Resolutions and priorities

Here we are nearing the end of January! It's a time when many of us have made (and possibly already broken) resolutions about how we intend to improve certain things in our lives. Maybe we're trying to exercise more or save money; maybe we've resolved to keep our temper under control or maintain a positive attitude at our job; maybe we've just decided to make the most of each day as it comes.

What can we do in this new year to make our district better? And what seems to be working well, that we can celebrate and resolve to continue?

Please don't post things from the paper because they are copywrited so it would be a good idea to remove that post.

The Beacon also has an article how The West Side has changed their policy on bulling.

So we are all ok with this blog breaking copyright laws.

What a bunch of hypocrites. Maybe we should have a list, which laws can be broken and which laws cannot.

I guess if breaking the law supports your personal agenda, posting copyrighted material or slandering somebody publicly, those are ok laws to break.

7:15 a.m., if it is against the law to post a copyrighted article on a blog, it is probably also against the law to use copyrighted images (such as Disney characters) for T-shirts or concert posters.

Pot calling the kettle black??

I am absolutely dumbfounded at this whole situation, but I guess I shouldn't be. The PR spin on the kid who brought a 357 into school last week says it all. How is it even remotely possible, in today's climate, that a student who brings a gun to school is not immediately expelled under a zero tolerance policy designed to keep our student's safe? The young boy who was at the meeting Monday is now being smacked around daily. Unbelieveable! Who is endangering this child? They should be charged with child endangerment, but they won't. If god forbid something extremely awful happens to this child, still nothing will change- but we will get a finely tuned statement, not an apology from the fine PR department. You know, "it's just kids being kids".

5 minutes until another day of cheats, coverups, blame and misguided, completely misguided nonsensical drama. Teaching? Its on the backburner- saving jobs and minding oneself is the daily agenda. Is it 3:15 yet?

It's difficult to argue with stupid people but here we go:

You need to actually read about copyright law, before posting about it.

There is a provision in the law called "Fair Use" which holds some safety nets for the public to use comprighted material without breaking the law.

Quote from Wikipedia "To justify the use as fair, one must demonstrate how it either advances knowledge or the progress of the arts through the addition of something new. A key consideration is the extent to which the use is interpreted as transformative,"

The band shirt you speak of, was not a Disney Character, it was a progression of a Disney character which transformed the work into SOMETHING NEW.

Now regarding the posters that you speak of -

Quote from Wikipedia "In general, the less that is used in relation to the whole, ex: a few sentences of a text for a book review, the more likely that the sample will be considered fair use."

Also from Wikipedia, "The first factor is regarding whether the use in question helps fulfill the intention of copyright law to stimulate creativity for the enrichment of the general public."

Now, wheather or not these posters fall under these two quotations is really up to you to decide - Not much material was used and it is there to notify the public of an amaizng event. But to flat out say it is against the law, is really just childish and petty (that IS what you are, because you can't get over it).

Now, copying and pasting an entire article would be against the law and that is difficult to debate.

I await your ignorant response.

7:23 I really like that you said the word "probably." You know what that says to me. You don't have a clue - you are just guessing. If you would do a 5 minute google search, you might actually learn something. The internet is more than just this blog. There are other web sites too you know.

It looks like 8:00 actually did some research and found FACTS to support their opinion instead of just stating something like they had a clue.

Any questions - You can disagree with 8:00 over their theory of fair use - but you not agreeing with them, does not make you right.

It's not just this SpEd kid getting beaten up at Simmons. The SpEd kid is just the only one whose family has gone to the school board.

There were three big fights just this past Friday at Simmons. The administration has been complacent for so long, violence is now just part of the culture in that building.

If anybody remembers the movie "Lean on Me". There is a scene at the beginning of the movie that shows the violence that was occurring in their building and then a child who was stuffed into a locker. The child is repeatedly crying for help but nobody is listening. Simmons is about as close to that situation as any school in reality could be.

This is not a new revelation, teachers and parents have been expressing concern for years about the deplorable conditions in that building.

I'd plead for the board to do something but they have already reveled their stripes. Suspend the teacher speaking up and send a letter to the parents "The matter is closed". Standard operating procedure for District 131.

And the beatings continue.
