Speaking of July 4th, I can't wait to see our Band Camp kids marching in the parade!

The weather has been great and more than 200 participants have been rehearsing and developing teamwork skills at beautiful LaSalle Manor. Band Camp is a 30+ year tradition in our district and almost didn't happen this year, but because of Ms. Johnson, Ms. Huggins, persistent parents, and THIS BLOG our students are benefiting from a grEAt experience.

Let's cheer them as they march by in the parade on Monday!!

Yes! Yes! Some common sense!!! "Just do your job". We need a lot more of that. When the new admin people come in, go up to them and ask "What can I do to help you??" Not "Hey, scumbag, you are here for me, me, me, me, me. So kiss my ass and do what I unfairly demand of you!!. And if I didn't come across clearly the first time, you are here for me, the teacher, and no one else. So, kiss my behind." Do, YOUR job and maybe, just maybe things will turn out better.

Remember, doing the same thing again and again and expecting different results is the definition of insanity. So, teachers, staff and maintenance don't be your usual crass selves and do YOUR jobs!!!!!!!! Ask others how you can help!!!!! This could rally catch on. There really is something here. This could really eliminate the union mentality of doing nothing while at work.

Imagine.....A whole district of people doing THEIR jobs. This could be the thing that turns the whole country around!!!!!!

Just catching up on emails this morning. WOW, did anyone read the employment background of Crespo. He went from teaching bible class and one month of charter school only to move to Florida and apply for a substitute teacher position. To clarify Florida allows someone to teach and receive a teachers certification without any formal training. In Florida, Crespo was able to product his online degree a teach. WOW, to formal class management classes or all the other classes we take to provide a quality education for students. What happened to the building principal having five years of formal teaching experience in a HS.

Popp broke every rule to hire Crespo. He has less experience than a first year teacher. Let's hope the new sups put an end to the Popp fiasco.

The teachers are the only ones who do their jobs, asshole. In the last twenty years teachers teach, act as nurses, social workers, do the mountains of ever increasing paperwork that comes across our desks from the initiatives that change EVERY year, clean our own rooms, write our own curriculum, serve on multitudinous committees without pay, and serve as PPA's out in the hallways breaking up fights, etc. We are not complaining, but don't tell me how we don't work -we do our jobs and several others as well. If it wasn't for us, you would have no gig, oh unenlightened one.

I am very pleased to read Johnson feels these interim superintendents are capable. If she is hands off, maybe professionals can hire professionals and teachers will be allowed to be teachers and so on....until 131 can be back in the business of educating and not accommodating people with special favors. I.e. Hiring and contracting friends.
As far as community relations goes, before Roberts, the district had one person who was in charge of making sure district news was posted and communicated to the media and through the district. They were NOT a spokesperson but more of a media liaison. Roberts bumped up the duties and pay when Mr. Muhammad had the position and it just got crazy after that.

Our district needs to put people in admin positions with specific duties and goals and quit moving people and realigning the jobs, unless they are failing at accomplishing goals designed by the supt. and board. Then don't change the job duties to accommodate the person Remove the person. They need to make sure basic reading, writing and math is taught with behavior and social expectations starting in elementary classroom. Simple, defined consequences that include involving the parent need to be enforced.
I am wishing good things to come and hoping our board continues to work together for the good of the children and teaching staff. Prioritizing on giving them all the tools necessary for success in the classroom.

Another insiders viewpoint said...

I think the board may have this one right. There is major difference today at EA and that is Hoyda one of the new interim's actually meets with staff and defines goals and deadlines. Hoyda stated early on she will not move staff around. Staff must come to her with solutions and prove why they are doing or asking for something. She is very hands on and everyone is learning from her.

Popp hired friends and would hide in his office. He used Hanley for is personal public relations person. GLotzbach and Truckenbrod ran the district and Popp never formed an opinion. Meeting with Popp and GLotzbach would go in circles and when staff finished no decisions happened. GLotzbach would change her mind in the same sentence. Truckenbrod described students as over medicated and so poor they lack the social emotional skills to be educated.

Roberts checked out years ago and allowed inept administration to run the district. He never questioned what was not going on. The board under Johnson needed to become active. DIstrict 131 had to many prior boards who either lined their pockets with the serial bully or just checked out.

The change of 131 is with the leadership and hiring interim's with proven records will work. If McDonald is anything like Hoyda the district will become the district it should have been years ago. As for Johnson she seems to be back into the role of board president in a high functioning district. Her test was supporting Hoyda and McDonald when some BOE members wanted Byrd. He was political like Popp and would have put the district backwards. We have hope and are looking forward to our collaboration committees which both superintendents will take turns attending. Six major committees shows their commitment to us and their focus on addressing issues.

Another insiders viewpoint said...

I'm not sure where you are on the Nside but you have no clue. Johnson is the Architect of moving ad min around. Repurposing position is her MO. That is how Beatrice became assist superintendent under Roberts; she was Johnsons lapdog. Beatrice brought in Reymon. Johnson wanted Beatrice to resemble Latimer at 129. The problem was she was not qualified. wanted Glotzbach was repurposed numerous times under Robets at Johnson direction. Johnson would come to the service center , barge into Roberts office slam his door and begin screaming and making threats on a good day. He checked out because he was going through an ugly divorce and Johnson Constance threaten to fire him if he did not comply . He knew she had at least 3 boe votes . She would never have actually did it but he couldn't take the chance because she was too volatile and he was too close to retirement . Hoyda and McDonald can operate with autonomy because they are supplementing the 6 figure pensions with double digit compensation . Johnson is under pressure to stand down because if Hoyda walks away then what.

Going back said...

I worked under three superintendents retiring under Popp because I could not take the corruption and horrible administratio not to mention cronyism of 131.

Radocvich ran the old boys club. In the afternoon he would go to the "cave" Melchors basement and drink with Melchor and McCue. Both gained financially off the district Melchor with his house and McCue with his business. Radocvich when he could not steal any more retired.

I worked under Glotzbach and knew what was going on.
He was never at work from the day he became superintendent. When he was married it was always an excuse. Traffic from Joliet, driving his stepson to school , the broken foot, then he was going blind. Glotzbach would never record days off for Roberts and in turn was given compete control. Johnson took control away only after the big embarrassment of credit cards, insurance, lost records, bad reference checks, the grant fiasco, and the Aird personal agenda policy. They all were in a click. The district was ready to go broke again and Johnson stopped that. Johnson was respected until she made a deal with Leonard and hired Feltes. Feltes was bring in cronies and Johnson attempted to stop it. Leonard made a deal to keep Feltes at any cost and that's how the district ended up to the unqualified Popp. The rest is history and just when everyone was thinking Radocvich and Roberts were the most inept Popp took it to a new low.

Johnson has made her mistakes but overall she cleaned things up. The other board members are never mentioned but they all received favors also. I am not sure Johnson got anything out but word is the district is getting better. Glotzbach alone was a big moral boost and her reign of terror is over.

That meeting was more than TWO MONTHS AGO!!

How much are we paying the folks in the central office to NOT do a job they are REQUIRED by law, to post minutes in a timely manner??

Many thanks said...

Thank you for the video the students sounded great. Ms Huggins always does great job. My daughter loved it and a good time was had by everyone.

I also want to thank Ms Johnson for following up and making this happen along with Mr Garcia. If parents have problems they should call her she knows the right people to get moving. As a parent I feel she is and advocate for children. I have personally heard Mr Darby and Strand bad mouth her but they do not return calls and if they do no action is taken. When someone advocates they are considered angry. Perhaps we need more board members to get angry. The administration thinks we are a bunch of low lives because we live in 131. Mr Truckenbrod was trying to stop band programs in the lower grades. He actually told me it is not the schools business to offer programs at an lower grade level and we should be thankful. With all of this working against us we still pulled it off. Ms Huggins will be back next year and will continue to help students. East Aurora is getting better and I am glad to see Mr Thuckenbrod gone.

From: Ralph Padron
Subject: Compare the Facts
High School Principal Anthony Crespo “Questionable Hiring”

Please review the attached documents gathered via FOIA & ISBE website
Again the facts raise serious questions/concerns on another questionable hiring by Superintendent Michael Popp.

1 Crespo has ONLY AN ADMINISTRATIVE DEGREE
2 In 2014 he applied for 3 positions at EA & was NOT HIRED
Asst Principal Simmons Middle
Asst Principal for Supplemental Programs at East High
Principal at Hermes Elementary

What happened in 1 year that qualified him for Principal at East High when he could not be selected for Asst Principal?

1 YET in 2015 he is hired with ZERO experience as a principal adding to that
East High has a very large staff & enrollment
2 Crespo has NO TEACHING DEGREE resulting in not understanding the concerns
And problems on a daily basis of the teachers and staff at East High
3 Simply he has no experience “walking in their shoes” resulting in an atmosphere of a non-experienced Principal being allowed to lead a very difficult scenario resulting in CHAOS
4 How many truly dedicated staff have left and continue to leave as a result of his lack of leadership. Get a summary of those whom have departed suddenly.

Compare his credentials with those Principals
A Former East High Spencer Byrd & Sheila Conrad
B current Middle & Elementary principals Mechelle Patterson & Noah Little

NOT EVEN CLOSE, yet Mike Popp does the unthinkable-
1 Hires Crespo for $ 11.5 K more than advertised
2 Totally disregards the lack of Teaching Degree’s and Experience
3 Ignores he could not even be hired as an Asst Principal at 131

Did anyone notice his application stated 3 yrs experience as Principal
TOTALLY FALSE ANSWER

Factual Information
1 Does not have a secondary teaching certificate in the state of Illinois
2 The job posting said 5 years of successful high school teaching experience REQUIRED.
3 His evaluator certification was only to evaluate assistant principals in 2016, thus was not even legally allowed to evaluate assistant principals until the second semester, which means any evaluations he did on them before January 2016 are illegal and should be thrown out.

4 Has an international business degree for his bachelors NOT a degree in education.
5 He only was able to teach in Florida because anyone with a bachelor’s degree can.
6 He also allegedly "student taught" for 5 years which is questionable since student teaching is for one semester through an education program at a college.

Please review his application research as much more to follow soon

Attached are his applications from

1 East Aurora
2 Proviso
3 Osceola County Schools

Thank you

Ralph

Rumor has it...
The day before graduation King Crespo had multiple DC's in his office trying to force them into changing teachers grades to boost graduation numbers. The DC's refused and should be applauded for having the integrity that King Crespo doesn't have.

There should be an investigation into this highly unethical if not illegal behavior.

Two cents worth said...

A few years back (as the story goes) a principal felt under pressure to have better grade results at the elementary level and changed a few things on the records. It was found out, and the principal was fired. This was in EA. DC should make this known to the new people in charge.

"Many Thanks" said: "Mr. Truckenbrod was trying to stop band programs in the lower grades. He actually told me it is not the schools business to offer programs at an lower grade level and we should be thankful"

Here's a link to a blog thread that includes a discussion about our district's fifth grade beginning band program:

http://ea131.blogspot.com/2015/01/what-lies-ahead-for-illinois-first.html

A parent was saying that their child's director made a comment that D131 was considering eliminating fifth-grade band and starting band in sixth grade. Other parents chimed in and said that starting band in 5th grade is the best "fit" for our kids, especially considering our mobile population and the fact that families in our district are less likely to provide private lessons to help students "catch up" that extra year's instruction. And,this article was especially scary:

http://www.dailyherald.com/article/20131209/news/712099672/

Notice that the D204 superintendent ("Serial Bully" Radakovich's ex, Kathryn Birkett) basically told concerned parents that administration didn't care about their concerns; she and the D204 administration were eliminating fifth-grade band.

Like you, I am glad that Mr. Truckenbrod is leaving, along with Dr. Popp. I wish them good health and success in another district; they were NOT a good fit for us and our kids!

well, well said...

Here is another rumor.........

Teachers and staff will actually ask what they can do to make the new principals and administrators' lives easier as they transition into the district. They will also extent this courtesy to existing leaders as well.

If this occurs, there should be an investigation into this highly contagious if not beneficial behavior.

It's coming..... said...

Dear Band Parent:
Be prepared. The district has already given local music organizations the heads up. They plan on cutting our younger band program and will allow others to come and teach our children for free. It has already started with some schools last year at the elementary level. Not the cuts but the music instruction by other programs.

Another lie said...

Kathy Birkett retired from D 204 2 yrs ago.

Too Bad said...

Ms Stovall didn't do her homework on the lack of support of previous Black administrators at East. Her career is marred permenently. You cannot develop individuals who refuse to transcend color of people in leadership positions. She will be maligned within 6 months.Hopefully Ms Hatchett does not become too close with her because she will be compelled to defend her once the staff turns on her

Ummm... said...

The article is from 2013. A quote:

"Superintendent Kathy Birkett said they are moving forward as an administrative decision without a board vote".

Where's the lie? No one said she was the PRESENT superintendent.

Learn to read before you criticize, moron.

Silence is not an option said...

My understanding is that the free programs such as music and sports camps (some taking place this summer!) are in addition to instruction during the school day, not instead of it. Hundreds of students benefited from our district's summer band camp, which was quickly rescheduled last month after someone dropped the ball. Our kids deserve nothing less than a high quality educational experience, and we parents refuse to sit by and let people in an ivory tower office dictate what THEY think is best for us!

You can count on us to speak up for our kids, especially when it comes to things like continuing great traditions in our district!

Band believer said...

It is true Truckenbrod was ending the lower grades band program. He claimed students would gain instruction time. What Truckenbrod forgets is this was not 204. Many poor preforming students turned into high preforming students because of band. They are called life skills something our students needs to learn. If the board would have supported him the program would have stopped this new school year.

He set up a program with Christian bands members to come in and volunteer. It was then I found out who Strand was. the rumors of converting students to her religion was true. He was rude and hated us often times laughing at us.

I am glad Popp and the group are gone. They attempted to destroy everything East Aurora. Whatever is said and I was not a supporter of Anettes until this year is she and her group of three stopped plenty. Strand had a financial interest and the band was just one part of it.

We are all looking forward to the wicked witch of the west to come teach music. Glotzbach always had a germ a phobia about our kids so that will be interesting.

Reality is said...

Stovall will be successful and the staff will rally around her if she fires Crespo. Stovall has a successful teaching background and actually taught Science. We wonder how she will read Crespo's lack of teaching background to support him. If she makes the mistake of supporting him black or white she will be hated.
She will need to answer to the staff as to the importance of obtaining a teaching degree not an online degree in nothing.

We are happy with hiring a more diverse staff but again black or white they need to address a multitude of problems. She needs to come up with a discipline plan for middle schools, address the berating of teachers by administration. Again, black or white she will be judged quickly. Hoyda was at all tge buildings and knows what the problems are. They need to start fixing them.

Crespo's history is one of immaturity and unprofessionalism for a principal

Ralph Kristin or Ken no authority to respond to you. Your request should of gone to The Superintendent we have that has the right to discipline the employee. As a Board Member they can't discipline an employee of the district that is the job of The Superintendent who is their only employee.

Ralph please read the responsibility's of of a School Board and their one employee the Superintendent.

This finger pointing and name calling is like a cancer in this district and will not stop until everyone trys to get along. There is always some that will not like what an administrator, principle or other people in charge have made decisions on but thier has to be a balance to make this district healthy again.

Some of the problem is this district can't let go of how things used to be done and move forward with new ways. It might not always work the first time so then you try something else/

anonymous1 said...

Mr. Padron is not saying anything new to those who work at the high school. Whether you are a teacher, clerical staff, maintenance staff or even one of his fellow administrators you have been affected by the incompetence of this so called "expert". Under Conrad and Byrd our voices were heard and we were kept informed. We fought through the challenges TOGETHER. We were skeptical when Byrd came in but we were seeing change, good change. Despite what some people think we do want to continue to grow as professionals, however, we need a leader who can energize us, challenge us but more importantly respect us.

Tell it like it is said...

Ralph has every right to bring the facts out about Crespo. Strand and Darby are supporters of Crespo and need to answer for his actions. They seem to be all over pushing their personal agendas so why should Ralph not write them. After-all Darby and Strand have asked for input from the staff. Ralph is just giving input.

The board should hire the best employees possible for our students. We ask would you hire Crespo without a teaching degree.

Free Speech said...

Yes, Ralph can say anything he wants. This is true. But we also have the right to not have to listen to him or read his dribble. Although getting the health insurance premiums issue under control a few years ago and in that year alone saving $4,000,000, Ralph is still honked off that his wife is not getting the illegally under priced insurance premiums to pay. By now, the savings to the district is well over $10,000,000. But again, Ralph is mad that his wife is paying her fair share. So, Ralph just tries to point out things to take the spotlight off of the teachers. Everyone in the district gets it. Ralph is just an old, short, angry man.

Ralph, you very well know the facts here. Teaching degrees are a dime a dozen. At least Florida admits that and allows people with real degrees to teach. Everyone gets A's in their education classes as they are meaningless. So, not having a teaching degree does not mean that one cannot teach. Please stop your whining.

The board does have a district to watch over. Hopefully they will finally be able to act like a normal board and not have to actually run the district as they have been forced to in the past. So, if the board does not have to deal with Ralph and his merry band of nitwits, they will be able to continue to move our district forward at a faster pace.

Anything But Free Speech said...

Matt/ Anything but Free Speech-- that you do not see the importance of a principal having a teaching degree confirms your status as an ignoramus. And since you don't teach either, how the hell would you know how hard it is to earn a teaching degree. They certainly do not hand out A's. You work your ass off for that A or, you get a B or C. Another example of your baseless teacher bashing on a subject you are completely clueless about. Let's hire electricians or carpenters with no formal training and see how that works out. Not only should Crespo have a teaching degree, he should have a great deal more. That's right you want to be principal of school such as East you better come with a distinguished resume. And quit bashing Ralph because of his height. You are vertically challenged yourself.

When is it going to stop. said...

Crespo was out distributing Linda Chapa Lavia materials today. Why is he allowed to run a campaign. OH that's right is that not Alex Arroyos candidate. I guess when you have no teaching credituals that is what you will do to keep your job.

Speak up and report it said...

When was the king campaigning? Date and time? Was he on the clock being paid by our district when he did it? You need to report this to the school board and interims immediately. Putting it on the blog will do nothing. Maybe you can have Ralph FOIA his schedule on the day it happened. Speak up, your fellow Hs colleagues implore you to report it, he's already gotten political on his official district Twitter page this can be added to his file if true. Here's hoping you step up whoever posted above.

Subject: Alex DiMare lack of performance PART 1

Recently EA 131 received a proposal from Platt Electric for $80,000 to complete the installation of electrical outlets for warming trays for school meals.
Apparently Alex DiMare walked Platt Electric around to view the locations and provide a cost.
THIS WORK MUST BE COMPLETED EARLY AUGUST for the food vender to set up and train personnel.

The additional cost was mentioned by former Asst Superintendent, Christi Tyler, at the May 16 school board meeting and again at the June 6 board meeting. Alex DIMare was in attendance both of these meetings.

A review of the Building and Grounds meeting agenda prepared with DiMare for June 8 and July 6 does not list this critical work. Minutes for these meetings are unavailable.

1 Now this $80,000 proposal was prepared without specifications or scope of work just a walk around with Alex DiMare has BECOME AN EMERGENCY !!
2 A project without additional bids as required by ISBE and school policy.
3 A project that requires specifications and a scope of work so EA knows the quality of the installation what is expected of the successful contractor.

Could the B&G maintenance staff completed this project at a significant savings?.
This is now behind schedule and may require contractor overtime to finish on time

The lack of action and poor planning by DiMare raise the following questions:

1 Why was work not discussed when first identified in the food bids?
2 Why was this work not addressed immediately and added to the B&G agenda?
3 Why did DiMare not create specifications and a scope of work?
4 Why did DiMare not have the maintenance staff perform the work?
5 Does DiMare realize that the staff is considerably less than union contractors?
6 Why was the maintenance staff assigned to more menial work during this time?
7 Why were additional contractors not notified of the work?
8 Why would DiMare not get bids from all the Preferred Electrical Contractors?
9 Why would DiMare delay the execution of such a critical project causing additional cost?

As a result of this lack of management I ask:

IF this work could have been started IN HOUSE months ago, what would be the cost compared to the $ 80K now budgeted.
If this work necessitated going out for Public Bid, how much could have been saved?

Isn’t this what a Director is hired for:
To plan and manage staff Not give excuses and blame someone else.

Respectfully
Ralph

East Aurora Summer Band Camp 2016 said...

I might have missed something, so if anyone can set me straight please do:

I have looked in the Beacon, the district's website, the band website, the district and band's Facebook page and I can find NO coverage of our East Aurora Summer Band Camp 2016. Aside from the blog, there was nobody who saw fit to publicize this wonderful 30+ year program unique to our district! More than 200 kids participated and countless families would not have known about it except for word of mouth and/or reading this blog. And where are the pictures and videos of this event?? The only coverage I've been able to find was a video taken by Mrs. Kaisershot (her husband retired more than a year ago so what's in it for her? Thanks, Mrs. K!) No pictures OR videos in the newspaper or district publications. Not even a passing mention of this high-profile positive experience that impacts hundreds in our community.

Again, if I missed seeing the coverage, I hope someone can show me where it was. If I'm correct that nobody besides a blog and the wife of a retired teacher put anything up then SHAME SHAME SHAME.

Forward thinking said...

Hanley spent time touring Mayor Weisner of Aurora around and posted a video of him of Facebook but no coverage of our students. I am glad he is gone. He was a complete zero. Let's hope the new public relations person is not a polical spin machine for the superintendents and he/she actually works with alumni to bring opportunities to East Aurora and cover student successes.

Band camp alum said...

To be fair to Mr. Hanley he resigned the end of June so shouldn't have been expected to cover the July 4th parade. But the Beacon and Tribune always seem to put the negative things about us front and center. There were lots of pictures of various groups, bands, etc. in the papers but nothing about our band camp. As others have mentioned we DESERVE to have coverage when a big group of our kids does something worthwhile and positive. It was bad enough to have to find out about band camp on a blog or from other parents, now the administration drops the ball again by failing to post any pictures or videos.

Clayton always went to the camp and covered pictures. Hanley never covered the kids only POPP. I am also glad he is gone.

1 Victor Devaldivielso (EHS Resource Officer) "No personal Interest in the school"

I will FOIA all emails from Victor to Crespo & Board of Education the past year
This should prove "No personal Interest" is questionable

2 Ref: following email
From: Matthew Hanley
Sent: Tuesday, August 25, 2015 10:28 PM
To: R Padron
Subject: High school request

Mr. Padron:

The high school received a message from you, requesting a tour of parts of the building.

I am answering on behalf of Mr. Crespo. This is the first opportunity I have had to reply to your message: students started classes today and the needs of our students, our families, our staff and our residents take priority.

In regards to your request, for student safety and building security, we do not allow people to tour the high school and take photos. In the future, if you have questions about the District, please direct them to my office.
Matt Hanley

QUESTIONS/COMMENTS

1 WHY DID Anthony Crespo NOT FOLLOW PROTOCOL AND LET ADMINISTRATION DETERMINE IF THIS WARRANTED A POLICE REPORT COMPLAINT.
Again this will warrant to FOIA all emails from Crespo to Admin regarding this issue

2 Read the attached documents related to the email “Enough of Anthony Crespo”
Determine yourself if this was an unprofessional and ridiculous reaction by Crespo.

As I weigh my options, there will be multiple FOIA’s submitted which I really did not want to burden EA with, however this needs to be brought to another level and be investigated thoroughly for action to be taken.

Respectfully

Ralph

Oh John, can you just resign.....The Bern has fizzled, you will never be mayor or hold any political office, heck you won't even get re-elected to the school board after all your lies and empty promises to your constituents. Now, the self proclaimed "union man", is defending administrators who have bullied, harassed and targeted his alleged "union brothers and sisters" to the interim superintendents. John, you have been exposed for the fraud everyone knows you are, and your ex-wife has told us you are. Just go away. You can't be pro-union and call us brother and sister, then go fight to keep our oppresors(like King Crespo) in place so they can continue to bully, harass and target us. John you are a joke. You really think you can play all sides of a situation and not be exposed for the fraud you are?

Crespo taking up Laesch's playbook said...

Apparently the King is out casting calls to Chapa La Via, AND Richard Irvin's offices. He is taking a play from Johnny boys playbook and playing all sides of the mayoral race. I do not believe I have ever heard of a principal of a high school reaching out to mayoral campaigns to have sit downs and discuss politics. How is this guy still employed by the district? Mcdonald and Hoyda need to step up to the plate already. This is getting worse by the day. We have an unqualified, incompetent principal now calling campaign offices, and posting on twitter political messages. When will he ever be held accountable?

Ralph, you should FOIA these calls/meetings and see if they are on the district dime because it is highly illegal for a district employee to be political on the district dime.

This article was about Clayton Muhammad's adopted son, Jared Marchiando. He was valedictorian at East High when my younger brother graduated in 2006. My brother stayed in contact with Jared and knows his wife Brittney. Last year at their wedding my brother said there was absolutely no mention of Clayton, and Clayton didn't even attend. Back in 2006 there were several articles in the papers about how wonderful it was that Clayton had adopted and mentored those two boys. Jared even spoke at a banquet at Dieterich saying how lucky he was to have Clayton as his father. At the time he called himself Jared Marchiando-Muhammad. Now it looks like they have no connection whatsoever. So much for the wonderful father figure Clayton Muhammad.

Central office news said...

The Hanley criticisms were never fair. He never trashed the computers like Clayton. He gave us all his passwords and did keep the Facebook account for himself The rumors about his resignation may be true. When Jared was young what was ok may have been fine but as Jared became older maybe not. Staff at the SSC were disappointed how he acted before leaving. We all know how shady Roberts was and there are rumors he looked the other way and after the computer trashing it added truth to the story.

Not as it appears said...

Cordell is out of Clayton's life as well. It shows the pied piper was not the person everyone made him out to be.

Comments have me thinking said...

One should ask why Ms Strands son called Clayton a father. My son was in band two years ago with Eric and had a friendship with him. Eric recently told friends Clayton buys cloths for him. Other comments now have me questioning his hero worship with youth.

Subject: REVIEW OF SCIENCE LABORATORY STATION CONSTRUCTION FOR NEW SCHOOL YEAR 2016 – 2017

* At a Curriculum Meeting on February 7, 2016 a new mandatory science program is planned for the beginning of the 2016 school year. Resources and materials are kit based.
* At the March meeting the progress status was reviewed, indicating that NGSS (Next Generations Science Standards) was on track fall. In April Dr. Johnson will discuss further.
* At the April 4th Curriculum meeting the budget for program implementation was handed out. This included the construction of the labs for the 3 middle schools. It was indicated that this should be on the B&G agenda since Finance and B&G are already aware of the program. Dr. Carla Johnson indicated that they were already waiting on quotes for the program implementation, including construction.

* The April 18th Regular School Board Meeting stated the science curriculum was presented for board approval.
The Board approved science equipment, materials and laboratory construction at the cost of $5,529,850 for the program to begin at school opening in August 2016.

This raises more questions about DiMare’s lack of management skills, construction abilities and any understanding of administration in a school district.

1 Why was this important Program not put on the B&G Agenda in April, May, June, July
2 Why did DiMare state the he was waiting on a grant to perform the work?
3 Did DiMare not hear the board approve the funding for the project at the board meeting he attended?
DOES ALEX DI MARE UNERSTAND
1 Drawings and specification need to be created for this work?
2 This work needs to be publicly bid?
3 The ROE needs to review the construction documents?
4 This expenditure requires board approval of successful bidder?
5 How complex laboratory work can be including plumbing, electrical, gas, and other special services?
*** Laboratory millwork takes 8-12 weeks for fabrication from approval of shop drawings?

1 How does DiMare think these projects get accomplished?
2 Will DiMare continue to blame other people for delays?

WHY ARE PROJECTS AT THAT ARE ALEX DIMARE’S RESPONSIBILITY CONSTANTLY DELAYED RESULTING IN UNNECESSARY TIME & HIGHER COSTS?

NO EXCUSE FOR THIS PROJECT NOT GETTING DONE

So King Crespo has turned down more than 10 quality teaching candidates given to him by the DC's because he feels...well, he never tells them what he feels. 8 of them were from Special Education. How about trusting these professionals with Illinois Teaching Licenses who spend countless hours screening and interviewing to arrive at these decisions? Or better yet, make yourself a part of or totally take them over and quit wasting people's time. Crespo apparently just has a 6th sense for these things. To be honest, it's probably his way of feeling like the boss, exerting his power. After all he's the Principal, he'll show you his business card if you ask him. It's time for his narcissism and ego to go!

Anonymous 2 said...

Maybe he should leave it to professionals and maybe you should as well. Stay in your lane and do what you do best. You are a manager or leader so get in line, mind your business or get out of the way. Our governor has told educators to operate without funds for umteen months. But the legislators get the blame. So if the king is a screw up teachers should get the blame like the legislators

Guess you really do need something other than a teaching degree to teach as you cannot comprehend even simple facts. Probably didn't read the Beacon this week either as it had a great article on why public unions are a sham.

And yes, teachers are a major part of the blame for the horrible results in public schools. Let us get school vouchers in Illinois, please!!!!

Boy Anonymous 2 your garbled post has nothing to do with teachers but yet and still some of you like Matt Hanley will always find a way to badmouth them. The above scenario has nothing to do with teachers, numbskull, nor does the funding. It is about a principal so mad with power that he does not care how badly he will mess up everything for the special ed department next year. How about finding a division chair for sped now that Jeremy Bell jumped ship ?

Fed up at EA said...

Crespo wants to screw up the district. He knows the qualified superintendents will not keep him. It is his last power grab. They will not let him pick the Deans or replacement DC. They have the new Director who is actually qualified sit in on interviews. It is too bad Crespo needs a babysitter and the district has to waste so many resources, money and time fixing Popps follies.

Attitude said...

to Fed up at EA

Then let the new supers do their jobs. Quite whining over something you cannot control. If Crespo is as bad as a couple people are saying, then the "qualified" superintendents will let him go.

Focus on your job and how you can improve, then assist everyone in doing their jobs better. Do that and things will get better. Try it, you'll see.

As the poor student performance continues in the District, why doesn't the district focus on small classroom for Primary (K-2) grades? Teachers would then be able to spend more time with each student. Having 25-30 students in a classroom is too much. How does the district expect to see growth? Who's in charge of how many students are placed in each classroom? Does the district have someone to do audits?

King Crespo the hypocrite!

At his end of year address to the staff, the King decreed that "we must stop working in isolation!" However, he created the isolation when he chose to tell the Deans that they weren't administrators and locked Kosak and Renner out of his secret "Admin" meetings with Jolley and Keene. Not to mention the DC's, who he doesn't value for anything. Then he banished a Dean to the EAEC twice a week so he could bring Orstead under his wing and create a dangerous backstabbing alliance. She was undermining other AP's and spying on teachers, Deans, and DC's. She sat in room 149 and nobody knows what she was doing. That sounds like isolation to me.

The King also would pull DC's and Deans in to his office and yell at them for using their cell phones during staff meetings. However King Hypocrite would constantly be on his phone during other meetings. When Heather Forbes gave her presentation, he couldn't keep his attention off the phone and he was in the third row!

During the end of year admin meeting with district office, he sat at the end of the table on his phone the entire time. Why is his behavior allowed but yet he calls out at others for doing the same. Power, arrogance and narcissism at its best.

King Crespo the Hypocrite, it's time for your reign of tyranny to end!

INSIDER @ 131

How can Retired Police Officer Alex DiMare misrepresent (lie) about his experience on his application for Director at B&G SD131. Watching his work here it is obvious he has no construction experience, no management credentials, and no integrity – at all.

SD187 application he says his previous employer (1980-2011) is Hammer and Nails a safety inspection business; his title is Safety Manager, he inspects construction sites and his salary is $30,000 per year. The business is located at his current residence.

SD131 application he says his previous employer (1980-2010) is Wilton Industries a construction company; his title is Project manager, he schedules manpower, subcontractors along with budgeting, estimating and his salary is $70,000. The business is located at his sister’s residence in Wheaton.

WHICH IS IT?

Does anyone see the problem? Violating the truth and honesty a police officer is supposed to have he TOTALLY CHANGES AND MISREPRESENT (LIES) ABOUT HIS EXPERIENCE.

SO ALEX DIMARE COLLECTS $120,000 PER YEAR FOR MISREPRESENTING (LYING) HIMSELF. AND HE DOESN’T KNOW HOW TO BID OR CONSTRUCT. EVERY TIME HE SPEAKS HE IS MISREPRESENTING.

AND THE PEOPLE THAT HIRED HIM DON’T READ AND BELIEVED HIM. HE VIOLATES SD 131 TIME FOR DIMARE TO JOIN THE OTHERS AND GO AWAY.

Re:Unreal said...

To Unreal:

Matt that you don't see any problem with what Crespo is doing is why you are no longer working at d131. I have heard stories from Deans all year that he would scream on Deans, on Assistant Principals, on DC's, and especially on secretaries. He IS THE SERIAL BULLY. This is all documented as he does his belittling on the walkie talkies where everyone can hear. This guy is the worst admin I have ever seen in the last 20 years. Who the hell is he to lock out half his assistant principals? What a low class loser.

Point of view said...

Hmmmm.

I have heard stories that the Deans, assistant Principals, Department Chairs(or sofas) sat around all day and did nothing and that is what made Crespo scream. They would be on the internet orderings from amazon all day and chatting on the phone with their families. On occasion they would pull teachers out of class to BS about the upcoming weekend orgies. So, is Crespo being a bully by berating bad behavior???

Just asking.....

Point of view =crespo or his wife said...

So deans have to write thousands of tardies all week long for crespos inept tardy joke of a policy and you think they have time to surf the net all day. You are a joke. Verify your story with names and instances or stop hiding behind tough talk backing Crespos ignorant and incompetent self. And how bout talking to people and having a conversation instead of writing people up with zero information or accuracy and threatening them with yelling screaming and intimidation. Napoleon I mean crespo needs to learn how to be a leader. Having the title of leader means little when nobody follows you or trusts you. It's not a building problem it's a crespo problem. He blames very one else for his problems and refuses to listen in meetings with superiors. He tries to take his way out of everything. If this were the old days he would be a snake oil salesman promising the world to our "learners" and "experts" but having nothing of substance when asked deeper questions.

Crespo is worthless said...

King Crespo has spoken. It is poorly written so it proves his lack of education.

Once you clean house it should be forever said...

While BLM nationally your school district lost Clarence King. Clarence was lost in the Popp system. He was carried on the attendance reports because Crespo/Truckenbrod/Popp forged dropout reports. Three years ago Clarence was doing well in another program not run by the district who deals well with students with his social/emotional problems. Eight other students have also been lost to long term prison sentences or death that took part in the same program. Clarence was gang raped 11 and died of a gun to his head.

The blog can continue to post good or bad but one thing is for certain Michael Popp did not understand East Aurora. He and his band of nitwits should have never been hired. They lacked the experience and the board should write a check to make Crespo go away. They should demote Orstead back to a dean and Ms Stovall should run the HS and get it back on track like she did in Bolingbrook. My colleagues in Bolingbrook tell me her record speak for itself in working with a high risk population.

Crespo then lied and claimed he was never aware of it. He is now telling us he did not understand but we should come to him first. Really? you don't understand English.

We guess the only accomplishment is that he did not tell us he has the support to fire us. Sounds like the King does not have the support any longer to fire us.

Re: king said...

Re- The king

The king won't be so powerful if someone gets really sick or goes to the emergency room and he was informed and did nothing. This could lead to a huge lawsuit against the district. This shows he truly has no leadership qualities. He is good with the name calling and intimidation, however. This will also land him in hot water. Next year promises to be a real hoot. Teachers are leaving in droves as are deans because nothing is worth this kind of inhumane treatment.

The name "Kaisershot" stands out (in this case, it's Mr. K's wife Jamie). Nice publicity for a family that has been part of our community for more than 30 years and continues to make a positive difference. I remember eleven years ago how a handful of administrators and school board members were hoping the Kaisershots would move elsewhere, but because of tenure Kevin Kaisershot was guaranteed a job in the district until he retired. Happily for our community the Kaisershots stayed.

I hope that seeing that positive coverage in the Tribune was a thorn in the side of certain people who chose to put their support of a serial bully's agenda ahead of what the parents wanted. It may have been 11 years ago, but that decision is truly "the gift that keeps on giving"!

To anonymous 1. Your link gave good advice for all types of harassment. Documentation from as early on as possible shows history of the problem. Most of us hope it will stop sooner rather than later and don't think to make note of things. But it is important, especially if it requires filing suit. It is good to have dates, times and the action or comments that were made against the victim.
An atmosphere of this type in any work environment should not be tolerated, and affects everyone involved. where children are involved, this should be dealt with sooner.

This is how that went....Within the first 48 hours everyone is saying on the blog that everyone sucks. So I will throw others under the bus. I will also ask Ralph and his merry band of nitwits to look into others as a way of throwing the spotlight off me."

It has been completely downplayed but Beatriz has been the head of the technology department the past couple of years. The technology department oversees Infinite Visions which is the program running grades for the district. We all know how well that has been going.

We are a large district with many of the issues of an urban district. We desperately need a superintendent that is very competent and capable of doing the job. The only qualification should not be kissing Annette's rear end.

News Release

Renaming of Child Service Center
The 2016-2017 school year will focus on a theme of celebration and recognition of our students, past and present. To that end, we are pleased to announce the renaming of the Child Service Center to the Aries ‘Jaybird’ Gonzalez Child Service Center.

The Center’s prime focus is to serve children including, providing a preschool facility, housing the special education administration as well as the district’s centralized registration facility. It is the district’s hope that Jaybird’s life and his of love of education will inspire all students to reach their graduation goals.

Jaybird was diagnosed with leukemia when he was 21 months old. Following a stem-cell transplant, he developed “graft-versus-host disease” , his immune cells were attacking his own body. Over the years, Aries was in and out of wheelchairs. He needed breathing tubes and his skin became discolored.

His life may have been fragile, but his spirit was strong. As a 5-year-old kindergartner, Jaybird was worried his thick glasses and skin pigmentation might make him a target for teasing by other kids. Instead, his kind and gentle personality made him beloved and never forgotten by his classmates that rallied around him.

As his treatments increased, Jaybird remained determined to graduate from kindergarten. When his mother, Nicole Gonzalez, would wake him up after a long day of treatments, she’d ask him if he wanted to go to school and he would reply “I don’t want to be late!”. She often thought that because he was tired and weakened from the side effects of the treatments that he might just want to stay home and rest.

The last day of his life was spent at his kindergarten graduation, surrounded by his friends, proudly wearing his bright blue cap and gown. While Aries “Jaybird” Gonzalez lived just seven years, his passion for education lives in our hearts and has inspired people well beyond his death in 2012.

The Aries ‘Jaybird’ Gonzalez Child Service Center will be a tribute to educational dedication and an inspiration to other students to cherish and make the most of their educational opportunities and strive for their own graduation.

From: Ralph Padron
Subject: Shameful Comments at Aug 1 Board Meeting
Re: Naming of Child Service Center to Aries “Jaybird” Gonzalez Child Service Center

Ken:

What was to be a proud and celebratory moment as EA Dist 131 Board of Education was voting to name the Child Service Center for a 7yr old child who died of Leukemia Your comments prior to the vote were totally inappropriate, offensive, and shameful to the Gonzalez Family, EA District, Community and everyone in attendance.

You stated that you felt “Policy was not followed in making this change.”
All who were present were stunned that you would bring this up at this time !!!
You deflated the joy and happiness in the hearts of the family and those in attendance.

Fortunately you were publicly rebuked by Board Members
Annette Johnson
Richard Leonard
Kimberly Hatchett
Alex Arroyo

Mr Alex Arroyo publicly apologized to the Gonzalez family for having to witness this shameful discussion.

THANK YOU MR ARROYO FOR THIS CLASSY GESTURE !!!!!!!!!

The vote was unanimous for the name change.

It must be noted that Jaybird’s mother gave a very moving testimony on the importance of Graduation and education her son was receiving. Family members and his teacher were at her side as she spoke and told the story of this 7 yr old child who will always be an inspiration to all. A very emotional and moving story was followed by a lengthy standing ovation.

Ken: Although you voted YES,
the damage was done ,
the moment was lost
the story will be remembered by your insensitivity to a Grieving yet Proud Family.

I find it HYPROCRITCAL that you refuse to comment on those POLICY VIOLATIONS I have and continue to bring out within EA 131 yet speak on a Policy you felt was not followed .

SHAME ON YOU KENNETH DARBY FOR YOUR DISRESPECTFUL & UNFORGIVABLE ACT

CSC news said...

If Ken voted yes why is he still attacking the child. Ken had no problem allowing the board from hell to deny the communities request when they named the Kindergarden. We at the CSC know his motions and actions are run by Diane Thomas who received special favors from Popp. Popp made Diane a full time employee why we do t know. She always walks around with nothing to do complaining about others. Now she has more time on her hands. Two weeks ago she started on Jaybird with anyone that would listen. She spends time typing and researching questions for Ken on district time. Somebody should find out what is her job secretary or board member. Diane is toxic and is behind this.

Please go away and never come back. You cannot even leave a grieving family alone without interjecting "your" slight of a board member not responding to you. You are one vile piece of s*it. All this "look at me" crap has got to stop.

Ralph, please seek help for your mental illness. Your obsession with the district because you can't extract the improper low health insurance premiums anymore is beyond explanation.

You could not even accept the findings of the report from the experts that found no malice within the district. (You even waited until after the teacher agreement to express your demented opinion.). What a sorry excuse for a human being.

There have to be places out there that can help with your short person syndrome.

To: Good meeting

Maybe it was a good meeting because you were being helpful and supportive to the administration. Had you had that attitude of service in years past maybe the results would have been different.

Now, you are scared to death because you know for sure that you will actually be fired for incompetence and improper behavior, the supportive attitude comes out. Better late than never, I guess.

Hopefully you have learned your lesson that a teacher really should be more than an empty shell of a person. And hopefully you have learned how to actually input grades correctly. What a bunch of simpletons. You could always complain about others but could not even do your jobs correctly.

To Red said...

It's funny because you talk all high and mighty as to how other should act, yet you are judgmental and negative in regards to teachers. Do as I say and not as I do, eh, Red? What is it you do exactly? Are you an old timer, retired with nothing better to do? Kudos for figuring out this internet thing. You are apart of the problem you are allegedly trying to fix with your magic wand of teachers just need to act right. Can you use that wand on the students and families too? Can you use that magic wand on yourself? You are not part of the solution, you are a part of the problem. Your boys are gone, deal with it. If a majority of teachers and staff, along with the school board believed the administrators are bad, could it be that they were actually bad? If it walks like a duck, quacks like a duck and looks like a duck, maybe it's a duck. Crazy concept I know. Maybe Red is Greg Glotzbach, who likes to attend meetings in a district he does not live in, nor no longer has any ties to, yet comments on here, and attends meetings "showing us" his "magical power of standing in the back of the room and meanly staring at everyone. Did your suga mama losing her job impact your lifestyle in Yorkville? Or is this Matt, who was paid 6 figures for nothing, good work if you can get it. As he found out, ours is the only district who wastes money on non-educational items such as his salary. It's time to move on. What's done is done. Please let me know what you do Red, other than post incompetence and your high and mighty rhetoric, so we can, in turn, tell you how to act at your job, or in your house, without any proof or logical thinking. I bet you were a manager somewhere and ruled with an iron fist and made employees bow down to you in your past work, so that is what you expect all work places should be. Get a life already. You are no better than Ralph with your rhetoric and constant ripping of teachers and staff. Ralph has an axe to grind for his wife, you have an axe to grind on teachers and staff, no difference. Maybe your job is internet troll and you no longer need viagra as long as you have this blog to get you excited and tingly down there. You are the simpleton. You are the one complaining about others - teachers - but aren't willing to step into the arena and teach yourself. Glass houses!

Darby was wrong to talk policy in open session but the board led by Johnson fought back when the board agreed to speak with one voice She stated Popp was attempting to silence board members. Well once again the chicken comes home to roost.
The board from hell voted 6-1 to name the kindergarten center after Ms Benavides according to the criteria given for naming a building. Johnson voted against it. 3 of her cronies who always backed her voted their will. ( Leonard, Gonzalez, Turza)The resource center is named after Aries. Will that remain the same or renamed since she finally got her wish. BTW the CSC is more appropriate.

Old timers said...

Johnson was not the board president Ray Hull was. Benevides was friends with Gonzalez and Popp and Hull threw her thank you kisses for voting for the superintendent from Hell. Benevides gave Gonzalez her job back in the 90's. Because Gonzalez was incompetent and should have never been made an administrator we guess Gonzalez paid her back. Benevides was an arrogant jerk and always put herself ahead of the children.

As for Johnson good for her that she made this happen but it should have been the Kinder Center. We have better administration than Benevides. SHame on her and the board from hell.

To Red Again said...

Did your parents tell you to be complacent and ho hum and take it in the rear even when a boss is wrong? Or did they teach you to speak up for yourself and value your work and own person? Just as in any company, public or private, there are bad apples or bad employees. But again, there are not nearly as many as you, or Popp and company tried to say there was or "believe" in your heart there are. Wanting to be respecting, treated fairly, advocating for resources for our students and selves does not make one a bad teacher or employee. It is our right to do so. If you want to ride the wave or sit on the fence and judge, that's fine. But remember the "complaining" and/or "whining" got one of the fairest contracts approved ever in the district. Being harassed, bullied, intimidated and lead by inferior and incompetent administration is a problem. Why don't you wait and see how people react to the new interim superintendents. I, myself went to them with an issue and it was immediately corrected, no questions asked. The same could not be said for the previous administration. They are not out to get you, there is no witch hunt, they are not political. They are true administrators willingly to work together cooperatively in an open and safe environment. The same could not be said about the previous administration. The high school is run by an incompetent, under qualified principal who values signage more than copy paper. He has made numerous employees cry, stress out, and feel insignificant in his aftermath for simply voicing their opinions or concerns. He is not qualified to teach in the state of Illinois, but somehow is a principal. He NEVER taught at the high school level, but some how runs a high school. Maybe you are at a building that you deem well run, congratulations. We all wish we could say the same about our buildings, but that is not the case. There should be no us vs them mentality, its not teachers vs admin, we're all in this together to educate the children as best as we can. The toxic environment was created by Popp, his administrators and the people he hired. He was relieved of duties as principal at Neuqua for his behavior, yet was deemed fit for superintendent here. Truckenbrod was relieved of duties at his middle school as principal, yet he, a music teacher, was overseeing curriculum and instruction at the high school. Joan Glotzbach's reign of terror is over, she had a list, kept files on people she didn't like, and illegally recorded meetings that magically began to appear when she was let go. This is a good thing. I have yet to see people complain or whine as you hint at, at the new regime. It has been a pleasant surprise. The new regime cares, and actually wants us to do well. That HAS ABSOLUTELY NOTHING TO DO WITH YOUR "BE POSITIVE" OR BE OPEN MENTATLITY. It has to do with how the new admin treat people. You definitely have to be an elementary teacher with your talk about behavior and attitude. This is truly a new day in EA. I challenge you to take your own medicine and stop being so negative about colleagues you cannot control and focus on you, be receptive, be open and challenge yourself to reach out to those you deem should be fired or retire and help bring them with you since you deem yourself an excellent teacher and not waiting around for an undeserved retirement. Step up and join the union as a rep or office member and make things better. Complaining from the sidelines and posting on here accomplishes nothing and makes you seem like a bitter person. Vent to your spouse and friends, not here. Change starts with you, not ranting on here where the alleged "bad" teachers won't ever see.

Mr Darby showed bad judgement it seems it is always about himself. I worked with him band and he only wants recognition but adds nothing.

The cronies hired Popp (Leonard, Gonzalez and Turza) so Johnson did not get her way. They joined Hull, Strand and Preyea. The chickens did come home to roost. One has to wonder if the fix was in then. It is my understanding they could have avoided all the expense and discord by hiring Dr Hoyda. Many of us have a entire new opinion of Johnson. Glad for the naming not glad that the board from hell did not take their one job serious and hire a good superintendent.

Old timer too said...

Old timer 1, get your facts together or quit listening to Johnson . Everyone else including you all are stupid, She is always right , everyone else is wrong. All boards prior to her presidency did nothing(do nothing board; remember them) board from hell. One year under Hull as president was hell. She acted like a little girl in puberty at every meeting until she became president again with a new ship of fools. This old timer rarely missed a meeting and had inside board info. Johnson was president when Popp was hired( fact) he was a unanimous pick. If you know what unanimous means it was 7-0 , she voted for him too. Johnson voted for every one of Popps appointees except Crespo. Hoyda was never a candidate for the job(fact). Gonzalez and Turza told Johnson in November at the school board conference in Chicago that they would no longer support her for president in 2014. They grew tired of her antics, the constant lawsuits, embarrassing articles and the constant turnover. Hull was not their choice . The plan was to elect Gonzalez for her last year and Johnson would remain on as finance chairman. All was well until the day Johnson barged into a meeting between Leonard and dr Roberts. Leonard was defending Feltes because he was in hot water with Johnson. Feltes had stop returning her calls because heard she was out as president . She cursed Leonard out that day . According to Leonard she called him a short scrawny CS and said she hoped he would die from the prostate cancer her was suffering from . Ask Leonard to varify the story, he changed his vote for a reason. Leonard decided to flip his vote to Hull who got in at the last minute. Leonard flipped back a year later because he blamed hull and Popp for Feltes monumental failures. Leonard was in love with Popp as well until Marty was released.

To: John Laesch
From: Ralph Padron
Subject: Absence from numerous Board Meetings.

John

East Aurora D131 has just and still is undergoing their biggest transitions in years thus the Board of Ed has to be held accountable that those newly appointed Interim Superintendents get their total support and input in getting stability and quality education for the East Aurora students. Construction, numerous administrative changes/reorganization, and finances are just a few of the issues being dealt with on daily basis.

With the exodus of the
Superintendent
3 Assistant Superintendents
2 Directors
Other administrative posts

East Aurora was a very vulnerable School Dist to say the least.

The interim Superintendents inherited
1 Disastrous Curriculum
2 Major Construction Projects
3 Replacement of multiple Administrative Positions
4 High School Principal Anthony Crespo totally out of control
5 Major Financial Shortages
That is just a glimpse of numerous problems being addressed.

I commend those who remain and did not abandon EA !!!!
They “Stepped Up” and did what was necessary to keep EA going forward.
Dr Hoyda & Dr McDonald also are to be commended with their professionalism and involvement.

John you have missed the last several Board Meetings and many others. On several occasions special arrangements made for a conference call for you to participate in meetings.

At the August 1 2016 Board meeting, you were seen in McDonalds during the Board meeting
If that is true, how can you justify that?

I have brought to your attention many a violation requiring a response in addressing and correcting these issues to no avail.
Although I have many major issues with Kirsten Strand and Ken Darby, I commend their consistence attendance at Board Meetings. This cannot be said about yourself.

I ask you consider resigning as a Board Member

Respectfully
Ralph

You did not attend the meeting when Mr Darby attacked the family. If he had questions it seemed like he had many months to go ask them. It showed his ignorance to everyone in attendance. Mr Padron is correct in his view of the situation.

I will also comment on Mr Laesch in that I know him from Facebook. We share a love for the Green Party. He needs to resign. His interest is in national politics not the school board. None of the other board members have required that someone call in. They all serve on committees and they do not miss meetings. In my Facebook contact he never mentions the students. He only purpose of being on the board in my opinion is to us the title school board member to promote his speaking on national non related topics.
The Beacon continues to interview him on national issues but never asks Why are you missing meetings.

Please John just resign.

As a former administrator the record regarding the hiring of Dr Popp should be set straight.

The administrative team was directed by Turza to come in on a day we did not have school due to Inclement whether(via email). We could meet the two finalist and score them. Many of us who no longer work at East came in risking bad roads. Only one person wanted Popp and that was Marty Feltes. Glotzbach even commented he will never understand our district. The entire group did not think either one was a good fit but we could work with Rodriquez more than Popp.
Many of us shared our concerns with board members. Johnson attempted to stop the board from hiring Popp or Rodriquez. She did say whatever happened she would vote for him in public but we should reach out to other members because they just wanted to pick someone and be done. We did reach out not only on paper with a survey for the board to read but in person at meeting. Johnson and Strand supported slowing things down and the others did not. Hoyda's name was mentioned by staff to run the district.

Leonard should take the largest blame with Popp. He put his friendship with Feltes ahead of his responsibility as a school board member. It could never be proved but Roberts had written up Feltes and was in the process of terminating him. Johnson was in support of this and that is why Feltes and Leonard argued with her. Everyone felt Feltes, Hull and Leonard had a back room deal. Popp looked the other way until he could no longer. Popp could have lost his own job because of Feltes. Ultimately, Popp saved himself and fired Feltes.

Imagine if the board could have listened. All of this could have been avoided. Let's hope they follow a process to involve everyone. East has great employees and with the proper leadership they succeed. That is why the district is turning around rapidly. They have experienced leadership

Desperation hire said...

I for one was NOT surprised that Popp didn't work out, because he was a desperation hire. Rodriguez backed out (maybe because his wife didn't want to live in Aurora or send their kids to D131 schools), so the board was pressured to rush someone in at the last minute. Popp had two strikes against him before his first day on the job.

EA OK said...

Rodriquez could not pass the basic skills test and he was not certified to work in Illinois. Crespo moved to Illinois before that was a requirement. That shows why he was not qualified nor does another school district hire him. At Proviso he was a activities AP not in a leadership position.

The post shows if you don't spend time you will pay the crime. The crime was the least qualified group of educators that every ran a school district.

Here is hope said...

EA a better today because they hired two people who have experience. They conduct themselves professionally. This summer all of the positions had group interviews. The only one who could not follow the groups wishes was Crespo. It speaks to the King and court attitude we have suffered with all last school year. Popp felt we are failures because we work at 131. I would like to see him or his band of nitwits teach in our schools.

Here's the direct link to the article referred to above:

https://foodpoisoningbulletin.com/2016/fda-warning-letter-to-preferred-meal-systems-of-illinois/

It looks as though Preferred Meal Systems is a very poor choice for our students. The lunch ladies who all know our children and community are being fired and now we find out that due to poor administration, our children are going to be at high risk of being poisoned. The cheapest quote is often NOT the best choice, especially with food. Did anybody actually check out this company before they were hired? As I recall, this was one of the last duties Christie Tyler performed before high tailing it out of the district. Of course, the board approved it, however, it was done very oddly. At one board meeting Sodexho had the contract. At the next board meeting, we were told that Sodexho couldn't handle the whole job and Preferred Meals was brought in. There was no mention of competitive bids or any other quotes. It all looked like back room dealing at the time. As I recall from years past, the Illinois State Board of Education has to approve food vendors before a district can use them. Was this approval received and has the state been informed that this company is under investigation?

Welcome to EA!!!!!

Tasted the food said...

Pull up Sodexos record they have the same problems. Last year kids got fed moldy bread and sour milk. I has happy they allowed us to sample their food. The food was served very hot and w tasty. Parents could come ask questions. I you are so concerned why did you not do that or do you work for Sodexo.

Only in EA said...

To: Tasted the food

You make all sorts of wild claims but show me the FDA investigation into Sodexho. Anyone can point a finger on an anonymous blog but show me the scientific proof. If you can, I will be the first one to support you and ask for A different food company.

The fact is Preferred Meals has shown themselves to be dangerous and even after the FDA pointed out the issues, they continued with unsafe food practices, placing everyone at risk of food poisoning.

When is this district going to wake up? Before or after children die?

Facts not fiction said...

The State Board still approves food vendors and Sodexo backed out of preparing the meals because it was not possible to cook for the entire district at Simmons. We have two years of construction that will benefit everyone. Do you want the construction company to hit a gas line have blow up the school. If they did not follow proper sanitation the State would not give them a license. They serve 300,000 plus students daily in Chicagoland. They also have a airline division and own other companies in Newyork California and Florida. Please all the ladies were offered jobs and there is a job fair at Benevides today.

Get your facts before jumping to conclusions

EA Ok said...

The food service was put out to bid they finished second and Sodexo acted unprofessionally by not saying the could produce all the meals. The moldy bread was served at Simmons and Gates and Brady had sour milk and Chiclate milk last year. BIds are approved by ISBE

The school is under construction we all will have to suffer a bit it's better that hitting gas lines or water lines.

Glad to see Crespo gone he was giving me an upset stomach! 😄😄😄

Good luck on all your years. Stay positive, and as an EAHS employee, I can say the I look forward to having a great new principal. No longer someone LITERALLY peeking on anyone he didn't like, from 30 year teachers to 1st year employees, & trying to find ANY reason to abuse his powers. People didn't even know what to do anymore and were just worried about keeping their jobs instead of being relaxed and being able to do their jobs. I suspect this year we can DO our jobs instead of worrrying about baseless vendettas. NOBODY in that building outside of the resource officer wanted the former principal there. And they both wrote each other ego letters to each others superiors...that was a laugh. But here's to 16-17, should be SO much better!

The inspection process they had to follow was that of a USDA Plant. Sodexo is only inspected by the Kane County not quite the same inspection. Would you rather have a construction accident. Swab the Sodexo floors you will get worse. The State or FDA would not allow them in business. Please
