Looking forward

Our unusually warm weather has many of us looking forward to summer. The hiring of former Chicago Bear Kurt Becker as our new coach has many of us looking forward to football season. Our hard-working students and staff are looking forward to spring break. What other good things are we looking forward to in District 131?

The reason we have a school board is so that there is somebody accountable to the community for the decisions being made in our schools.

If the board is going to approve a new bus service with it's additional 1.7 million dollars in fees, they are going to have to explain to the community why this is a necessary expenditure come the next election.

I don't see how they will be able to explain such a huge increase but I'm sure they will be considering all this as they deliberate.

The board is going to have to answer about why they have sat back and did nothing as a child was beaten by an administrator.

I'm sure the community will also want to know why a special needs child was being tormented month after month while they again did nothing.

You would think that they would feel obligated to protect children when the parents are down at board meeting after board meeting with new tales of beatings, sexual assaults, etc.

Apparently, the only thing the board is capable of doing, is spending our tax dollars. It's bad enough when the spending is necessary but it's inexcusable when they decide to spend an extra 1.7 million dollars for the same services we are currently receiving.

D129 in there board book has the bids and information about The Special Ed Busing if you really want to know about this go there you won't get this kind of information from our board. Also, this started in March I think they should of let the parents of Special Ed know that there might be a change.

I see they are going to do the re election of officers how much you want to bet there will be no change. When Johnson did this and changed the policy of the length of term for officers it was to give everyone a chance to hold an office. It is time for a change Johnson is getting out of control.

RE: The math

The RichLee Vans-Aurora total bid for one year (176 school days) is the lowest at $4,708,438.24. The second lowest bid is $5,584,529.28 (Durham). That is an annual difference of $876,091.04 x two year contract = $1,752,182.08.

--just saying.

I agree. Tonight the board elects the new president. We should all say a prayer that they wake up and DON'T elect Johnson back as president.

Also-I found proof that Jerome is living in Theodia Gillespe's house on Lincoln. Shouldn't that be a major conflict since:
1) the district contracts the Urban League (to the tune of hundreds of thousands of dollars per year)
2) the ethics of the Urban League are in question (i.e. students not getting services agreed upon, etc)
3) the reason that Raquel Wilson was not asked back was because she was investigating the Urban League and Theodia pushed Roberts to get rid of her before her findings became public...

The blog master ran for the Board and has a opinion about everything. Funny she could not fill out her term. Back seat driver yes destroyer of the district certainly.

3:07 p.m., there have been several other School Board members who have stepped down when circumstances were such that they were unable to continue their term. For example, Carol Farnum; would you say that she, also, was a "destroyer of the district"?

3:07 p.m., not as funny as how Juanita Wells' hand-picked replacement was unable to be seated on the Board, because she didn't follow the election laws.

The only problem with the teacher pension system is that we have politicians who use the fund as though it is a bank where they can borrow money they have no intention of ever repaying.

The fact is the teacher pension system costs no more than the retirement package in the private sector (Social Security and Medicare).

Unfortunately, financial mismanagement occurs from our State Legislators who first drove the state into debt and now want to raid every resource possible.

Our state legislators approved some 125 different tax increases last year alone, including the largest income tax increase in history and yet they still can't manage our state resources. They want to cut every social service, yet still have the money to funnel into their campaign contributors.

Look at road repair alone. Indiana spent 8 billion, Wisconsin 4 billion. What did Illinois spend? 21 billion. If Illinois put just a one year moratorium on road construction, we could fund every social program including our school systems, knock our debt down to 0 and have money in the bank.

It's very simple, our representatives stopped representing the people of this country long ago.
