Is it possible for a school district to have a high degree of transparency and accountability, as well as maintain a positive image in the community? Can we "agree to disagree" on some issues, while having as our ultimate goal doing what's best for students?
And what questions would we ask those candidates who are hoping to represent us on the School Board this spring?

If it is true about the dinner one would have to ask even if the board approved it is it legal? Is this what the district is suppose to be doing with our money and is it ethical. Should a district be giving a board member a dinner like that on their dime. Should any board member get something like that.
Wasn't Wells the one that had something to say about the community not passing referendums?
We have teacher going on donorschoice.org asking for things for their classrooms that are needed and this district can give someone a 7,000.00 dinner it must of been a heck of one.
We are a low poverty district and get money for that while many district aren't getting their money from the state and they are laying off teachers and other workers, cutting programs and other things in their districts. We have families in the district where they go hungry and do without things they need. We have elderly that go without medicine or basic needs but decided two years ago to pass a referendum for the good of our students in this district. In return this district shows how they can mismanage money by giving a public official a $7,000.00 dinner on the districts dime. The same one that spoke against the taxpayers about how for years they wouldn't pass a referendum. When you think that even some don't live in this district and think they are entitled to these things it makes you believe that what some have said is true they are only in it for themselves. These are people that say they are GOD fearing and go to church and yet they steal from the students and taxpayers of this district.

They see a charge for $7000, then they hear that maybe somebody might have thrown a party. Then they say to themselves, THOSE MUST CONNECT. Then all the morons take it for fact, and get all pissed off, and then start insulting people that did nothing wrong.
If you have enough people attending, include food, drinks, entertainment and hotel rooms, it's not that hard to reach $7,000 in an evening.
This blog is a travesty and a complete embarrassment to District 131. It simply proves that nothing in our district gets done because everyone is too busy gossiping and pointing fingers. I have worked in the district for over 10 years and have never been satisfied with the central office, the school board or the adults in this community and this blog, full of anonymous he said/she said immaturity speaks volumes as to what the district's priorities are. If I close my classroom door, life is good. The students of the east side of Aurora and my wonderful colleagues are the reasons I stay in this otherwise godforsaken district.
This site should be taken down immediately. No wonder our students fight over such petty things - the adults in their community are setting the example for them!
No wonder they don't care about grammar and punctuation! The adults in their community, who claim to care, and some of whom serve on the Board, can't take the time to write correctly either!
Either make this site what it should be - a place for sincere and intelligent dialogue about the goings-on of D131 - or shut it down. Instead of blogging here, go to sites where you can learn about how to change education for the better. Look into a man named Geoffrey Canada. How I would love to work for someone like that!
The problem with education isn't just a 131 problem. It's a national problem. Stop whining and complaining and embarrassing the community and find ways to fix the problems! Cut all the administrative jobs that are for show and get down to business! Get rid of the central office building and house administrators in actual school buildings! Maybe then the students and teachers could actually put names to the faces that make all of their decisions for them! Stop sending administrators to Spain for new teachers when we have thousands of highly qualified teachers HERE!
