Farewell, Mrs. Nadel, thanks for the memories!

"Music was my refuge. I could crawl into the space between the notes and curl my back to loneliness." ~Maya Angelou

Lynne Nadel touched the lives of countless EA students. Many found "refuge" in her classroom. She went beyond the duties of her job as a choir director. Mrs. Nadel was an adviser and inspiration to her students. She listened to their woes, shared joy in their accomplishments. She will truly be missed.

Here's wishing Lynne the best in her new home and her next season of life!

Leave it to this blog to turn a workshop into a negative.

On a more important note well everyone on this blog thinks the only thing going on in this District is the band. Good luck trying to feed your family with those skills. The Board rumor has it at the service center is not meeting the entire month of July. The two social butterflies are off on vacation and the Board President does not feel they need to get together because her and her best buddy Roberts run the District anyways so why meet.

It's not just the people on this blog who consider you a bunch of ignorant inbecils. The State of Illinois also considers you so. Just take a look at the state report cards. Your school is failing. They have been on the academic watch list for many years. Your school is failing you and just because you believe otherwise doesn't mean you are going to be able to compete in the real world.

Your real education is going to begin when you leave East High and realize you weren't prepared for life. Enjoy the Magic Kingdom, fantasy worlds are great. Come back a few years from now and tell us how far you've gotten in life.

You are still commenting on this blog? Don't you have a life to live as well? Oh. Sorry no your still posting on a blog that does not matter. Good luck changing the district whoever you are and you know what? I may be a an ignorant inbecil but I hope my life never turns out like yours, because you are depressing.

I'm pretty sure that everyone knows that our schools are bad. We try to make the best out of it though. We work towards fixing our programs by getting our communities' approval. When I come back as an adult, I will continue to support my district.
Band Camp Drum Major:"Band, Dismissed!"
Band: "EAST SIDE PRIDE!"
Every time I speak those words, I mean it.

Jakub, why are YOU still posting on a blog that you say doesn't matter? Don't YOU "have a life"?

Looks like you're doing the same thing you're criticizing the rest of us for.

Anonymous said...

Mauricio mentioned Band Camp--now THERE'S a proud tradition in our district! Truly a positive experience for all band students from 6th grade through high school. "East Side Pride", indeed!!

Anonymous said...

Because Jakub and Mauricio aren't really posting. Have you noticed that these two always write within a couple of minutes of each other and agree with each other totally. It is some adult who pulled a couple of names out of some old band program and are pretending to be band members. It's the same as Rudy, there is some pathetic individual out there who can't make their own arguement, they have to pretend to be some offended kid.

Mauricio Palma said...

Students don't need to have lives. We just need to study and have a few friends. And, we are multitasking right now. I'm pretty sure it'd be sad if Jake was at home ready to go to work because he had to maintain a girl he got pregnant. The thing is, he doesn't. Why? He's a kid. You, well, you are probably an adult that does have responsibilities to meet and you're work environment is being threatened. It is up to you to stand up for it.

Jakub.Wrobel said...

Why no, I am 16 years old on summer break, I have nothing other to do than to surf the internet. You on the other hand seem to be much older and in my opinion, much more depressing. That is how you have no life, by telling children that they will never make it in life. East Aurora or not, we have an education and we are not stupid enough to underestimate our education. You know how many people have told me that I can't make it in life before? Plenty. You are only a dust speck on the dirty fan of shame my friend.

Mauricio Palma said...

We just happen to be chatting on Facebook :P
Rudy came over a few days ago, and Jake has know about this blog and stuff. We don't know how else to prove that we're real. Rudy isn't posting right now because he's a tech thing.

This is a good ploy to get a student to post on this blog I would think they have better things to do. Many subjects have been brought up on this blog and not only about the band. I believe many people have tried to make a change in the school board and the administration but until those that are removed that have made the mistakes it will never happen.

As for me I would like to see all students in this district get the best education they can. This is just a avenue for people to vent and it seems the ones that think all is well will do anything to try and stop it. For the student in the band I give you credit for posting but this is the real world and maybe the new band director is good and I do believe that some of this should be let go but there is more than the band that is a stake here.

So do well with your new director and I have seen some of the programs you have done and some are good some aren't. It is not our responsibility to get you private lessons it is your job to do the best you can.

As I see how things are going here I once thought maybe they should stop the blob but I say now keep it up. I do not believe that the one person they keep saying is giving all the bad information is the one that is doing it there are others that are doing it.

We are all judged in our lives and if you believe things are right stand up for them that is what we do as we become adults.

This administration does not want anyone to come into those schools to say that anything is not alright. Keep playing in the band and if you think it is only for fun have a good time and go out and have some fun and don't get involved in the blog I would think you would have more important things to do than read a blog. By the way how much time do you spend on the internet looking at other things.

Mauricio Palma said...

A decent amount of time just surfing :P
I play along to songs on the internet to get better.
I read community stuff from time to time.
I chat with friends when my parents don't let me out.
I download music for trips (what I'm doing now)
You can have more than on window open at a time you know? Macs make that really easy :P

I appreciate your humbleness towards this blog. Ill keep this one short. If you were a student in a district that is corrupt according to this blog (the blog representing the community) and had extremely low test scores in your school, how would you feel? Add to that, a person in the community (presumably) calling you inbecils and implying that you would get nowhere in life just because I am in band? Is that how you are supposed to represent a community? I respectfully agree with what you say about this being the real world, but does a blog count? This damn blog went from honoring Mrs Nadel to this.

Someone mentioned that if we wanted to see a real band program we should go to Waubonsie Valley.

That person should have also mentioned that those programs are better because a vast majority of the students, (if not all) take private lessons. We East high kids are obviously not as economically solvent as they are, and we do not take private lessons. That being said, it's hard for us to compete with students who have been individually trained for several years. I think we would be just as good as they are if we had private lessons. Also, our band program is composed of ONE person. On the contrary, these "better" bands have several instructors, and there is a better chance for students to have one on one practices with an instructor. It's hard for one person to do everything in a band program of 120 kids.If Mr. Liska had just ONE more teacher to help him (or at least an assistant),I assure you, our band would improve.

Hello everyone! This is the 2010 Valedictorian Kristina Davison. I have read through many of the comments in this thread and one thing stands out foremost in my mind. Many have offered ad hominem attacks, but few have offered any real solutions. Let me set some errors and erroneous statements aright.

The graduation band consists of new instrumentalists who have not yet had the chance to reach the level that the previous Wind Ensemble members, most of whom were walking at the ceremony. This is not their fault; they will be given such an opportunity next year as Wind Ensemble members. The East Aurora Band works incredibly hard! I can honestly say that I would NOT be Valedictorian if I had not been a musician at EA, because through that experience I developed an intense work ethic. For years, I’ve noticed that there is a combination of problems throughout the district. With the apparent disconnect between the school, the students, and the community, each one finds some way to blame the other. With that in mind, the students, teachers, and administrators who care are completely disregarded and insulted with everyone else despite their effort. I spent years feeling this, and I finally learned that through the insults, none of these “haters” can take my accomplishments away from me.

East Aurora made me who I am, and I am intensely proud to be from here. The Wind Ensemble spends hours working for events, and I would compare the time involved to such for a part time job. We march at football games, and though it isn’t always perfect, we spend much of our time teaching the students who have never performed in such a manner to do so. I don’t feel that the middle school director worked any harder than the high school director—middle school prepared me for my entry into the high school band. I almost quit band going into high school, and it can’t be blamed on my work ethic as I actually relish hard work. Liska reignited my love for band and music. Thanks Liska . Our concerts are beautiful, and I think that those who criticize us haven’t heard one. My efforts in band led me to excel in my academics.

Kristina Davison said...

Test scores? I don’t think they measure a person’s intelligence. I welcome anyone who does to take such a test, and for the record, my test scores exceed national averages and are in the 90th percentile in the nation. I, however, know many intelligent individuals who didn’t do so well, but that doesn’t make them ignorant or stupid. Intelligence exists in different forms. I smile at the thought of those “ignorant” individuals succeeding in life. It shows strength of the inner spirit of those that might not fit in the traditional box that is District 131’s educational system. We can move forward and improve far easier without all the negativity; our district needs less division and more brotherhood. Rudy Reza does in fact exist; he is very intelligent. Such students do exist at EA. We aren’t all incompetent, in fact it is a small percentage of students that don’t care that give our band, our community, and our schools a bad name. Most of them are the incompetent ones. A Division II rating is not bad; a Division III is not good (and we haven’t received a Division III for the record). A Division II is good, or great depending on the judge, and it is something to be celebrated. A Division I is an elite rating, and the band did receive that rating.

Calling the flag girls slutty? That is mature *sarcasm*. If such attire was deemed inappropriate it would not have been worn, and the administration is supposed to do that. Everyone is entitled to their opinion, however, but such people could have stated that maybe the uniforms were too revealing or inappropriate. Insulting high school girls who didn’t have a hand in picking the uniforms does not reflect well on anyone.

Finally, we all must remember that we are all human. Stop blaming Liska. He pushes us, and expects a lot out of us. There are some students who don’t care in the band (just like there are many who don’t care in every field of man’s endeavors), I would blame the flaws on them. Any other common flaws are because we human; you can’t expect perfection. People blame Liska for the problems that occurred years ago. That was an unfortunate situation, and I am sorry for it. My sister had K, and she loves him. However, Liska didn’t come in and kick him out. He was hired, and he took a job; he can’t be blamed for that. He stepped into a horrible situation and pushed students into creating something incredible. I anticipate the day that students come back and fix the problems that many only sat back and criticized; as well as the day we as a community can appreciate the successes. Great job to those who do so. I am proud of you.
Here is a link to a research paper I wrote last year on the beneficial effects music has on adolescents. Regardless of whether anyone pursues a career in music, being involved in fine arts is a good thing.

As i said before calling teenager girls slutty is extremely uncalled for. There are other words to use. I think it is pretty awful that I an 18 year old girl has to point that out. Shouldn't it be the other way around? Regardless, the uniforms were not slutty. The girls were wearing pants, and their stomachs were completely covered.

6:20, AGAIN!

Wow, some of the ignorant blog comments here are unbelievable! Do you realize who you are talking to? EAHS band students, high schoolers, for God sakes have some intelligence. Does it make you proud to know you have told a young adult they will go no where in life nor accomplish anything based solely on the fact that they attended East Aurora High School. WOW! That blows my mind, that some of you don't even have the compassion to consider our feelings. I'm not saying we're over here crying because of what you have said, but really? How mature is it to bash a bunch of kids dreams?

Another thing, we understand where you come from on the whole Mr.Kaisershot stance. Trust me, I was there too, I did want Mr.K at the high school level, but I had him in middle school and it was great. Mr.Liska has encouraged and molded us into proud EA band members. I am not going to lie, my Fresh. year was not all that, but band is becoming better and better every year. The slow progression can be blamed on money, I mean it is a HUGE factor considering our budget. But the lack of motivation and support play even bigger roles. Maybe if all of you who have commented can come to a band concert next year and show administration just how important the Fine Arts are for us,things could change! At this point, with merely a couple hundred showing up, who is going to take it seriously? We try to advertise our shows all the time, but no one comes, you know why? Well, everyone seems to think it's crap because of people like you!

As a band with 120 students and 1 band director,I think we do pretty damn good! Why don't you talk to a WVHS band director, and ask him what it would be like if he ran the program by himself? I bet he wouldn't have a good answer, because it is HARD!

We aren't perfect, but then again we don't have private instructers or hundreds of supporters! We roll with the punches because we have no other choice, WE LOVE EA BAND!

Oh, and your comments about our test scores and low academics. I don't think you have met every student at the high school. You don't know how well everyone did, or how smart each student is. But you sure are fast to jump to conclusions. Yes, our test scores have remained low over the years but we have worked hard to change that! Unlike other privlaged communities, not everyone in our district can afford tutoring. Many don't even have time because they work to help support their families.

So how about we encourage our students, like Liska says "stive to be better than the East Aurora OK." I live by that, I am tired of all the prejudice comments about our school. How about you sit in on a Band or AP class and really see how talented we are!

Please, just grow up!

Love,

I can see why George Carlin was so repulsed by education in this country. This is a perfect example of what he preached. According to our education system "there are no losers, you're just the last place winner". You deserve a pat on the back for trying.

Wake up. In the real world, they don't care where you came from, they don't care about your family situation and they don't care if you could afford extra lessons. They do care about results. You will have to compete against the students from districts that are succeeding and produce results or you will be one of the millions who are unemployed or underemployed. Welcome to reality.

Anonymous said...

I WILL HAVE YOU KNOW THAT YES WE ARE AGAINST OTHER HIGH SCHOOLS WHO MAY BE A LITTLE BETTER THAN US BUT WE ARE PROUD TO HAVE MANY OF OUR STUDENT GET ACCEPTED TO MANY GREAT COLEGES ALL AROUND THE WORLD AND MANY RECIEVE FULL RIDES TO THOSE COLLEGES!!!

We do live in reality, we just want to prove that just because we went to EA doesn't mean we won't become successful. Although, it is blantly clear that you seem to think so. We know we'll have to fight for what's ours in the "real world" but with you guys badgering us all the time, we have had plenty of practice ;]

We will recieve an education just like anyone else and prove to you, and everyone else that East Aurora students are capable of greatness!

George Carlin also said "Not only do I not know what's going on, I wouldn't know what to do about it if I did. " You clearly don't know what's going on with us, you seem to think we don't know anything, when clearly you are the ignorant one.

Another thing all this hate for the School Board and the administrators.

Mr Muhammad cares for us and talks with us like we are adults. We have also been introduced to Dr Roberts and laughed and joked with us. He seems like a real person. Mrs Conrad is always around and you can talk with her like a real person. The school Board comes to many of our events and supports us. Mrs Johnson came and talked to all of us about how to be successful in life.
Why do the adults on this blog attack everyone? Grow up.

I'll tell you what, I'll ask the 50% of you that drop out of East High between freshman and senior year. Half of you can't even finish high school and even more of you can't pass a basic skills test. You sound like one of those last place sports teams who try to tell everyone that they are better than their record shows. Win a few games, competitions, basic skills tests etc. And people might start to believe in you. Keep making excuses and blaming everone else and you are going nowhere.

Yes, Clayton is a racist. For years he has run an illegal fraternity that is only for Blacks and Hispanics and just because he added "primarily" for Blacks and Hispanics doesn't change that fact. And if you check Illinois School Code, you will find that high school fraternities are illegal. The fact that East Aurora allows him to continue shows that they don't give a damn about you.

Yes we have a high drop out rate. But is it right to blame that on every East High student? Each individual is responsible for his/her own actions. I am not accountable for the flaws of another nor is another accountable for mine. We all realize that life outside of East Aurora will be completely different. Every high school student should know that life outside will be different. The adversity that people like you throw at us while we are young only helps us. So please continue with your insults...it helps us prepare for the "real world." :)

Rudy, yes there are at least two sources of information about the history of our school board (and administration). One is the district service center (citizens can FOIA specific information). Also, local newspapers such as the Beacon-News maintain an archive which can be accessed at the library by date.

Anonymous said...

Nice article and picture in the Beacon this morning about the EHS band going to Disney, after 5 years away. Have fun, kids!!

Anonymous said...

Yes Rudy what they do not tell you is it was another Superintendent that not only ruined the Band but the Sports programs The School Board is new other than Juanita Wells who did accuse the band of playing sour notes to make Liska look bad. Dr Gonzalez is still with the District but really can not effect change unless the Board allows and I know this will never happen.

Anonymous said...

The band isn't ruined, it's better than ever.

Anonymous said...

What happened to that person who was going to reveal themselves if you did Rudy?

Did they chicken out?

I am an infrequent reader (mostly when I'm bored, never for real information) and even less frequent commenter on this blog, but I have to say "good job!" to all the students who have been posting. Not only are you standing up for what you believe (and you will continue to get tormented and "pooped" on for that), but you are writing with incredible grammer, sentence structure, and thought processes - the best this blog has ever seen! Great job students!

Thank you for complimenting me on the beacon article, but it was not only me, a few other band members such as my good friend Nathan Acevedo, and Kendra Castleberry. I think that it was a very good oppurtunity to promote our trip and support our band. Something Clayton Muhammad does, support us. B2M, Racist? How is that possible when I am Caucasian and apart of the program?

Anonymous said...

It's not just grammer, these supposed children who claim they know little outside their own little band world are showing incredible depth of knowledge for every issue that has been discussed on this blog for years. Yes those who are writing here are showing incredible writing skills. If it is really East High students, you would think they could pass a basic skills test. Either the state tests are all screwed up or it's not East High students posting here.

Anonymous said...

So because the school is on the watch list, every student is too. One of them said they are the valedictorian, you don't think she would have good writing skills.

You people are sooooooooo clueless. And all of the comments about them not being students ruins your credibility on everything you ever talk about.

Anonymous said...

To deny their existence is easier for you because you are no match for their intellect. To dismiss them because they are "children" is easier that to accept what they say.

Your low opinion of East Aurora is pouring out with every comment you make. To accept these students for their word would mean to accept that the East Aurora School District is educating it's students, and maybe the schools are not failing, maybe the community is failing, maybe the parents are failing and maybe many of the students are failing.

Some of the students succeed, you have now talked to a few that will.

Mauricio Palma said...

hey 9:14

It's spelled "grammar".
I swear, you guys seem dumber than the drop-outs sometimes.

Jakub.Wrobel said...

That's just it. You generalize because of our test scores. If I were to say that just because our test scores are low but that doesn't mean anything? No, that's ludacris. Generalization is the cousin of racism. I can admit to you first hand that are people who don't care at our school about their future, but what school doesn't have people that don't care? I know many people as well, and I could tell you first hand that they do care about their education. The whole school isn't made up of imbeciles, and you obviously have trouble understanding that.

Mauricio Palma said...

And the reason they don't care is because thy don't have support. They've been prematurely thrown at the real world and realize they need jobs. They quit high school and get their minimum wage. Come on guys, learn your community works!

Anonymous said...

I have been teaching in this district in this district for twenty+ years and have found a few students along the way who could write that well. But when ten students show up, all writing very well with articulate thoughts, excellent spelling and grammer and really not one mistake, I am sure there is more here than meets the eye.

Not everything is what it seems, you shouldn't be quite so gullible. Remember anyone can "claim" they are anybody they want on a blog like this. I would love it if most of our students were as has been shown here, unfortunately it isn't usually so.

Jakub.Wrobel said...

I appreciate your hard work done in this district, that is something I will always appreciate, whoever you are. We have identified ourselves though, if you really wanted to, you could look us up on the internet. We are here and we are students of East Aurora, why else would we be on here defending the band? Admistration corruption or not, we are real people and we are ALWAYS generalized. How is that fair for students like us? We can read, we can write, we can play our instruments with an excellent understanding of music, people just say that we can't because we are from the East side.

Anonymous said...

If you have been teaching in this district for 20 + years and feel that way about the students, then I hope you leave soon.

Kristina Davison said...

I'm sorry but you obviously don't teach honors students or band students then. Such are benefits of being in either program. I don't exist? Email me KEDavison@yahoo.com I'll give you my phone number. You are definitely invited to look up my speech on the district website. Rudy Reza? Honestly one of the best student writers I've ever met, and I want to be a writer, so I find myself very picky. Jakub has lots of potential. I never knew Mauricio was so well written. Who knew? Anyway, you can't say that Kristina Davison doesn't exist as my speech is posted on the district website. I received compliments on how well written that was. You are complimenting us with your ignorance.

Anonymous said...

Well Jakub now we know you are a Boys II Men. Clayton is very tight with the new Board President who hates this blog as do many of the administrators namely her best friend Dr Roberts. She helped Clayton get his illegal group back in East Aurora as a business partner. Now Clayton is having his little group send hundreds of blogs out about how great you are as students. Sounds like the new Board Presidents speech to the teachers. She and Clayton now are going after this blog. When her and Dr Roberts don't get their way they just target you.

Kristina Davison said...

Then how would I be involved? That makes no sense. Why would a person jeopardize their job by involving students in some blog filled with nonsense rants? Students posted of their own free will. We take responsibility. Leave Mr. Muhammad out of it.

Anonymous said...

Wow, your paranoia runs deep. This blog is not some David taking down the Goliath that is the D131 school board. Most of the school board couldn't find their way out of a paper bag if you gave them scissors and a pilot hole. To think that some grand district conspiracy is out to take a blog off the internet, that could just be immediately recreated sounds like the rants of someone who has been huffing too much metallic paint.

Jakub.Wrobel said...

Its funny that you say that, because again you have no idea what B2M is about. It is about serving the community and being the most phenomenal we can be. I think your paranoia is getting the best of you. B2M has been around since 2002, and I am extremely proud to be apart of an organization such as that. Clayton has done nothing but spark our pride in East Aurora and in B2M helps us get out to the real world you all speak of.

Anonymous said...

Clayton is doing this at the direction of the Board President and his boss Dr Roberts. So how would he loss his job. Yes the Board can not find their way out of a paper bag. All but Johnson and Roberts disagree with them or write against them because you do not agree truth hurts and that is what you get. He has his lawyers remove teachers and attempted to have this blog shut down. Now that it is a kids chat room how many adults will want to complain about the District.

Anonymous said...

I thought you said these weren't students? You never took debate did you? Contradicting yourself when its convenient is the surest way to destroy your credibility. And the fact that you look down on these young adult simply because of their age shows how truly ineffectual you are. If you have taught in this district for 20 years, then you should have learned by now that connecting to students, building relationships, and taking yourself off the didactic pedestal will be far more effective than isolation, alienation, and condensention.

Anonymous said...

This blog is useless. It is a flea on the balls of an elephant.

Anonymous said...

I find it interesting that so many now are interested in this blog that talks about many subjects. You would think the only students that cared about is band and honor students but that is not true.

It is funny how they keep trying to shut this blog down but I'm sure if they still teach Civics in High School you should know we have freedom of speech. There are other blogs too that talk about the district are you going to try in shut them down or when a paper writes an article that you may not like do you think you can shut them down?

I think this is mainly because a board member does not like one that has left and feels that everything is fine.

Well to the students that for some reason think they should post on this blog do you think it is fair that the teachers don't have an up to date scheduling system or not have enough LCD"s for the smart boards they have or how about the old text books students are using don't you think that all students should benefit not just a few.

Mauricio Palma said...

If this where a kid's chat room, you would see us all talking to each other, but that is not the case. We are just responding to your complaints that have been posted earlier on this blog. Personally I've learned that just because I'm speaking to an adult doesn't mean that I'm speaking to someone competent, even if they work in our district.

Anonymous said...

I think somebody has a superiority complex. None of the students have talked about "shutting down the blog." You are all projecting. All the students have done is defend something they love that you like to attack. Freedom of speech goes both ways.

Mauricio Palma said...

I agree that it is unfair that teachers don't have up to date supplies in their rooms. I think it's terrible what their doing in the schools and it's become more notable in my recent years in this district, but now that I think back, I can see that it's been hoeing on for a while. What I'm talking about is the uneven distribution of money within a building. In the High School, we have the new freshman center with all of it's new rooms each with a projector and many with a smart board. At Simmons we have the new 8th grade wing that is pretty much the same thing, a new addition with more up-to -date technology. Unfortunately, there are still parts of these schools that have those smelly humid rooms without the projectors. It's conditions like these that have our teachers scrambling to sing up for the carts that have to projectors and this gets them in disagreements. It's conditions like these are the cause for the teachers walking out of their rooms and have them looking into other teacher's rooms for that damn cart. I think that the only reason we need to get new textbooks is because so much is going on. I don't know how often other schools get textbooks (could you tell me?) but I know that the only reason that our textbooks are crap is because my peers can't take care of the books. I like what the Elementary schools are doing, or at least my little brother's class. They have the students bring in dry erase markers and chalk for the teacher's use so they can use their funds on other supplies. This is how a low-economy community should work.

By loading the blog with positive Liska comments some on this blog can't take it that is what Roberts thinks. They just want to get under the naysayers skin. The teachers are all pawns in his chess match but he can not stand hearing negative news. So he directs Clayton to hit the blog with kid comments. If you felt this way before them why not wait until summer or graduation to blog.
The only reason we find interesting is it falls on the heals of a Red & Black speech he and the new President gave that everything is wonderful the kids are wonderful, the teachers are wonderful. The kids may be failing but they are winning awards. Sounds like you may be spending time with Roberts & Johnson. I know your not because both have no kids of their own. Clayton did not tell you the whole story now its back firing.

Kristina Davison said...

Why would you somehow believe that because we are students posting on this blog, we think that it is fair for teachers to be forced to teach with limited supplies and in poor condition. Of course we don't. We are students; we handle such supplies. Those of us who take of such supplies are even more appalled by the students who treat an already limited supply with such disregard. You are pulling random unfounded information out of thin air. Stop grasping at straws and address real issues.

Mauricio Palma said...

I can honestly say that I have never talked to Clayton. I've seen him ton of times though.

Anonymous said...

It's so interesting how students can see right though your bullshit.

Anonymous said...

So what do you think the real issues are and really don't you students have other things to do. I understand your feelings but no one should take a blog seriously. You don't think our concern for teachers having to supplies they need important?

As I see how these postings go on that it is true we have a bully administration and some board members. This is not the kingdom of D131 this is the East Side of Aurora and THE UNITED STATES OF AMERICA and people have a right to say what they want. Most politicians have far worse things said about them even some of ours have been named called on this blog and have the sense not to respond. We as taxpayers of the district have a right to have a blog and post on it. Most of the administration doesn't even live here or would not send the kids to this district.

Don't let these bullies take the blog off they are no one to do so. Today in the Beacon they have an article about the Near East side and how to improve it. What do people think could improve the area?

Anonymous said...

Again, no matter what you think, these kids were not sent by your "bully administrators" to "stop the blog." They are expressing their opinions.

The only people talking about stopping the blog, IS YOU.

Anonymous said...

See students how the people here MAKE STUFF UP then accept it as fact, but want you to PROVE BEYOND A SHADOW OF A DOUBT that you exist and that your postings are from yourself and not administrators.

Prove truth, but accept fantasy - that is the motto of this blog.

6:20 said...

I find it quite idiotic that some of you still seem to think we're administrators. Talk about crazy. We're just average EA students who want to stand up for ourselves. As for the teacher who seems to think it is impossible for a couple of EA students to have good grammar, well I think you should quit teaching considersing it's probably your students who fail. Your perception of our writing is most likely based on your students work, well I think you're the problem, not us. You don't even believe in your own potential as a teacher, your insecurities have led you to believe that not one teacher could have taught such good sentence structure and grammar ;]

By the way, we are not trying to shut this blog down. The blog itself is a great idea, it gives people the chance to express their opinion on certain issues. Our problem is the people who voice pure ignorance. We understand you have problems with the administration but guess what? We're not them, so stop feeding us your complaints. We're just simply sticking up for ourselves, we aren't here to fix your problems with administration.

As for BIIM, racist? Yeah, ok! The group is primarily consisting of minorites because that is the community we live in. But anyone who wishes to join can do so. Jakub Wrobel for instance is neither black nor hispanic, racist still? Illegal? Well the group is around to serve the community, connect students from all areas, and positively influence teenagers at a point in life where they need it most. What is so illegal about that? Are you just mad because someone from the disrict created something positive that you didn't have a say in?

Lets just be mature and open minded about these topics. And only voice opinion when we know what is going on.

Sincerely,
6:20

Need to rewrite that last bit, the saying is: "Deny what is true and prove what is false." I believe there is a story titled "Murders in the Rue Morgue" that have this as an underlying theme. Got to love internet politics and grandiose self images.

Anonymous said...

If you are going to bash the BllM because of its founder, you should think about what it does for the students that are invovled. It brings them together with other "rival" schools. When in that group they dont care what school you go to or what your backround is they dont care about any of it. One of there goals to help those young men to become something in life because it is hard now a days because all of these negative comments about them. Dont bash Clayton because he has helped SOOO many young men and women overcome these negative things and helps them succeed in life. When you are in that program you bascially have another family because you grow together and you want the others to succeed in life, you help one another. And i think that you should first look at all of the things that this program has helped the STUDENTS because that is what the program is for, it is for the students benifits not yours.

I give up, I'm done. You are right, everyone else is wrong. Illegal fraternities and the criminals that run them are a positive message for our children. The band sounds great, The administration and board are wonderful. This district is the best place to go to school.

Yes kids your band sounds great and the school you go to provides the same education as the other school districts. I am sure when you visit other schools you see our building are second to none. After all the West side can not even have graduation at their building because it is to small so they go to Dekalb. Look at the Hawks stage that you have you play your Band concerts at. It is a professional stage one of the largest in the area.
Sure our test scores are low but some kids come to us in high school from Mexico and can not speak English. That is ok but it brings down scores. If the naysayers on this blog had to take a test in Spanish do you think their scores would be high.
As far as last place well the whole sports program was gutted by the prior Superintendent. We also know kids in other districts get private lessons both in music in sports and do not have jobs after school to support themselves.
Do you know we are the only District to give back to the community with community service. I know when the community meets you they think you are great. That will break down the barriers not the naysayers on this blog.
Many on this blog start rumors and name call because the are bitter with their own lives you will see that in life. The reason many attack Clayton or the administration or the Board is that the new Board started saying just that and now its catching on and the administrators are starting to show Tomcat pride. Why because we are the best we just have to work a little harder. When you do you will be more successful in life. Congrads on your trip to Disney and spread the word.

When I went to school, the students were given tickets by the director. Enough to fill the auditorium and it was our responsibility to make sure the place was packed.

Have you heard nothing here, it starts and ends with you. If you want your band and your school to be great, you must take the initiative. It is your responsibility. Quit waiting for the handout.

My Job....
My job is so fucking unbelievable. I'll try to sum it up by first telling you about the folks I work with:

First, there is this supermodel wanna-be chick. Yeah, okay, she is pretty hot, but damn is she completely useless. The girl is constantly fixing her hair or putting on makeup. She is extremely self-centered and has never once considered the needs or wants of anyone but herself. She is as dumb as a box of rocks, and I still find it surprising that she has enough brain power to continue to breathe.

The next chick is completely the opposite. She might even be one of the smartest people on the planet. Her career opportunities are endless, and yet she is here with us. She is a zero on a scale of 1 to 10. I'm not sure she even showers, much less shaves her "womanly" parts. I think she might be a lesbian, because every time we drive by the hardware store, she moans like a cat in heat.

But the jewel of the crowd has got to be the fucking stoner. And this guy is more than just your average pothead. In fact, he is baked before he comes to work, during work, and I'm sure after work. He probably hasn't been sober anytime in the last ten years, and he's only 22. He dresses like a beatnik throwback from the 1960's, and to make things worse, he brings his big fucking dog to work. Every fucking day I have to look at this huge Great Dane walk around half-stoned from the second-hand smoke. Hell, sometimes I even think it's trying to talk with its constant bellowing. Also, both of them are constantly hungry, requiring multiple stops to McDonalds and Burger King, every single fucking day.

Anyway, I drive these fucktards around in my van and we solve mysteries and shit.

I appologize if I didn't jump fast enough for you and give you all the attention that you need.

Apparently, you don't understand the difference between a blog and a live chat. People don't sit at their computers all day long just waiting to respond to your pearls of wisdom on a blog. It is an exchange of intelligent ideas to which you and others like you appear illequipped to handle.

I am sure that you will understand more and be a lot less frustrated after your brain fully develops, If you do some research, you'll learn that the human brain doesn't fully develop until around the age of 25. Until then you will just have to deal with the limited function and understanding your brain provides.

Until then, you can do everyone a favor and limit your public comments to internet areas like Myspace and Facebook intended more for children.

Anonymous said...

in the meantime, you can keep avoiding the questions that you are being asked (@11:47)

Anonymous said...

Yes that is correct. In the real world, the adults around you aren't being paid to cater to you and tell you how great and intelligent you are. They don't have to pretend that your playing sounds great or your research paper has any value. In the real world, people can tell you to go Fu** yourself outright or by simply not responding at all.

Here are some other revelations for you:

You are not guaranteed success in life.
You won't be a millionaire by the time you are 25 or 30 or 40 or ever.
Chances are if you are from the East Side of Aurora, you'll never amount to more than digging holes or some other type of manual labor.
There are many more I could post bug I don't want you to leave completely dishartened.
The most important though is that life is not fair. No one is going to give you a damn thing. If you are going to succeed, you are going to have to do it on your own.

Anonymous said...

No one "insulted" or "attacked" Jake by quoting, verbatim, something he himself had put on the Internet for anyone to see.

He's the one who says he doesn't care about things that happened 5 years ago. What he may not realize is that 5 years from now a potential employer may read his blog entries or Google his name. It's called a REPUTATION. And you're never too young to be concerned about building a good one.

Anonymous said...

Why post it twice?

Jakub.Wrobel said...

Scooby Doo jokes are funny regardless.

Anonymous said...

So you see, students, this is why many of us choose not to get into it on this blog. Because the reality of the situation is that no matter how intelligent or well-thought out your arguements are, you are never going to change their minds. On the other hand, the same can be said of you, right? They will never change your mind. So the mature, and very difficult, thing to do is agree to disagree.

Unfortunately, the personal attacks make it VERY difficult to walk away. That's the biggest problem with being allowed to post anonymously - there is no accountability for what is written. (You will notice that I am posting anonymously, because as a teacher in this district, I very much fear retribution.)

So, on one hand, I congratulate you for standing up for what you believe in, and I encourage you to continue to do so, as there will always be those who try to belittle and discredit you. But on the other hand, it may be time to let go, since neither side is going to "win" and the personal attacks will keep on coming - as unfair, out of context, or just plain untrue as they may be.

Be strong, as those of you students posting on this blog are clearly some of the few who WILL get out of East Aurora and make something of yourselves. And while other posters are correct - nothing is free and you are in charge of your own future - you are on the right track and we are proud of you and all your accomplishments - no matter how small they may be!

Sincerely,
Proud EA Teacher

i feel that people should really try to understand others in their community instead of leaving ignorant comments on a blog. everyone knows there are other positions available in the district but that was not that persons question. Its true there are many applicants for the lynne's position, but like everyone else...you have to be patient and wait. And yes there are applicants inside the district.
Now to address your comments. If science or any other departments have a shortage on staff... Thats a problem that department needs to work on with the school district. As for children not learning how to read, those skills should be taught in the elementary schools, expanded all the way throughout their middle school years, and should be ready for testing when they enter highschool. its obvious the methods the district is using arent as effective as we have thought.
in the fine arts departments defense, statistics actually show that most of our honors students/excellent test takers/ well rounded students are in the fine arts department. So people need to really consider giving these children and the staff a break. what the community does not understand is that fine arts and sports motivate our children to strive

Anonymous said...

You are preaching to the choir here.
Every argument imaginable was brought to the newspapers and school board meetings supporting fine arts. First time when they moved Mr. K and then again when they so quickly chose to threaten the districts fine arts unless the referendum was passed. Actually, fine arts came on the chopping block in 131 back in the 80's also.

There is a wealth of information on the advantages of the arts you may find, with very little research.

Anonymous said...

About the EHS choir position: a new choir director has been selected. It is a woman from outside our district.

Anonymous said...

Nobody has been selected, you're a liar.

Anonymous said...

No, I am NOT lying. I'm a friend and colleague of the woman who has been selected, and she has asked me not to mention her name, so I won't.

But the new EAHS choir director IS a woman, and IS from outside the district.

And when the "official" announcement is made, you will see that I wasn't lying.

Anonymous said...

Really, a woman from outside the district. You probably have about a 90% chance of being right.

Here is my prediction:

I think the person hired wears clothes and likes to eat food.

Anonymous said...

Considering that several people from inside the district were interviewed, it would be more like a 50% chance that they hired an outsider.

And since about half the high school choir directors around here are male, about a 50% chance it would be a woman.

So much for your 90%. It would be about 25% chance of being accurate if it were only a guess.
