as if we have a limited pool to choose from-which is untrue.
We have the same pool awarded every year because Clayton can't count he does not realize the district has any other student going to it but black kids. Time for the board to have some balls and get rid of him.

Ron Hubbard is so exceedingly valuable to every Caucasian person on this earth,” he said. “L. Ron Hubbard himself was and is trying to civilize white people and make them better human beings and take away from them their reactive minds… Mr. Hubbard recognized that his people have to be civilized.”
Throughout a speech lasting four hours, Farrakhan also touched on the Nation of Islam’s beliefs concerning UFOs, the invention of white people by a mad black scientist 4,000 years ago, and the Jewish oppression of African-Americans.
“Don’t leave until I close — that might be a year from now,” he joked with the audience at one point. “Teach on!” the crowd replied.
Farrakhan won the Libyan dictator’s Al-Gadhafi International Prize for Human Rights in 1996. Previous winners include Hugo Chavez, Fidel Castro, and French Holocaust denier Roger Garaudy.

Watching ABC News last night. Farrakhan is coming under a lot of scrutiny for his anti-semetic views and for his ties to Moammar Gadhafi.
I was struck by how many of his worshipers had the last name Muhammad.
I think Louis Farrakhan and Mel Gibson have a lot in common.
Both men have been spouting anti-Semitic hatred for years, but a lot of people have brushed that aside because Farrakhan and Gibson each did something very positive: Farrakhan organized the "Million Man March", and Gibson produced the film "Passion of the Christ".
Many thousands of African-Americans changed their last names to X and/or to Muhammad in the late 1990's in support of the Nation of Islam's heroes (Fard Muhammad, Elijah Muhammad, Malcolm X, and Louis Farrakhan). But lately Farrakhan (like Mel Gibson) has gone off the deep end, losing the admiration and respect of all but hard-core followers.
I agree that our district's Community Relations Director should distance himself from Farrakhan before our young soldiers start fighting and dying in Libya. Farrakhan (these days) is espousing dangerous, unpatriotic beliefs--not what we want our children emulating!
I hope what happened to us workers at my job doesn't happen to district workers since I hear that the district hasn't started taking out the amount the State Taxes went up to. Our company didn't and now since our company has to pay State Taxes at the end of March is taking the 2% that wasn't taken out at the end of March which for some of us could be $150.00 from our paychecks which will really be shorting us. The district has to start taking that out sometime so be prepared.

At least thirty people have been killed and dozens injured after the army opened fire on protesters in the Libyan city of Zawiyah, residents have reported.
Although the facts cannot be verified, it is thought pro-Gaddafi forces entered the city and fired at around 60 protesters, who then returned fire.
A number of people were shot, including a rebel commander who was killed.
This then set off another march of thousands of people, many of whom were unarmed, who were subsequently shot at by the military.

Getting rid of Roberts could have happened 2 years ago, so it appeared initially, when there were a majority of 4 new board members.
2 of those did a turn about and got buddy buddy with their employee and ignored the troubles in the district, in exchange for rubbing elbows with admin. One quit and then the other (Dee Weaver) stood alone.
Juanita has been given undeserved praise and honors for continually sitting and doing the superitendents bidding. One time she stepped forward and appeared to be paying attention when she mailed the alderman and told them she was reconsidering her decision on a matter before them.
The board chastised her and got her back in line. Her deeds for the good of all the 131 families was short lived.
Who to vote for as a board member for me is a hard choice. Most will not ever like some on the board now will not follow rules of a board. Some of them are more concerned about protecting Roberts and Clayton then all of the students of this district.
When a board member hears in closed session from what I hear about a teacher complain about a principle and then goes to that principle and tells them is a problem. They are not suppose to do that and would they do that if it wasn't a different race. There are some on the board that say they are church going people but they will break laws to save one of their own.
You look at the candidates and wonder if they really want to make a change for the best in this district for all the students or just for certain people. It is a shame that in a district this large we can't get residents that send their children to this district to run for the board.
Perhaps, the Govenors plan to consolidate districts and get rid of 2/3rds of the administrators and boards (PR Departments too)will be a good thing. this district certainly needs an overhaul of the top. Since it isn't happening in-house, maybe the state can step in.
If Johnson and Roberts are really fighting they will get rid of each other. I do think their friendship wore thin.
I think the fight started over Clayton and from what everyone hears at Central Office Johnson is really mad about the mentor program. They used to same old story to hire pretty boy Martinez. Only a few even mentor mostly hand picked black kids by Clayton. Martinez spends his day doing Boys 2 Men with Ryan Ford.

The board has been asking for documentation about the effectiveness of the magnet school for two years. Has this information been produced. And what about the cost of this program? It was said that there would be no additional cost but everyone knew this is B.S. At the very least, they have added additional administrators to run the program.
I've heard from teachers at the magnet school that they teach classes with as few as 5 students in them while our regular school are saddled with 35-40 students in a class. This is an additional cost to the regular students that will never show on a financial report.

If what you say is true about a pr person and webmaster at all buildings you are right it is a waste of money. How is it that other districts can do it with just one pr person and maybe a couple of webmasters dependng on the size of the district.

Maybe the building are a good idea it is certainly a lot less than the PR department. That way to entire community will know what is going on at the schools. I also heard that the Board forced a Spanish version. Something other districts had for years with few latino's in their District. I would not count the Board out yet.

No matter how people feel about what happened in Wisconsin does not make it right to threaten people with killing them and their families. Why is it alright for the public sector with a union to negotiate the pension when everyone else that doesn't work for the government can't.
First off, there are unions in the private sector and they do negotiate for their pensions and health care. You could do these things as well if you and your fellow employees stood together instead of trying to bring others down.

First off, the reference you sight is from a far right conservative group who wants to destroy education to save themselves a few dollars. You must look at it from that perspective.
Secondly, pensions are not an item that can be looked at from an individual basis. They are negotiated in conjuction with salary, benefits and working conditions.
For example, all the Green Bay Teachers accepted a three year pay freeze to obtain their pension benefits. Now their govenor wants to force them to pay for their pensions etc. despite this having been negotiated and they having been three years behind in salary advancements for decades to pay for it.
In addition, teachers make 5%-10% less than their private sector counterparts. This difference is also what pays for these pensions. On the surface it looks like they are receiving an 80% contribution to their pensions but if you look a little deeper, you will find that they contribute far more.
What about the people without a union that are educated and have to pay for their own pension should they just stop working. It is time that the public sector unions stop holding the taxpayers hostage with thier threats of killing someone.
Yes, I'm in a union and what the companies do to us if we strike or say we will campaign to get someone out of office is to move the jobs overseas.
I don't know why you keep talking about death threats. Union leaders have publicly come out and told their members to keep things civil. No one is endorsing death threats and no one is endorsing violating the law in any way.
If you don't like the profession that you are in, choose another one. No one forced you into what you are doing. If your employer is abusive, threatening to take your job oversees and refusing to let you unionize, seek employment elsewhere.
Don't whine and gripe about other professions who have stood up for themselves. You should be supporting them and bringing other professions up. Not tearing them down because you don't have the same. In other words, GROW UP!!!

If you are at risk of being thrown out into the streets and find it so terrible, why would you wish the same for others? Why would you want to strip basic protections from others?

You should try working at d131 when students come to school with weapons and are known Latin Kings and you try to enforce the school code and a bunch of old ladies and a black Minister on the Board think they know better and send them right back to school. I hope the two Board members grand children and daughter never encounter with these kids inflicting harm on them. Remember Hull and Tursa are up for election lets send them a message.

Lewis is the constant Bitch that visits Waldo at least once a week. Why, because her grand children are part of the discipline problem. Of course they are Board members kids so the so staff needs to make every attempt to keep them happy.
Hull is another one his daughters classes got hand pick by none other that Deanne Adams a central office director of curriculum. Then she gets to East decides nobody likes me cries to daddy the classes are to hard and gets her schedule changed gets given a job in the office so she does not have to spend time mixing with the general population. Then Clayton took her to Rotary as a Sophomore a program designed for seniors and paraded her around like Tomcat of the year. A girl with all that Central office help and she can't make a 2.5 GPA funny how that works.
Lets not forget the candidates that will take the four spots.
Sifuentes already gets favors his children are in the preschool program. This is a program designed for low income spanish speakers. But when you know Lisa anything is possible she manages to keep her loser husband in a job by enlarging Roberts print for him and rumor is she gives good back rubs. Although Wilson does not care he is still on donut runs with the secretary.
Hill is a supporter of Clayton's and follows Farrakum. He would like to turn out more Farrakum disciples that is why he is running for the Board.
Cervantes is a B2M and Clayton is openly running his campaign from Central Office. Prediction B2M will get more District support when they have their elected member.
Foltz another friend of Clayton had her son killed and another in jail. Her campaign platform is "If they only had been members of B2M.
Central Office prediction Johnson will crawl before she becomes President again. She will be forced to apologize in public for her questioning of Roberts. Clayton will assure his mentor Gillespe the Urban League will gain slots and district money. All this for a program that loses kids to the street to get shoot. But as Clayton would say good thing the kid was not black.

Its funny the Board President does not even send her kids to d131 schools. I suppose that a good thing they will never face the danger her and her fellow Board members have created. I am sure most of this can be attributed to her lack of care. Since her kids are put on a bus and dropped off in front of a safe school with out over crowded classrooms.
As for Lewis with the discipline she runs her own household with one can imagine.
Hull is unethical and teaching his child it is ok to go buy a grade.

The Board President doesn't have any children but I believe she has the best interest of the district children in mind. I'm glad she called out Roberts and some others that is the job of the President of the Board and other Board members. The Board sets the policy and the one and only employee of the Board is suppose to follow it.

The Board President does have kids and they do go to Naperville schools. I believe the children are adopted. I also believe they have always gone to those schools.
I did attend the Board meeting Monday night and yes it no longer appears Roberts and her get along. Cortigan & Clark have long been thick as thieves with District administration. It sounds like she wanted them to get other bidders for the building projects and they did not get them. This company has long had a history of making millions on this district in exchange for a few trips for the Serial Bully and some paid remodeling for the current Superintendent. The funny part is Roberts did not seem upset. Nestor was not there I suppose he was tipped off to stay home. I seemed Roberts was upset by the trip to spain issue than that. I wonder why. My guess Johnson did this to build her image and Roberts went along. Don't kid yourself Johnson and Roberts still look out for number one.
Johnson may possibly be considered a part time nanny for a well to do family. She has NO children, she lives with her Mother.
Why does this blog always revert to attacking families. The comments about Lewis is nobody's business when it comes to Waldo. What caring grandparent/parent does not have problems with Waldo. I know Ms Lewis as a band parent and I have never known of her act in a way that is not for the good of all children.

Maybe why some comment about things on this blog is because when community members decide to run for the board they are suppose to be for all children. Lewis has every right to go into Waldo as a grandparent and see how her grandchildren are doing but with care since she is on the board. Do the parents of the children also go into Waldo for the children? The question will Hull is did he decide to be on the board to get his child help and from what I have heard he did tell the principle of one of the schools about a complaint about her that was talked about in closed session and that is not good would he have done it if it was another one? Maybe he did have the help of the others but if he was really ethical he would of questioned it because favors are meant to be returned.
We all complain about other forms of government and the favors it is the same with the board.
I would not be concerned about what the current members are up they seem to be addressing issues. It took a lot of courage for them to dig into the Urban League program you know Roberts has been covering up that one. After-all his land lord is Gillespe.
The Teachers from Spain have been going on forever. Hopefully they will not back off. Americans need jobs here. Why should we be paying for housing, transportation and legal fees.

The problem with all the Boards is that by the time they figure out what the administrators are up to 2 years rolls around and another new board gets seated.
So far this board has done absolutely nothing to enhance the image of 131. Folks are moving out of the district because those with children just do not want their kids going to those schools. So in the end if all the people who care about their childrens education are leaving the district, what is it left with? A bunch of parents who could give a damn about their kids education. Those are the ones who continue to bring down the test scores. So how do you imporve anything if this is the popluation a district is left with. The District needs to move very fast to entice those families that do care to stay in the district. I do not know what those incentives would be but this district had better move fast. There is and will be a mass exodus of families.

A mass exodus wouldn't be all bad. There would be more resources available for the kids who did stay.
And many times the KIDS are bright & teachable (especially in their early school years), even if there's little or no support at home.

The sad truth is that most that are running for the board are ones that some of the administration, the superintendent or Clayton and maybe Hull got to run. They have no clue how a board is suppose to be ran and will not really look into the responsibilities of a board. They will be just like some of the others that are sitting on the board now and rubber stamp what the superintendent, administration and clayton wants or thinks is best. They will not be there for all the students of the district. It is time for this district to be taken over by the state and get people in here that are for educating all our children and not just benefiting a few.

If I were on the school board and I saw how the administration was doing what they could to replace me and/or upset the balance of power, I would show the superintendent where the power truly is and fire the man. Even if it was a lame duck session before the new board was seated.

Ryan Boatright was at it again.
This week, he was starting a fight with another student. He led about twenty black students over to the other kid who had many of his friends around him. Staff members had to put themselves in danger, getting between the two groups and doing what they could to break up the altercation.
Basically, Boatright was inciting mob action. Any other student would be suspended for this behavior and expusion would be seriously considered for this behavior by a student with the history Boatright has.
Does this district and Sheila Conrad follow district policy when dealing with Boatright? Absolutely not. It took the office forever just to get Boatright to go into the office to speak to the principal. He was refusing. His mother finally got him into the room by bringing him food. Boatright was in the principals office thumbing his nose at her and eating food.
Was Boatright disciplined? suspended? expelled? NO
What Sheila Conrad did do was to send the kid home who was out on the baseball field playing with his team when Boatright started the altercation.
Boatright tries to start a racial mob fight and Sheila Conrad sends the victim home and feeds the criminal.
Man, is this district ever screwed up.

Central Office is a buzz with rumors Roberts is trying to get rid of Johnson & Johnson is trying to get rid of Roberts. Everyone is not sure what happened she got into it over the crooked building trades and Cordogon & Clark. They payed for remodeling at Roberts house. Now Johnson wants everything rebid. Nestor has been in hiding and Roberts and Augustine have been behind closed doors.
So what is new about not bidding? It has been going on for years. The board president cannot just fire the superintendant. It is a whole board decision not just the presidents.

Boatright was obnoxious and disrespectful to the coach. His Mom has been just as bad. That has all been in view of 100's of witmesses. He has been allowed to continue to play.
In the bigger, real world-the good college teams are not going to tolerate an over indulged, immature, lime light searching, freshman (or his momma). Not to mention his questionable academic skills.

I don't disagree that Boatright is a complete disaster when it come to academics. I also think that he acts like a baby on the court when a foul is called on him or if they arn't winning.

7:19 is accurate about Boatright looking at the overall. 9:22 is speaking about a specific incident this week.
I spoke with different staff members this week who were on the field breaking up the confrontation and in the meeting this following. They wouldn't give out many of the details but I did get that the meeting included Boatright and they were pissed at how Sheila Conrad handled the prima-donna.
Put it together with what 9:22 stated, I am sure they are fairly accurate about what happened.
Boatright is protected by people at the Central Office and Sheila Conrad doesn't have the cajones to do what's right. In the short run, it demoralizes your staff and students. In the long run, it hurts Ryan Boatright, who is only going to find out when he's in jail, that there are authorities out there who won't tolerate his BS.
I heard that the coach of the kid Boatright was going after was at the meeting with his player and that Wendell Jefferies was asked to come to the meeting on behalf of Boatright but refused.
With the way Boatright treated his coaches and fellow players, it is no surprise to me that he would receive no support there now that the basketball season is done. Who wants to support someone who was calling you a little bitch the week before.
Lets be professional and get the names correct. I know it's Cundari and not Cundaria. As far as I know she is the only one that does not have any political ties to anyone in the district. I met Cundari when she was running for Kane County Board last year. She is very intelligent, and does have the interest of the people of Aurora at heart. We need to get her elected to school district 131 she will do a great job for our children.

If we don't know her and have never had the opportunity to speak with her or hear her POV, how do we get to know her prior to voting, other than from anonymous on the blog. She did not respond to the questionaire in one local paper.
You are absolutely right. Ask the candidates questions. Someone of you on this blog assume that people are connected to the district office when they are not. Come on guys. Charma works in mysterious ways. Ask the candidates and you will find out.
