Broadcasting School Board meetings allows community members to know what is happening at the meeting. There is NO valid reason why our district cannot put its meetings online, as many of our neighboring districts do!
I did show up for last Friday's School Board meeting, but was not allowed in the building because the room was full. There were several dozen of my fellow citizens standing outside with me. Just one more reason to put those meetings online.
Evidently transparency & respect for the community they supposedly serve is not reason enough for our administration to join the 21st century and put School Board meetings online. No, in THIS district we have to FORCE it to happen.
We definitely have the technology available; after all, the football games and rah-rah staff events are broadcast on our district website.
The board should of anticipated that there was going to be a big crowd and could of held that meeting at one of the schools that's what other districts do that respect the community members. This board didn't want everyone to get in. That meeting was a fire hazard and even with the police there they did not call anyone. If by chance a fire started not everyone would of got out.
There has been times when they gave awards out at a meeting and after told the ones that where there they could leave tells you they don't want people there. They should say if you want to see how a school board runs stay for just a minute to see.
Yes 8:42 you have to force it. So stop whining and get to work. What a baby. Most things aren't handed to you and if things are not the way you want them, you make the change happen. Baby.
Well I live in Oswego & work in D131, and I can tell you there was no forcing involved in D308's decision to put school board meetings online.
An enlightened, considerate administration decided to join the 21st century and broadcast meetings so the entire community could be informed. No coercion was necessary, because D308's motivation was the best interests of students, parents, and taxpayers--NOT preserving the secrecy and precious "IMAGE" of administrators.
Proviso has a math and science academy that is geared towards academically gifted children. The only requirment to get into the East's Magnet school is a child must meet the basic skills handed down from the state of Illinois. Thats it! East's plans are nothing more than a front using East tax payers dollars to buy another building to relieve the overcrowding at other district schools. Do not be fooled this is another PR campaign by East leadership. This will be another school that will be on AYP. Has anyone seen the test scores of the current Magnet School children? Nope. And you won't because its all just a scam to buy more buildings to house more kids because the homes on the east side are packed with two, three and four families.
Let's all remember that Johnson ran on the platform of getting rid of Roberts (but voted to extend his contract so that she could run the district) and that the district did not need the magnet school (now she takes full credit for the magnet program).
The District/Board is so wrong to put Ms. Aird on leave and yet goose neck looking Joan Glotzbach still sitting in her office thinking of who elso to fire at no cause she should of been put on leave to!!!She also must be so far up Johnson's butt!!SAD!!!!
It's offical East High ranks 589 out of 684 in the entire state! All under the leadership of Jerome Roberts and Conrad. Why are these two still employed be D131?
Yeah, it makes you wonder why. I would like to know why the local paper has not written a story about how horrible most all the schools in Aurora are except for the far east side. So when you hear Johnson bang the drum remember these statistics are fact and not spin.
According to SchoolDigger.com Aurora East School District 131 is ranked 772 out of 779 school districts in Illinois. That puts us solidly in the bottom 1% of the state.
Couple our bottom of the barrel ranking with all the scandals at the Central Office Administrative Level and it will call into question any board members judgement who is still supporting these administrators.
There are at least 17 different buildings now in District 131. The only consistent factor in all of these school failures is poor leadership at the Central Office. These administrators can not even take care of business in their own offices. Does anyone really believe they can run a school system?
It's way past time to clean house at Central Office. Society has been screaming for teacher accoutability for years. When are they going to realize that what's really needed is administrator accountability? The administrators are the ones who set policy, set curriculum, set budgets, set salaries, etc. In short they set all the conditions for educating our children. Why then, does all the blame fall on the teachers?
Hello school board, it's time to wake up and give the children of District 131 what they need, a fresh start with competent administrators.
A deplorable 3.2% of juniors are considered college ready at east high.
Only 21 graduates at east high went on the 4-year colleges. TWENTY ONE!!!!
There's even more, but isnt the question why we have a board president and boad so focused on the finances, a transgenered policy, insurance premiums yet nothing on academics. Why is Dr. Roberts still at the helm?
What I would like to know is where is the Mayor of Aurora - Tom Weisner and the alderman saying this is not acceptable and we are going to do something about it?
Yes we have all heard about School Digger. We have all been told by Johnson we are in the bottom 5%. She brought this up last year. Scores went up 9% she will tell you it is because of her system of merit pay. I can tell you it is because of the programs Dr Roberts put in place. Read 180, Magnet, balanced literacy, the PLC Model are all 5 year programs and starting to work.
Its time the board stops the blame game. If you are all so great, why are none of your grandchildren or children on the honor roll. Dr Roberts, Aird and Childress along with are many great Principals and teachers need to be given credit.
21 is pretty ridiculous, but I think most high schools have seen at least SOME reduction in students going on to 4 year schools because of the economy. On the other hand, enrollment at 2 year schools is up.
Maybe if the old board of Mccue,Farmun, Wells, Barario, and company would have paid the correct wages we would not have been such with Roberts. To date Roberts des not make $235,000. There is a old story you get what you pay for.
Sometimes there's a direct route to our goals... and sometimes it takes awhile to achieve them!

Why is it that sports teams that have 20 kids get two coaches and classrooms that have 30+ get one teacher? Just an observation.

If you are expecting change to happen without forcing it, you are CRAZY.
Imagine what would happen if EVERY school board meeting was overflowing like that. They would have to change something because the public demands it.
They are not going to change anything unless there is a reason to change something.

Johnson was not even in the picture when the Magnet Academy was started. Roberts and just came on board.

Old news the scores are up by 9 percent this year under Roberts. The scores have been down for years under Ponquette n Radocivich too.
