We have a lot to be thankful for in our district...

"What better way to assimilate our new foreign students into our culture with a celebration of our veterans. That event was really not for the veterans but for the students to actually start understanding our culture and history. Just remember, the students really are not taught US History or civics in our schools, so they have to get the real information somewhere"

NO ONE is objecting to celebrating our veterans. The objection many of us taxpayers have is to the EXORBITANT COST of the celebration! For example, there are soloists or choral groups in our community who could have sung the National Anthem for free or maybe $75-$100, but instead EIGHT HUNDRED DOLLARS was spent on bringing in someone who did a creditable job but no better than a community member or group could have done.

In this district, we need to watch every dollar. When $40,000 is spent on an event that could have been successfully produced for a fraction of that amount, you can expect to hear JUSTIFIED outrage (or "whining", as you prefer to call it)!

You must be Hanley or another upper Admin member to insult the teachers and staff who do the grunt work, yet you go on to justify the district wasting so much money intended for the lower SES students of our district. Do you think most of the students remember how someone earns the Medal of Honor? Or what a rear admiral is? And most of the students are not from other countries. Their parents, maybe. You know this. Get your act together and come up with some better arguments other than teachers wish to be idolized. If that were true, explain why they enter a thankless profession.

Congratulations Matt Hanley you have managed to do what no community relations person has done. D131 overwhelmingly authorized a strike vote tonight. It is interesting today, it was pointed out that this is the first strike vote in 170 years . Matt do realize you are the most hated person in district. What an accomplishment.

You have to understand, this is the perspective of a man whose life goal is to have his name as author on a book or printed on a byline. Unlike the last PR guy, who was raised up thru the district schools, and was very active with mentoring young people. Their job titles and duties may have been similar but their perspectives of the community are very different.
Matt and others like him who have no connection to our districts educators or the EA community other than a job or being a disgruntled taxpayer. They do not realize the real struggles our community members have, nor do they understand how those things impact the classrooms. It is about a pay check and a tax bill to them. To justify their thought process, they make teachers the scapegoats for all the district's problems and continue by belittling the teachers profession and question their integrity. If only any of the critics could truly walk a mile in an EA teachers shoes.

The Aurora Beacon News has covered many of the strike votes and problems the teachers have in their District and I also was wondering why they have printed nothing about our D131. Sure there a bad teachers but there are more goods than bad. Just from some of these post about teachers you can see some and I believe a few posters are form the Board don't value teachers.

This Board of ED 131 knew about the Flags and Speakers for the Veterans Day Event and probably was at the Event. So why did it take them until someone spoke up about the money being spent did they start to do anything? Also they might look into things but they will never do anything about it.

Good for you Teachers of D131. I hope now someone will hear your vote. I know Channel 5 has had news about other districts striking so give them a call.

This is Matt's fault, how?

How many flags were stolen from the perimeter of the school? Guess we don't own those anymore! When the Athletic Director's assistant was told to sign for this Veteran's Day budgetary fiasco she refused as she was not responsible for any of it. She quit because of pressure to sign for these expenses. Another attempt to pass blame to protect those who were really responsible!

The article in the Beacon today addresses the fact that the office of the Inspector General/Dept. of Education came to the school to address the previous financial blunders made in the Building and Grounds Dept.in particular. The district's atty. addressed this with a 12 thousand dollar response; a bunch of legal terminology stating that there was indeed plenty of misspending, but that Christi Tyler is/has remedied it and that none was for personal gain. That old habits die hard?
Make NO mistake. There were indeed criminal goings on within the B&G Dept. that can be proven. The question is why the cover-up and why was no action taken by the state? Why not prosecute those responsible and try to recover some of that money back from those responsible? This is a feasible option.

Not one single flag was stolen!!!

Matt Hanley had emailed district staff that he will not met with them in the evening or attend events. He puts his children to bed. That is really nice Matt. Do you realize many children in this district have parents that are still working at 7 pm to put food on the table or many children in this district do not have a bed. If he had any ethics he would resign.
