Thanks so much for starting this blog! I was a regular reader of the Openline blog, and we SO much needed a blog specifically for District 131.

This district used to be great--maybe this new superintendent and hopefully a new school board can start to overcome all the secrecy and political maneuvering of the past couple of years!

Does anyone know if any of the Board Members will be there as well?

You could ask them tonight at the Board meeting at 7pm :o)

I see that you have some good links to information people might have questions about and they can click on those links to find the answers. The Champion.org is a good source and has lots of information and news articles to read.

Does anyone know who's running for School Board? Seems to me that it would be in the current board members' best interests to show up at the forum tomorrow night, if they really want to convince people they're willing to hear public questions and concerns.

Think anyone will show up tonight?

Thanks for providing the Champion.org website. I was appalled at the amount some of these east side teachers were making for 9 months of work. I was even more shocked at the amount of increase they earned in 6 years. In some cases a 45% increase. I wish my social security would jump that much. And then they have the nerve to ask us to pass a referendum. HA! NEVER.

Anyone know how to get a copy of all the people and businesses that donated money and services to help pass the referendum this last time around. Would be reall interesting to see the names that line that list.

The Champion.org is a great site for info from all over the state, but if you think 131 personnel are making a lot (or better still too much), compare it to those in Naperville District 203 and Indian Prairie District 204 with the same years of experience or less! WARNING! Better have a difibrilator handy for the heart attack you will incur! The whole FV area seems to be ripe with fat.

Don't compare schools districts 203 and 204 against 131. It's like comparing Beverly Hills with Detroit.

Anonymous said...

that is hardly true. 204 is on the decline and Nequa did not make AYP. There are some ratty neighborhoods in these districts too. I would compare it as Naperville to Aurora.

12:50, do you have any stats to back up your assertion that "204 is on the decline"?

Otherwise it just seems a cheap stab, which I'm sure you'll agree should be avoided.

Yes, lets be careful what we state here. D204 has 8 out of 36 schools in early warning. They are middle schools and high schools. This school district has Kane, Dupage and Will counties in the district. You can look this up at www.iiec.niu.edu/
Just to let everyone know I'm in D131 and just want everyone to get facts right first.

You may want to get the school incident reports that details the crime within the schools. I have seent them for 204.

Look at the AYP progress over the last few years.

The perception (which is reality) is Waubonsee is not longer the premier high school in the area and its student population is becoming less desirable to various people I have spoken too.

East Aurora on the other hand has facilities that are some of the best maintained buildings I have seen. Now if they work on getting some diversity in the student popluation, recover their credibility, and get some fiscal responsibility in place, East will be a force to be reckoned with...again.

"East Aurora on the other hand has facilities that are some of the best maintained buildings I have seen."

At a premium rate,in some cases. I have heard among the ranks, there is a lot of wasted money in maintenance. Those at the bottom of the totem pole see it, but do not want to put their own jobs in jeopardy, by reporting it.

There seems to be plenty of funds for the buildings and grounds. But not enough in the educational kitty. What good are well maintained buildings-running well and a clean safe environment, is an expectation where our kids spend the majority of their days.

what's the point if the buildings purpose is not fulfilled. Mainly, to have all students attend daily and graduate with a decent education.

And who are these people you speak with? Waubonsee--That is the community college. The real spelling is Waubonsie

Really, Waubonsie has a better rep than East and West Aurora high school combined
